Well, I could sit here and talk about witing and story structure all day, so I'll just make it simple.

STORY

A good story, and I'll spare the basics sense most people on here know the MK story, but as far as writing goes, it was good.

I wish it was more standalone, cause it;s not as great an entry point for story as some might think. It ends on a very strange note that I think only MK fans can like or dislike, as opposed to being completely like "What?"

It's set up in a way where

1) You know lots of stuff happened before this, and as a casual fan, you always feel like thee's something you should be catching.

2) You know lots of stuff will happen after this that a lot of people might know, but the most casual does not.

So not a great entry point, or standalone story, It's a standalone product, but story is a different story (Pun most intended)

As an MK story, it's the best, but MK has many flaws, and since I'm reviewing THIS game, I'll leave those out.

Story: 8.8 of 10

GAMEPLAY

Best yet, to be brief. I could also talk about gameplay, but I am sure most of you know how a fighter should be at it's core, and how it should work, and this game meets those standards.

If you don't know about Gampleay of fighting games, look it up it's rather simple.

Gameplay: 9 of 10

CHARACTER DESIGN

Good, not great, but good.

For magic and ninjas and cyborgs alltogether, it keeps it's consistency, and looks good.

As a standalone Cyborg movie, thoug, Sektor or Cyrax would look pretty bland.

Some characters look good either way,a and some can only appeal to fighting gamers (Giant tits, the general pervyness found in most fighting games, a man with a tatoo of his name on his chest wearing sports pants and wrist wraps.)

Char. Design: 8.6 of 10

BACKGROUND DESIGN

Something I find most important, and it was done well.

I loved the BG's from MK1-MK3, and they still look good.

It makes me really feel like I am on a mystical Island when in the background, over the heads of clapping monks and evil sorcerers, I see mountains and ocean.

The island fascinates me most, cause I love island enviornments, like the iconic Skull island from King Kong (the original, no PJ remake.)

So, I will do them each.

Courtyard: 10

ST Garden: 9

Goro's Lair: 9

Deadpool: 9.5

Rooftop: D: 8.5, N: 8. DSK: 8.

Hell: 10

SK's Throne Room: 7

Temple: 8.4

Living Forest: 9

The Pit: 8.8

Flesh Pits: 5

Kollosium: 9

Subway: 8.9

Bridge: 7.9

Graveyard: 9

Tower: 7.8

Soul Chamber: 8.4

Pit Bottom: 8.5

Belltower: 5.

MUSIC

I wish it was a bit more epic, but hey, it's still pretty good if you ask me.

Music: 8.9

I LOVE this game, and I can't beat Shoa Kahn on Easy after 30 tries, and I lost to Kintaro on Beginner today, so that's saying something.

I havn't gotten to play it just yet, but will be really soon. From what i can see by watching the videos online. Im excited. Been a Huge MK fan for many years now. The Graphics, gameplay, the backgrounds, the alities and now babalities having more of a comic effect on them is great. I'm so ready to begin playing it when i can get it. I still play my other MK games. Wish MK:A was still able to go online. But they gotta make room for Dc vs.Mk and now MK9.
My overall ratings just from seeing it online. 10/10
Once I get my hands on it and play it, i'll have my true ratings posted.

Gameplay - 9/10

Graphics - 10 Honestly, It's an amazing looking game. It looks great for all the characters, especially with their klassic costumes.

Story - 7/10 Honestly It was a bit disappointing, and the fact that you can't skip cut scenes makes it worse. None the less, I enjoyed it and it has a great ending that's full of suspense for the next MK.

Online - It's fun, but when people do cheap tactics just to win it really gets on your nerves. 7/10

Stages: Awesome! I loved it since they brought back many of the original stages from 1,2, and 3. I hope they bring back some of the stages from MK4. The fan stage, Reptile's lair, the Elder God's stage as DLC. I enjoyed them and I'm glad they're in here. 9/10.

Characters: Great! They brought back alot of the originals and their sweet ass klassic costumes. Couldn't be any better, only if they included MK4. (Don't ask, MK4 is my favorite Mortal Kombat game ever.) 8/10

Replay value 9/10

It's a great Mortal Kombat game that will live on in history as the changing point in the MK series. It's probably going to be better then MK10, although as good as this one turned out I can expect alot for the future.

Finally got my hands on a copy of Mortal Kombat 2011 from Hong Kong as it was banned in Australia due to the R18 rating. I’m about half way through the story mode and loving it. Complete my first tower the other night with Scorpion and thought it was fantastic.
Overall i think the graphics are great and the game play is even better.

