But some characters do take an extended vacation.. Like Stryker (absent from MK series, after UMK3 until Armageddon) and also Mileena (absent from MK series, after UMK3 until Deception)!!

Shang Tsung's inside Sindel. That could be a bit of a problem for him coming back.

Noob was blown up by the Soulnado but he's already dead, his soul could reform or have been sent to another realm.

Shao Kahn is supposed to be gone for good. The whole game was about making sure he wouldn't be around ever again, so he couldn't win Armageddon.

Everyone else who died is pretty much guaranteed to return 'cause the end of this game outright told us the next game will be about Quan and Shinnok using them as a zombie army.

In on scene, Quan Chi showed Raiden that the former possessed their souls, and the final scene(my favorite) was Quan and Shinnok talking about taking Earthrealm and Outworld and that Shinnok was almost free. 1+1, I reckon...

Let's go through the whole death toll in the game.

Kung Lao: Died from a broken neck by shao Kahn by Shao Kahn. Confirmed by Raiden and his soul in the NetherRealm later on. Based on his popularity, I'm guessing he'll be back in MK9, likely as an NPC, but involved in the storyline like Johnny Cage, Sonya, Jax, Kitana, ect. in MK: Deception. I bet he'll be playable again within the next 2 games.

Noob Saibot/ Bi Han: Killed by Scorpion, evident by Scorpion holding his charred skull. Later resurrected, then thrown into a soulnado, which blew up. Death implied by explosion, but no solid proof. My guess is he'll be alive in the next game.

Motaro: Killed by Raiden blasting him through a bridge. Confirmed later on when his body was dragged in front of Shao Kahn. I'm guessing he's gone forever and ever, and only included at all for the fans.

Shang Tsung: Soul absorbed and merged with Sindel by Shao Kahn. Apparently went to the NetherRealm when Sindel died, but no official explaination. I want him to come back soon, but I think he'll be absent for MK10.

Kabal: Stomped on by Sindel and stabbed with her high-healed shoe. Confirmed when his soul was seen in the NetherReal. I'm guessing he won't be playable for MK10, but maybe eventually in the future.

Stryker: Punched in the face by Sindel. I wouldn't have expected that to kill him, but his soul was seen in the NetherRealm, so I guess it did. I'm guessing he won't be playable in MK10, but he may return in later games.

Cyber Sub-Zero: Beaten by Sindel and possibly electrocuted by his own cybernetics (implied by the electric stuff around him as he flies to the ground). Confirmed when his soul was seen in the NetherRealm. I'm guessing he'll be back in the next game. Although it'll be hard to explain, I doubt there will be an MK without Sub-Zero in it.

Jax: Stabbed in the throat by Sindel's high-healed shoe. Confirmed when his soul was seen in the NetherRealm. I'm guessing he'll be non-playable in MK10, but based on his popularity, will return in the next game.

Smoke: Neck snapped my Sindel. Confirmed when his soul was seen in the NetherRealm. My guess is he'll be nonplayable in MK10, but may return in future games.

Jade: Some sort of organ (I'm not good with anatomy) ripped out by Sindel. Confirmed dead when her soul was seen in the NetherRealm.

Sindel: Killed by Nightwolf's beam. Confirmed when her soul was seen in the NetherRealm. I'm guessing she'll be nonplayable for MK10, but may come back in future games.

Nightwolf: Killed by his own beam when he killed Sindel. Confirmed when his soul was seen in the NetherRealm. I think he has a chance to be playable in MK10. Story-wise, he has one of the most pure souls in the MK universe, which may allow him to escape Quan Chi's grasp.

Kitana: Life drained by Sindel. Dies as Liu Kang and Raiden return. Confirmed when her soul was seen in the NetherRealm. I'm guessing she'll be back in either MK10 or 11.

Liu Kang: Electrocuted by Raiden and burned by his own flame thing. No complete proof, but it's heavily implied based on the fact that he is never seen getting back up, the dialogue of the scene (although it is never blatantly confirmed that he's dead), and the fact that he made no movements for a relatively long period of time. I'm guessing he will be back in MK10.

Shao Kahn: Disintrigrated by the Elder Gods through Raiden. His helmet is seen cracked and broken. I don't know if it was officially confirmed verbally, but it's so obvious that I doubt it needs to be.

Other characters that should be in the next MK game:

Everyone who's alive as of MK9

All characters introduced in MK4. Many of them should be improved and built onto; Mostly Jarek comes to mind.

