This argument is pretty funny. In all fairness, Shang's Soul Steal used to have some RANGE to it, this is just a throw and harder to pull off in an actual fight, so I don't know what the crying is all about.

Yes clearly my motive for hating Shang Tsung's throw was to start a war. I knew that would get all of you pissed off.
Sorry I made you so butt hurt about commenting on a characters throw. I almost forgot that this franchise was immuned from criticism.

I never thought in a thousand years that a fanbase could turn me off from a game, but I think that has nearly happened here. I'm off until the 19th, not to avoid spoilers, but to avoid all of this bullshit drama over the littlest of things.

We do know the damage properties. It does 12 percent damage, and it looks to give him about 8-10 percent health back.
No other throw has this advantage, and so far it seems to be a huge advantage. It was in MKvsDC. You could still be right, but as of now I'm hating it. Healing in a fighting game should come at a cost. Such as a crip of some kind or possibly burning meter. So far it looks like a normal throw with an unfair advantage.

"i am not too worried if im facing a noob, if he cant defend properly i can just spam health grab and I will never lose". A key part of balancing is the ability to defend and when.
unless we know exactly what the damage properties are, there is no reason to complain.
that is not even mentioning the grab-counter input where you can break a grab. Thus making you fully able (and should be expecting it if spammed).
jbthrash Wrote:
Thats not a valid argument. You could say that about any move. "Oh if it hits me, it's my fault. In no way is this move over powered."
The other thing is this is about gaining health back. This can completely turn the tables with two good players. I'm not too worried about this in the hands of a newb, because they would probably just spam it and all you have to do is duck to have their throw whiff.

I guess its a matter of perception.
to me, If I allow it to hit me, I deserve to get hit. As long as its not broken, its up to me to counter everything with 100% non-stop punishment!

ok, so when you describe to me how the rest of my point ISNT implying direct contradiction and the factual approach of circumstances DOESNT revolve around tactical application of fighting skills of both offense and defense, then we can talk about this more.
Its still up to you do simply duck or break block... thats it. Its called "fighting" and knowing what your doing. Im sure you have the skill to deem this "not a big deal"
'That is such bullshit. Healing in a fighting game is fucking retarded and to make things worse the opponent loses health as he saps it. It was bad enough as a special move, but now its as easy as a throw.
It looks like Noobs have a new favorite character, and I have a new hated character. Good job NRS. For making a broken ass character.'
That's steller fucking constructive feedback! Good Job!

My favourite response to the testosterone fueled hate messages is a simple.

Well the problem is his regular soul steal is in the game. If that has the same properties as MKvsDC then that means he has double the chance of getting health back. Also throws are easy to perform, easy to fish for, and are some what safe in my experiences. That is why I'm concerned.
I've witnessed plenty of matches where that soul steal was the only thing that kept the Tsung player alive. Frankly I think it's broken.

Soul steal is far from broken, not even in a throw.

Making a note to send hate mail. 8D j/k lol
Anyway, shang looks badass and the healing throw won't be as easy to land on someone that is actually fighting back.

I don't think its that cheap, but it give Shang to much health in my opinion.

Shang Tsung looks like he's a keepaway character, if he throws you something has gone horribly wrong.
I'd wait until the game is out (officially) to really get into balance and broken moves...I can't accurately judge characters from a 1.5 minute video clip. Shangs throw doesn't look to be that big of a deal to me, and I kind of like the diversity of this throw...separates his play style from many others, and I think that's a good thing.
However, if jbthrash wants to voice his concerns and opinion, then good...this forum should be a place to discuss the good and the potentially bad, right? I love a good, respectful debate...
EDIT On topic, the netherrealm/hell is looking fantastic! Here's a debate point: if Scorpion wins without doing his fatality, will he still cut a hole into the ground and...drop...to...hell???

So of all the characters to leak on the web they used Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung?
God forbid the guy instead showcased Smoke vs Sheeva.

Not to mention Shang may not have as many moves as others characters (I'm sure most have seen his move list from the leak) and/or his combined moves may be less effective. The throw/soul steal may actually balance him out. Like someone mentioned, he seems to be keep away. I'm not worried about it, my roomate on the other hand, let's just say the last time a bunch of us went to Charleston I purposely spammed Nitara on Deadly Alliance and had a bunch of drunkards screaming bloody murder!

I DO find something a little fishy.... Every other week when we got a "Shadow" poster of a character, we got a gameplay video later in the week... We got a picture of Shang on monday and have not seen game play of his.. until... THIS.. and like it was previously stated... out of ALLLL the characters to choose from, they pick and show subzero vs. Shang Tsung???? Tooo much of a coincidence if you ask me...

Or maybe they just happen to like Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung, and weren't trying to make a video to show off everything we haven't seen.

Don't you see though? He can heal himself! That's unfair! I mean, Elena can heal herself too in SF3 and she's among the god tier! Oh wait...
