Really, as inconsequential as it might be to all of you, he has a damn point. I could understand that the tarkatans have "internal" lips and tongues to produce sounds, if they weren't moving their actual mouth and tongue when they were speaking. NRS is obviously trying to show them speaking with THIS mouth, and like with so many other graphics related things, failing spectacularly. It looks STUPID, and is really a huge f***ing embarrassment to an otherwise (mostly) great story mode.

Try this: bare your teeth with your lips pulled way back and try to say "playmate." YOU F***ING CAN'T. Guess what, neither can Mileena. The best she would be able to mutter would be "lay-ate"

For the smartass who says we're just noticing this now: Mileena and Baraka never spoke in cutscenes in MK2, because there WERE NO cutscenes. IDK what they did in later games, because I pretty much dumped the series for SC after MK3. I don't think it's ever been this glaringly obvious though that they're speaking sounds that they shouldn't possibly be able to produce.

What they SHOULD have done is to give Mileena a mouth like she has in MK: Legacy, which only splits open when she's enraged or something, but otherwise has normal lips. Baraka could stay the same, but he should just not speak. He should growl or grunt like Reptile. Either that, or if you want to run with the "internal" vocalizations, don't show them chomping their jaws and flopping their tongue when they speak. Instead, they could extend their jaw forward (or something) to emphasize their speaking from their throat. I really love how Legacy did it though. It's perfect.

They've been talking in cutscenes since 1997 in MKGold.

But the way I see it, they have internal organs in their vocals that act as lips and teeth, and they use the tongues in their mouths to speak. I know it's not the most glorious and profound explanation, but it's good enough for me in this game of magic and sorcerers and undead ninjas and such.

And one more thing: everyone in MK speaks. Even Reptile. Sadly, you don't hear him speak. But he is seen talking to Shang Tsung, and he has dialogue in Challenge Tower. So Baraka shouldn't be singled out just because he doesn't have a conventional mouth.

I just wish Mileena and the Tarkatans could close their mouths. It looks ridiculous having their jaws hanging agape permanently.

You guys simply have to accept that Tarkatans and Mileena can talk, though it seems physically impossible. NRS have decided that the Tarkatans can talk even if their mouths cannot close due to their large teeth and the lack of lips. You might think it's stupid, but that's just the way it is. You just have to deal with it.

Jesus some of you guys are far too serious. MKO used to be fun.

Clearly Tarkatans are like the Xenomorphs and they have a second small mouth that does all of their talking for them.

You know, I never thought that something like Mileena and Baraka being articulate despite large teeth and the lack of lips would ever matter, especially enough to make a thread about it.

It's a video game, dude. A fantastic one at that.

I've been a proponent of the theory that they have secondary lips, etc. for a little while now, that they're further down in their throats, and that's what they actually speak from. I see the teeth as being an evolutionary feature, a defense mechanism if you will, something to make them look fearsome.

Now, if someone would care to tell me how Baraka bends his elbows when his blades are retracted, would love to hear it.

Keep dunking your Kenshi breadsticks into your Skarlet sauce, people! The main course isn't coming for a while, and you never know when it's going to be disappointing.

It was already mentioned on this thread:

Nah, I don't buy that. Then they'd have to, I don't know, shrivel up or crumble every time he retracts them into his arms, or something. We do see them go back in - they do retract.

Really, I've just learned to smile and nod when it comes to anatomy logic in the world of fiction. Nobody should be taking this stuff too seriously. grin

They are actually as Tarkatan women have their genitals on their faces.

Bah, Tarkatan's likely high metabolism's in order to constantly reconstruct and deconstruct their blades at will, only way I could see them being able to move their arms when their blades are not used.

As the guy who came up with the Marrow comparison in the first place, I just wanna say I've been misquoted. I never said "They don't retract", I said I think they do BOTH.
