Well, they seem to have retconned the clone part of their bio. So I suppose they no longer are clones. Which is good. Mileena has so much more over Kitana anyway why would she be a clone of an inferior being.

Either way nonstandard use of the word, I always wondered what kind of defect would make Kitanas clone look like a tarkatan. Now we get the answer, through magic she was bred. It seems to be a better replacement.

This is not cloning in scientific term, but splicing. Though I think labcoats and geneticists aren't really in abundance in Shangs employ.

It's not just Kitana's DNA, it's also tarkatan. I guess they used a little more essence of tarkatan this time around. I don't see why Kahn just didn't have a daughter the natural way, but I guess this works too. Not as cool as Kitana, but she has chompers, that's interesting.

Well it was established back in Deception that her "essence", which we will assume to be the magic version of DNA, was Kitana's spliced with a Tarkatan's, 'cause Kahn wanted her to be a more loyal and ruthless version.

The idea at the time, of course, stemming from the original MK2, was that getting the Tarkatan mouth too was unintended and Mileena was deemed flawed, a failed experiment, and instead of replacing Kitana as she was meant to, was only kept around to partner up with and keep a close eye on Kitana instead.

Kitana was basically told "This is your long lost twin, she's got this deformity, it's all very tragic, try not to make her feel too subconscious about it, eh? Here, why don't the two of you both wear matching masks to cover it up?"

Yeah I hate this as well and sent several messages to Ed twitter account regarding this matter but as expected I was ignored everytime...

The guy believes his ideas are the best and doesn't care about anybody else feedback aka the fans, people who makes the franchise still live on by purchasing the titles.

Perhaps that was the reason that led John Tobias leaving the team; he could not bear watching Ed Boon damaging the creations John Tobias has made.

I believe when they started producing Mortal Kombat Deception they felt the need to spice up the main female character of the game (main since Kitana or Sonya weren ́t there). Perhaps because the sales of the previous Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance didn't match their expectations (of course not, horrible roster among other stuff).

And truth be said, Mileena new "sexy sexual slave" look was so provocative and well received (or at least among the Mortal Kombat team, but who the hell would say no to Ed's ideas?!) that she was the most if not only female character to be used in advertisements of the game.

But at least in Sindel ending (if I'm not mistaken) they used a palette swap of Mileena (blue version) to portrait Kitana.

Now with this game they went further!!! They spiced Mileena even more by giving her straight long hair, perhaps based on her alternate outfit from Mortal Kombat Deception. Not only that but they felt the need of Spiced the whole female part of the roster!!! Some of them are acceptable. Kitana is sexy in the right amount, still being beautiful in a conservative way. The same goes for Sindel and Jade. But Sonya and Mileena are the worst! I admit I like Sonya in this look but in the other hand it still is out of character! It doesn't fit Sonya persona at all! She always was beautiful and sexy in a conservative way, like Kitana by other words, without the need of showing too much skin. She was a respected member of an elite group. Now she looks like she is about to go party to a dance club in downtown while having a couple of drinks!

But the worst still is Mileena. Not only she is like 20% clothes and 81% skin now but also they gave her this childish personality... which I hate... Although she began her life as an adult doesn't mean she could not progress her mind into one as well...

They seem to contradict themselves with this Mileena design... they try to make her look sexy but still they gave her "snake eyes". How awkward!

I understand with the 3D era they felt the need of differentiating Mileena and Kitana more, I’m sure Mileena herself would like to distinguish herself more of the “real thing”. But that doesn’t means they should totally ignore the character origins and background! She still is a clone of Kitana, raised as Kitana’s twin sister, and later would attempt to replace her. She could change her haircut, her clothes but her face should be exactly the same of Kitana’s (well except for what the veil hides underneath)!

Regarding the whole Mileena=Kitana thing, they started wrong in Mortal Kombat 4 (of course, I think by then John Tobias was no longer on the team to give them the right directions to follow, which surprise me since Mortal Kombat 4/Gold roster was not bad at all! Unlike the successors MK D.A. and D.) Deception took this to another level and now this MK game that was supposed to be the retelling of the origins of the whole thing starts at this point already. I can only hope that later on they decide to make available through DLC an alternative costume for Mileena where she looks more like Kitana (not counting the classic costume since back then they were just palette swaps with different fighting styles). I dunno about you guys but I would rather this costume for her than the “beyond your imagination” prize for beating the challenge tower mode. For someone who wants to replace the real thing she fails big time!

I also hate the new direction mileena is going in (cat eyes,child mind,baraka with boobies, not much of a backstory/dichotomy with kitana... But then I came to the conclusion through other members on this board to stop caring about plot. Even though I love her to death... I guess every character isn't going to live up to high expectations/aspirations(or perhaps imagined expectations).

The new reboot has me caring less about story and character development.
While the new plot spoilers build foundation for previously under
developed characters(jade,smoke,stryker and kabal. I plan on going into
this game with a positive mind..at least we have mileena this time around.

This is possible. Shao Kahn doesn't really look like anything else we've seen in Outworld and he seems to be inherently immortal so it's possible that he can't conceive although that begs the question of what is he and where did he come from and where are the rest of his kind.

I dont get why people say she is child like?? I thinks its wrong to say that since Mileena is soo sexual, I can never see what she does as child like.

She's child like because of the giggling, the lil dance intro. "Looking for a playmate". Yes, it has sexual undertones, but she seems very.... evil crazy minded kid in a sexy bod as opposed to what she used to be.

I have to disagree i can never see as saying those things as "childish" Its being flirty, She is like that because she is "crazy" not like a child and i read the spoiler and even though shes "new" it doesnt mean she knows nothing because if she was childlike she would know nothing about sex, Its like felicia from darkstalkers she doesnt rub her body and say sexual things she acts like a cat who happens to be naked. So i see people who say shes child like know nothing about being flirty.
