If you're in a cut throat fight, I doubt priority number one is to look pretty, practical yes, pretty, not so much..

A belly piercing isn't going to put you into some kind of strategic disadvantage, especially when it's a simple stud like the one she was sporting. Plus if we're going to throw on character traits onto a character from our perspective, Sonya could be wearing one just because she enjoys wearing piercings. It wouldn't have a thing to do with her wanting to look pretty on a mission to hunt Kano.
Point being, people don't want Sonya to show off any sex appeal because she's supposed to be a military chick, but what they bitch about most of the time has nothing to do with the character being portrayed as impractical, at least up until this game where she's wearing a flack vest as a bra and fighting in high heels. But even then it's not something I'd personally get all red ass angry about.

OMG, Garlador, before I make a decent response to your glorious KOTW thread, I just have to remind that you totally missed Rosetta's and Derek TickleMuffins' best MK game appearance and character development EVER!
Queve feels that it is almost crucial that you edit your original post to feature the wonders of her partners just like the ones you featured in the first pictures you posted.
Behold, the biggest mountains of MK and the smallest little MK waist ever (though her MKvsDC waist might provide some competition):
MK: Shaolin Monks is easily one of the most well developed (exaggerated?) appearances of Sonya's loyal partners. She's got a body that reminds me of Jessica Rabbit.
Her waist is probably the smallest (ever) in the history of MK and till this day I can't understand how she manages to stand up without breaking her back or falling down flat on her face:

Only her MKvsDC waist could provide some form of competition. It's like, impossibly small and it makes you wonder how Rosetta and Derek TickleMuffins are not breaking her back:

While this might have been for a good laugh, you certainly did a good job at (subtly) expressing "under the table" the community's concern and annoyance when it comes to the unfair treatment that certain characters have received over the past few years.

Many costumes in MK are "not suited for combat" when you stop to think about it. I don't think that's even a central issue when thinking about a characters design considering MK's already well stablished position when it comes to these stuff.
This is not even a big deal.
The real problem is having a costume that actually FITS the character's overall personality, attitude, portrayal, and presentation. Her MKDA alternate did that pretty well (even if its not supposed to be a combat costume, its totally Sonya). Her MKDA primary, for what it was, managed just as well even with a silly thong. So did her MKSM design despite the belly piercing and the impossible small waist.
I don't think people want to "repress" her, but, most fans, me included, hope for a look that actually fits who she is supposed to be and represent. MK9 primary is honestly the only Sonya costume that I've ever felt that failed this goal (not ecounting MK1 and MK3 for obvious reasons, cause those are worse).

Why would you want to see her MKDA uniform return in any incarnation? I mean, I get the desire to see Sonya in military gear is as strong as wanting to see her butt naked, but why that outfit? That uniform wasn't suited for combat any more than her default. It's a dress/officers uniform. I love her belly piercing. So. Sexy.
Many costumes in MK are "not suited for combat" when you stop to think about it. I don't think that's even a central issue when thinking about a characters design considering MK's already well stablished position when it comes to these stuff.
This is not even a big deal.
The real problem is having a costume that actually FITS the character's overall personality, attitude, portrayal, and presentation. Her MKDA alternate did that pretty well (even if its not supposed to be a combat costume, its totally Sonya). Her MKDA primary, for what it was, managed just as well even with a silly thong. So did her MKSM design despite the belly piercing and the impossible small waist.
I don't think people want to "repress" her, but, most fans, me included, hope for a look that actually fits who she is supposed to be and represent. MK9 primary is honestly the only Sonya costume that I've ever felt that failed this goal (not ecounting MK1 and MK3 for obvious reasons, cause those are worse).

Well you have to remember something. During pre-production when Sonya was finally released for us, NO ONE liked what she wore. Her thread had at least 745 replies to it out of the other ones that had like 250 replies, all because of her shirt and how there was no undershirt.
People even went to great lengths into re-designing her, people actually liked that redesigning more than the actual thing...
I just hated that she again is wearing high heels becuase it makes no sense that she would wear something if she was to be someone representing the military.
Though, I'm sure that this isn't the main reason but... We all have to remember that her boobs started a lot of hate.
It's what we girls have to get used to, boobs will one day destroy mankind. I am convinced at least. Boobs and belly button rings.
