Maybe you would play as the Elder Gods, since Shao Kahn has reached the power of THEM.

I think the opening cinematic would've become much more canon, and we would have had a drastically new roster with a few old faces.

But it ignored Taven's Konquest mode. It was confirmed that NetherRealm Studios had Shao Kahn defeat and absorb Blaze's power, not Taven. Granted, Taven doesn't actually absorb Blaze's power in his ending, but what I'm trying to say is they ignore Taven even fighting Blaze at all.

So, how do you think MK9 would have been if they actually followed Taven's Konquest?

I honestly thought that MK was going to pull a Street Fighter 3, where they pretty much start with a new slate. Largely new cast with a handful of returning characters.

The direction that seemed most obvious or most appropriate to me was to...

1) reveal that Taven defeated Blaze, but perhaps not alone, maybe somehow Daegon got there first or they did it together, since Daegon's is the only ending in the game that reveals Argus and Delia aren't dead...which has to be true since Argus is the narrator of all the endings.

2) Obviously, the "prize" didn't do what it was meant to do and kill or depower everybody, so the war just plain has to be fought to its conclusion. A whole lotta characters die to clean up the roster a little bit, but not EVERYBODY.

3) Dark Raiden is the end boss of a future game or games because he was pretty heavily hinted as being on the path to end up as the new Shao Kahn and/or influenced by the One Being.
I always found it a little odd that every single person on the internet was expecting an SF3-style clean slate, all because of an interview with Boon that they all misinterpreted. He was talking about starting over from scratch with the engine and everyone thought for some reason that he was talking about the roster instead. And I was pointing out for years that they had it wrong but they just kept on believing like my post was invisible...

Raiden being the next problem would be AWESOME.

But maybe instead of conquering realms, he wants to destroy them and their inhabitants, thinking it might be better off than annexation, but it might be even worse in awakening the One Being somehow than just conquering realms.

To be honest, I was inspired to make this thread hearing that you wanted to write a story for your Razorverse that continued after Armageddon. I used to disregard it for being seemingly inconsistent with character deaths and making a pointless story that changes nothing with Taven's ending, but reading your posts has piqued my interest.

I hated the idea of a story device that just kills "certain" (i:e Unpopular) characters. Mostly because I loves Sheeva. And I'm realistic. She wasn't making out of Armageddon pre REBOOT.

BUT, I did like Daegon's ending where it made everyone stronger(?). They could have went on with that one and actually made it a part of the gameplay (EX Specials, X Rays etc)

The whole point of Armageddon was to thin out the numbers. In the most clumsy way possible. And in a way I'm glad that was a bit of a fuck up. Not only for Sheeva but for a lot of the MK:DA/Deception characters. A lot of them aren't shit. I mean can you really say that Jarek and Reiko are better characters than Frost or Bo Rai Cho and so on. Hell even Kobra and Dairou are better. Yes they are shit but not Jarek and Reiko shit. Reiko was only cool in Armageddon.

In terms of the Roster I would have said some of the iconic characters with a lot of new characters, A new shokan and Dark Raiden as bosses.

Everyone getting stronger is Taven's ending.

Daegon's ending is Argus shows up and goes "it was all a ruse, I just wanted to see which of my sons I could trust, and it obviously isn't you! Taven gets godhood, you get punished!"

God its been so long since I played Armageddon.

But yeah, I think overall by doing a reboot game/pure old school Mortal Kombat roster, it injected the right amount of viagra and steroids into Mortal Kombat again. Something tells me "MK8" wouldn't have done that. I mean at the time Gears was the benchmark Unreal Engine game and if I'm right Ed wanted the next MK to look like that. Now. I like Gears. But at that time it was famous for having two colours as well as mastering "Ruined beauty". It wouldn't have set the world on fire. Along with a roster of mostly new characters.

I was disappointed they didn't go with Kintaro's ending. Now THAT would have made for a grrrrreat story!
