That Goro statue in the background looks very very familiar:

It's almost like they rendered that Collectors statue in similar Fashion to the MKA Reiko and Rain renders.
Very cool.
That arena is definitely my favorite so far. Extremely beautiful. And I'm happy to see Sonya kicking butt in it.

That was an awesome MKast. I watched it twice, and some parts three times. :D
I really can't wait to play this.

This just blows my mind.
This really is my dream MK game. Never has Mortal Kombat ever looked so perfect. This is 1993 all over again for me. If this was in the arcades, I would be there spilling thousands of quarters into it.
Dojo is perfectly sexy!! Hopefully we can fight in it
Warrior Shrine is hands down the most beautiful MK stage EVER created. I have a feeling Goro is going to be a monster in this.
Johnny Cage looks like a god damn monster!!! So AWESOME. He hasn't been this brutal and effective since MK2.
Sonya, yum yum.
GAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please let these 4 months go by quickly.

What has Sonya's fighting style always been?Cause I really cant tell from the video.

In MKDA and MKA she had taekwondo as her primary if I recall correctly.
And goddamn it's looking good. They address several of the concerns from a gameplay perspectives. Wakeups and dash skills are a definite plus. It was one of my gripes with the older games(MKDA-MKA) because of the slowness and lack of fluidity in fights. I remember just using Kung Lao's teleport juggle uppercut to launch people into near infinite combos when MKA came out.
There's also a ton of time left for tweaking and modifying the characters. I think from the interview, Hector mentioned the refinement of individual animations and speeds for the characters. Sub Zero used shotokan, and he seems like a powerful, but slower bruiser.
I haven't been this excited for an mk game since I played MKII back in 95 at my old ice rink.

Bummed. They didn't show any of Sonya's moves except for that front flip. All they mostly showed was her getting her ask kicked.
Also, I know I'm the only one, but I can't keep from expressing myself... I still HATE the fact that they use a man to do all the motion capture, even for the females. So sick of the girls sporting all these manly dikey movements. Ugh!!
Why the hell is this the only game series in the world that does that?

1) Sonya has a butch personality, a manly fighting style is appropriate for her.
2) The mocap USED to be done by one dude, but they have a TEAM for motion capture now. They even hire actual actors for the cutscene capture, including females for the female parts. There's a whole video about it on the bonus disk that came with the special edition of MKvsDCU.

In MKDA her main stances where Kenpo and Tae Kwon Do (which fitted her much better).
In MKA they kept Tae Kwon Do as her main style.
In one of the magazines she's seen in a Tae Kwon Do fighting style/stance.
The new video shows her in a more aggressive and fierce stance. She's so freaking ready to kill.

I agree on the (sadly) little and limited Sonya footage.
I agree on the dislike of having men doing the motion-capture stances for females.
I disagree that this stance one doesn't "look good" on Sonya. It honestly looks superb. I'm crazy about her fighting stance (loving it!). She looks so freaking fierce and dangerous. Very intimidating and so ready to kill. I love it.

1) Totally! I love the tom-boy reference and how fierce she looks.
2) Well, while this is true, it is also true that (I think) they've still been using men to motion capture the fighting attacks/stances of all characters (females included).
Sonya's stance is perfect though. I'm loving how dangerous she looks.

Five years ago, I couldn't give a shit about Reptile. I can't believe how amazing they've made him now. He's not going to be my main, and he's not going to be my backup either, but I will definitely master him on the side and use him liberally online.
I wanna get excited about Sonya, but that character model... it just doesn't look like Sonya to me. Other than her blond hair, nothing else seems to have transferred.

Interesting. I'm curious: do you still feel like it's not Sonya when you look at her tough SF pants? the cool straps around her body/arms? the dog-tags? the bangs+pony tail (hair)? the gloves? the green+black pattern? the knee/elbow-pads? I think that's all Sonya Blade, imo.
However, as much as I see "Sonya" I also see that she is missing a shirt under that sexy vest. Very unlike "Sonya".
That's my one super major complaint.

The thing about the pants is that the look they have now was one established with MKvsDC, a game which I never played extensively. It wasn't until I compared the old MKvsDC render that I recognized the pants.

Honestly, I didn't even notice the straps till ya mentioned it. I remember the black straps around her shoulders in MKvsDC which made it look like she was wearing a backpack... now that I think about, didn't she have a backpack in the early screenshots?
queve Wrote:

The dog tags certainly count, but truthfully, if I saw this character model by itself, with no context, particularly the game genre, the dog tags wouldn't go far for me. For all I know, she could be from Uncharted 2.
Now if I knew the model was for a fighting game, I would eventually deduce Sonya.

Is there green on her?

You know, that's all it would really take. The tank top is a staple now, like Ermac's bandages and (hopefully soon) Jade's pigtails. She's had it for three games now (if you include the black one in MKSM); it's the edge that would make the costume into something definitive and representative.

TemperaryUserName Wrote:

Because if there is, that changes a lot. Color is so important when it comes to character signature.
Is there green on her?
As a matter of fact, her entire wardrobe is actually a dark shade of green. I know it looks black in screenshots and stuff, but it's not. It's perhaps a little too dark, but it is in fact green.
Personally, I think the only thing her costume is missing to cement "This is Sonya" is the black headband she almost always wears. Or failing that, a green beret. Or a baseball cap, but Stryker's in this game so I imagine dibs has been called on the hat. It's just, Sonya has never not worn something on the top of her head before. I think that's the problem here that's making her look generic, that's the signature for a Sonya wardrobe even moreso than "tanktops" would be.

I don't have too muich of a prob with Sonya's outfit, but I was hoping she would have a top like she had in MK/DC where. Her chest just pops out now and it's just not... her... Her style. Eh.

1. there is no distinction between male or female combat movements. All of them adhere to the unison physiology and geometry of the human body.
Plus fancy dancing and circular movements usually have one result: being useless. All functional martial arts are as simplistic as possible. Though when it comes to special moves etc. artistic liberties can be taken.
2. Thus argument about mocap is invalid.

The male body and the female body are structurally different right down to skeleton shape. I'd think someone so obsessed with reality as you would know simple facts about biology and anatomy. Not to mention punches and kicks isn't the only thing we're watching them do here, they walk, they taunt, they ACT during cutscenes, body language and posture still come into play a lot and it's easier to get a real woman who moves like a woman and has the proportions of a woman than to try to imitate it as a dude and make it look silly and unnatural.
But then, if you had put any actual thought into these things, that would mean you might have USEFUL information to add to a discussion for once, and that would be quite the change of pace.
And I notice your stance on the fact that this is a VIDEO GAME and not the real world is still "la la la I can't hear you". That sure is helpful.

I think Kitana and Sindel, Jade too when she gets in, should all show damage much slower than the other characters. It should take a lot longer for battle damage to show on them, kinda like a nod to the "Edenians are descended from Gods" thing. Also I think it would be cool if Kitana's fans came back to her like boomerangs.