Kenshi, Bo Rai Cho, Frost, possibly Li Mei. Possibly Moloch, Dramin, Frost, and Kira if their stories are improved.

Taking "extended vacations" and referring to everyone being killed off or something are two different thing. If they are completely killed off, there is no chance they'll ever come back. Taking an "extended vacation" will obviously have that particular character return in some future game.



Most likely those that were stated in Razor's post. Although, being turned into a zombie doesn't really qualify people being actually dead. Since in my anthropology class I've mentioned this during a speech about double negatives, in the real world, there is no in-between state of life. Being undead is the in-between state of dead or alive in fantism. I just made up a word. Still, these guys aren't really dead, unless you're Shang, Nightwolf, Sindel, and Noob.

Since there's a clear indication that the next game will somewhat follow the MK4's story, it's most likely we'll be seeing MK4 debuted characters come back into the game such as Fujin and Tanya. Although I am not going to say that this is 100% correct, it's just that it seems so obvious that this might happen since we got Shinnok coming back into the series as the main villain.



If Rain, Kenshi, and Scarlet are to have a serious role in the next story, I reckon they'd be returning. I'm just not going to say which one I'd like to see return because they all have a chance to... Probably except for Freddy though. Even though, I greatly appreciated playing as him.

I'd actually like for someone to tweet Boon and ask him if he'd think about giving Sareena, Kia, and Jataaka a spot on the MK10 roster. I think Jataaka is a very overlooked unique fighting/looking character. Also, we'll be seeing Quan Chi for sure, so it would be something to build on storywise, also some great chick fights. Maybe we can see more of Ashrah's envolvement with Quan Chi/Sareena/Kia/Jataaka.

Noob Saibot should be a hidden fighter like usual, and is trapped in a deminsion that you must find/unlock in some Konquest Mode.

That would make a great concept as well for Sub Zero returning to his body in MK11, First we they have to figure out how to get these fan-favorite 10 back out of Quan Chi's spell and back to normal (him being one of them), then Cyber Sub Zero can be made back to human again; which would make him a great unlockable character for MK11 through a Konquest free-roaming style mode like in MKD.

I don't think they have even started on MK10,

I would like them to keep to the story and bring back all the MK4, MKDA and MKD characters with better stories and moves

Yeah,i'm not sure what tey can do with the roster going in the next MK (which looks like a mk4 reboot sort of).It's going to be interesting to see how they can try to bring back fan favorites,in a somewhat sensible manner(in the MK universe, i mean).I know if a normal sub doesn't make it, there will some angry fans. Liu Kang,he's joked at but i believe many fans like to bicycle kick now and then.The others, honestly i have no idea how they're going to come back,but there's going to be at least a few returns by them,but the real question here is who.I'm not sure.

No matter how much of a Stryker fan I am and no matter how much fighting Kung Lao pisses me off, Kung Lao's death annoyed me more than anyone's.

Shao Kahn isn't this pansy who is just going to kill someone behind their back. He isn't Shang Tsung. He WANTS to fight. He WANTS to feel the power and dominance of kicking your ass. So him just being like, "FUCK YOU! STOP CHEATING!" *snap*....was bullshit.

Why wouldn't Cage and Blade appear? They were the only heroes at Raiden's side who survived through the story mode. Ed Boon sees Sonya like a no-brainer. Liu Kang most probably died, although it's yet uncertain.
This would be my ideal roster for Mortal Kombat 10:

• 30% from MK4–MKA
  
• 25% of the core MK9 cast
  
• 15% of MK9 characters reformed (Drathon, Zmoke, Jerrod...)
  
• 10% originally side characters (Ruutuu, Stuntman, Hornbuckle...)
  
• 20% all-new, well developed, original, varying fighters

The next game can be completely different from this game; it doesn't have to replace MK9, but to go along with it. The (careful) change of characters does a lot. The gameplay mechanics shouldn't see a dramatic change. A heavy weight on new characters and less space for the MK9 characters – DLC can bring old fellows. A total of ~40 including DLC seems right. Chess Kombat would be stunning. [*Zmoke as in Beast/Zombie Smoke]

So that's why Kahn and Shang fought over that baby!

i don't think Motaro will be dead for good. just remember that no one really dies in MK. I think it could be possible that Quan Chi will resurrect him to serve Shinnok (and no, i'm not talking as undead like the as-of-now dead heroes). the next game should be his chance to shine.
