2011 has been a good year for Mortal Kombat and NetherRealm Studios. Not satisfied with the return of action figures, new high quality Statue Collectibles, special marketing commercials, a successful web-series, the confirmation of a new movie, being featured in various major Tournament Events and becoming the 'Best Selling Fighting Game of the year', the game has also been crowned the 'Best Fighting Game of the Year' by Spike's VGA, the Golden Joystick Awards, and the Official US Xbox Magazine among others.

Gaming website, IGN has made a list of their Top 100 Favorite Video Game Moments and Mortal Kombat's famous "FINISH HIM!" is featured among the top!

"Gruesome, yes, but Mortal Kombat's fatalities were never so over-the-top that they were genuinely disturbing. They were extravagant fullstops, ludicrous spectacles of splatter and gore. But they weren't always easy to execute. Back when Mortal Kombat was released, one couldn't just look up how to do them on the internet. Fatalities were discovered through trial and error, circulated between friends and published in magazines. Once the words "Finish Him" rang out and the screen dimmed, the pressure was on. Some were complicated, some were easy, but all required expert timing. Once perfected, there was no better way to humiliate a cocky friend or shock an unsuspecting relative at Christmas than by removing their spine like perfectly-steamed Dover sole."

IGN also featured Mortal Kombat in their Goriest and most violent games of 2011 video montage. Check out their Year in Violence.

Moving on, Google statistics revealed that Mortal Kombat is among the Top 5 Most Searched Games of 2011 ahead of games such as 'The Elder Scolls V', 'Mass Effect 3', and 'Battlefield 3'.

While little details of 'Mortal Kombat Vitality' and 'Mortal Kombat: KOMPLETE EDITION' have been revealed, both titles remain a mystery that is open to speculation and guessing. What we do know is that Ed Boon has stopped all the rumors concerning NRS "taking a long break" from Mortal Kombat. The team is currently working on MK-related and non-MK related games.
