Did anyone else get caught off guard when he said street fighter was for casuals and this mk was for the hardcore,not saying whether it is true or not,you just never hear anyone say it.

Also lol at the only real complaint being it is too hard,and that shao kahn is cheap.

Seriously though, in terms of improvement, this is the greatest Mortal Kombat ever. But the greatest Mortal Kombat ever may NOT be the greatest fighting game ever.

If Mortal Kombat is my favorite fighting game series, and this is looking to be the best MK yet, than this is going to be the greatest fighting game ever... for me.

And, honestly, that's the beautiful thing about opinions and personal preference; they're true for you and they can't be wrong, even if the majority thinks otherwise.

There are things I adore that the general consensus says are crap (Castlevania 64, the Street Fighter movie), and there are things I hate that the majority loves (Twilight, Call of Duty, etc.).

So, yeah, I'm expecting this Mortal Kombat to be my favorite Mortal Kombat ever, and my favorite fighting game ever. And nobody can tell me otherwise.

Street Fighter was cool (me teenager = big Van Damme fan, posters and all that :) and I fell asleep on the Twilight (true story).

I'm eagerly anticipating Gamespot's rating! IGN.....meh it is what it is with them! I just want NRS to get the respect they put out in this game!

Ugh... people who say tekken is boring are the people who don't know how to play it properly. Anyways I'm getting this game tonight.. can't wait. Oh and I the subject I really hope ign gives them a good score.

Actually, it's just my opinion. I consider myself a decent Tekken player, it's just not my type of fighter. It feels slow and lacks interesting characters (again, this is just my opinion)

My brief thoughts on Tekken...

Tekken is a weird beast. :P The entire series has been a mixed bag of really big highs and really bad lows.

On one hand, Tekken 3 and 5 were two of my favorite fighting games ever. I'd dare say Tekken 3 remains one of my top 5 fighters, though I continue to be impressed by Tekken 5's high quality, large roster, and bold direction. And Tekken Tag was a lot of fun, but didn't quite have that TLC the other games had.

On the other hand, Tekken 1 in retrospect is pretty terrible. Tekken 2 was much improved, but still mediocre. Tekken 4 is probably my least favorite in the series. And Tekken 6 was a colossal disappointment for me, with outdated graphics, surprisingly clunky gameplay, a bizarre story and character directions, terrible story endings, and bland new characters (though I like Miguel), and the vast majority of characters are still wearing their Tekken 5 duds, giving it a very strong been-there,done-that vibe.

And then, of course, there's Tekken's spin-off, Death By Degrees. Yeah... less said about that, the better.

I enjoy Tekken, but it seems to flip-flop between installments for me loving it and me not caring a bit. Since I didn't like Tekken 6, that probably means I'll like Tekken Tag 2.

Let me put it another way:

Fans of Mortal Kombat prefer Mortal Kombat.

Fans of fighting games don't.

It just happens that while MK is on it's apex, all other fighting games are currently experiencing the very same conceptual problems MK had to face previously when transitioning. Mainly to keep itself relevant.

Sooner or later SF and Tekken had to produce a sequel that was questionable. MK hit the jackpot with the timely release of the best MK so far.
