I would love FMV endings cause I missed them when I played MK4 and then got picture endings in MK:DA and above but, I agree with Predator on this one as well id love content too and if they cant include both FMV and content into their schedule of making the game and all id prefer content and put up with picture endings again

You'd like to think WB might have the internal resources to produce more than one FMV per game, even if it still isn't something Netherealm Studios is doing themselves.

FMV endings would be exceptionally nice, but only MK4 has really done them.

So long as the endings are GOOD, I'm fine with it (so no MK: Armageddon lameness with katas for the "ending".)

FMVs, This is the age of Blu Ray. No excuse on Ps3

Joe-Von-Zombie, it's the age for EVERYONE, not just PS3, but also 360 (as we're now in 2010, not the early '90's). Other than that, I agree with you & everyone else.

I too, would also like FMV's. The character portraits &/or paintings with text, etc., is incredibly old & outdated.

how about both? kind of what tekken 4 had....where there were paintings at first to give more details about what happened with the character and then a final FMV mostly for the fun impact of the story!

i dont want to insult the most people but you sound like noobs.

you just say put in fmv sequences. those kost probably more then all sounds, musictracks and animations together made for a fighting game.

And we have 2010. The graphics in kutscenes look similar or better as fmv movies on previous konsole generations standart fmv movies.

and as said.

Ed Boon mentioned this game will have the biggest story a fighting game ever had.

Think about it for a minute.

What have we seen in the Trailer

Stages from MK 1-3. Kharakters from MK 1-3

Like i predicted in 2009 already when i saw these voiceover job hirings about a sorcerrer which starts as an old man who helds the MK tournament but gets younger later during the story its going to be a game which kombines MK 1-3

And trust me. The story mode will be long..but players will be forced to choose certain Kharacters. Or just dont even have a choice which Kharakter they choose.

The story mode will be long..it will be told with a lot kutscenes.

It will probably start with a fmv scene which tells the history of Mortal Kombat ...500 years ago ..blabla. The old Goro/Kung Lao history lesson which leads to the first tournament.

Maybe there will be something as "side storys/missions" which show feuds like the Sonya /Kano stuff from MK1 to unlock extra kutscenes and maybe extra Kharacters, stages etc.

But all in all the story mode will just contain tons of kutscenes and maybe a final FMV scene which shows Shao Kahn`s end and maybe even leads to MK4.

And i bet there will be an arcade mode with all (unlocked) Kharacters playable but just Pictures and not even story endings for the Kharacters.

Paintings are the best way to go.

FMVs cost a shit load and delivers less quality imo. Has anyone actually went back and watched the MK4 endings lately, for the most part they actually are pretty cheesy, I just don't want to risk that.

Just give us a FMV opening sequence and maybe an ultimate ending FMV if they want to go that route, but they got it right with the MKDA/MKD style endings.

Agreed!
They should just focus on the gameplay.

Yeah, the MK4 endings actually suck kinda hard, looking back on them. But a lot of that was the poor graphics/animations and the fact that it was their first time. Hiring real actors to do the motion capture work did them a lot of good in MKvsDCU's story mode and their dialogue writing has definitely gotten better over the years.

And the thing that paintings can do that an FMV can't is tell about a longer period of time. You can be like "After the tournament, Liu Kang went home and buried his dead and prayed and met up with Kitana and rebuilt the temple and this and this and that". That's more stuff than you could fit in a single scene.

I still say the best way to go is both like MK vs DCU did it. The ending is a video in story mode because everything in story mode is videos, but a painting in arcade mode then provides the epilogue.

There really is no excuse not to do FMVs with the power of the current-gen systems.

This is exactly why I'd prefer paintings. I don't want twenty seconds of Liu Kang speaking to Raiden about what he just did, even if it is prettier. I'd prefer to have the sense that I just read the end to the final chapter in a good tale and had decent closure from it.

Paintings are so much better! Razor just proved it! I just want them to be more than one picture.

Really MK needs pre fight sequences. Like Scorpion vs Noob wouldn't be just fight!

Or

Or have an FMV for a rival battle like sf4 except way better I believe Midwa I mean Netherealm can do it!

Begin Bio: Painting(2 Pics)
Mid-Game:FMV
End-Game:Painting(3 pics or more)

I'd rather beautifuly painted stills that make you use your imagination, rather than highly detailed, but shoddy acted movies.

If they did the endings like in Twisted Metal 2 or Twisted Metal Black, I would be happy. Paintings are nice, but honestly, the endings in Mortal Kombat have sucked lately, and there is basically no reason to rewatch them.

If they did FMV endings, I would hope they would at least be a minute or two long, each. I find the only good part about MK4/G was the endings...some of them at least.

I was waiting for this question to appear... I don't really mind what kind of ending they use to be honest. I like the pictured endings, I liked the movie endings.

I'm not sure what direction they're going to take the endings in because since the game has been a total shock for all of us, we might get something even different. So who knows. I wouldn't mind seeing either.

I've also always loved the artwork and style of the old paintings-and-text endings as an epilogue for each character, and since the whole game's story mode is going to be told in cutscenes already, they can do BOTH.
Basically, the way they did it in MK vs DCU was perfect except an ending should be TWO pictures, not just one.

Yup, I think this would work nicely.

The endings would have to be actually good for them to pull off the painting style.

I wouldnt mind in-game model video endings if they had action in them.

Ideally, FMV like in the PS version of MK4 would be the best. Imagine Tanya ́s ending as a painting series... it would suck... but to actually see Liu Kang get blown to pieces? Priceless

I would love a huge, beautiful FMV for the story mode ending but I would prefer the paintings of MKvDC for arcade endings.

to me i want movie endings, they got the WB on their side i think they now have the resources and plenty of animators to get all endings in movie form if they wanted you know? hell id settle for in game graphics endings as long as its a movie endings, hell in game graphics are pretty good anyways they dont even have to render the endings just use in game graphics.

It's about time we got long, beautiful and awesome FMV cinematic endings.

But if they are going to stick with the old picture formula, for everything that is sacred, AT LEAST give us MORE THAN JUST 2 or 1.....please!!

I hated that so much in MKvsDC...the pictures were brilliant, but only 1 for each character??????? Boring.

I love how Sindel got 3 in MKD....THAT's how it should be. 3 or more. Enough of having just 1 or 2.