As a non-regular of the MK franchise, I thought I would give MK(2011) a try. I finally got a chance to do that today, and although I haven't even scratched the surface of this game's potential, I was very impressed with this game's quality. Youtube doesn't do this game justice...the one thing that really brought out the "WOW" factor for me was how buttery-smooth the game looks in motion. Executing the moves is one thing, but as I've only played the game for a day, I can't really have the final say on gameplay execution. But from what little I've played, this is hands-down the BEST Mortal Kombat I've ever played, and I've played MK2/UMK3/MK v. DC (the last one was absolute garbage in the gameplay department). Combos require skill and timing, but they are eye-candy to see once they're executed in the correct fashion.

And the cast of characters...perfect selection! They all look different, and this time around, they all play significantly different. Some characters are easier to pick up and play (Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Kitana) than others (Sub Zero, Cyrax, Jade). But they're no clones of one another any more, visual-wise or gameplay-wise. To summarize, I may not own this game any time soon (I'm renting it as we speak), but to anyone who loves the MK series and wants a high quality fighting game with their favorite characters in MK, this is the game to get, learn, and master! With MK(2011), you will learn respect for this franchise and no longer view it as pathetic and weak!

This MK turned out to be better than I expected. Love the X-ray idea and glad they brought back the 2 on 2 kombat. I was also pleased with the Test Your Luck gameplay. Sure I liked Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon but this one hit closer to home...seeing as MK 1-3 were my Favs. I love the graphics and I enjoy MK being in 2D fighting style again; never thought that would happen lol. The story was entertaining as well; however, I did wish it was somewhat longer. Just as it was getting good then it was over, so ya more chapters would've been nice but I guess I'm ok with how many there are. I also like how they made it fun by adding a unique krypt *and that dam monster in it that creeps me out everytime it pops out* I was also pleased to see Test Your MIght come back and I enjoyed the Test Your Sight as well. lol.... It definitely has replay value too.. I play it almost every day and it doesn't get old so that is also a plus. I was displeased Rain wasn't immediately available and also bummed that Motaro and C/Khameleon didn't make the cut... that would've been nice as well. Two other thing that would've been sweet are the return of Friendships/Animalities and more stages. But overall I am satisfied with the job NRS did and I hope they make the next MK game as enjoyable as well. Overall I guess I would rate this game 9/10.

Story: For a reboot, it was really good I must say. They did the cutscenes and the fights really well. The only complaints(very small) I have is when Sindel pwns a MAJORITY of the Earthrealm Warriors in 3 minutes and I wish the Villains had a Chapter in the Story aswell(except Scorpion and Cyrax because they were Neutral at the time)

Score: 9.5

Graphics: The Graphics are really good. Best in the series so far. Though Kitana's hair is weird.

Score: 8.5

Sound(Music): The Voice actors(actresses) are really good(Except for Shao Kahn, he sucks). As for the Music for the game, the music for the stages are kinda lame and forgettable. Luckily, in Vs. Mode and Online, you can select the Klassic Music(which I do alot)

Sound: 8.5
Music: 7.5 Klassic Music: 9.5

Online: When I first got the game, Online was laggy as hell. But now, it's not laggy at all. The only time it's laggy is when King Of The Hill mode sometimes. But now, it suffers from Descynchronizations. It's really fun and addicting regardless(unless if you fight scrubs, noobs, spammers etc.)

Score: 9.0

Fun Factor and Replay Value: The Arcade Ladder is fun and awesome, but the Bosses are so frustrating at times you feel like throwing your controller.
The Challenge Tower: There's some fun missions in there, and some are really annoying and frustrating.
Tag Team is a really cool alternative to the Single Battles.

Score: 9.5

OVERALL SCORE: 9.0

I really do love this game. It looks fantastic. Sounds great. And plays like a real fighter should. And it is packed with content. Those game is a mk fanboys dream come true. The only complaint I could have is that thus far online from my experience on xbl too many games desychronize or session ends right before the loading of the fight is done. Kind of annoying and maybe its just the connection of other ppl not being very compatible with mine but it happens a lot. Nonetheless it plays great online from what I can tell.

Didn't feel like going into much details about everything in the game Brut overall it is superb IMO. Honestly I'd say it is one of the best games to come out this Gen of consoles and it is for sire in the race for best fighting game around the park.

I'd score the game a 9.7

The only flaw? Online and DLC

DLC: somtimes its not thereand you get pissed off cus you trained yer arse with that character. instead make a psn/xbl Update WITH the copatability pach or something already in!

Online: Way too many spammers, no-lives (i suprised their ex box still works i mean 30000/20? SEE THE SUNSHINE DRACULA!!! IT WONT KILL YOU!)

King of the hill is laggy, some people go in and beome a living ragdoll... then the local tazmanian devil joins the game then- YOU SUK! MA GET YER CROWN! IM BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

other than that, i love the story, the characters, their combo set and strings, and the bloody and revamped fatalities (espically in rainbow Kombat, then they look like a pinata) 2-3-4 2-3-4 for rainbowgrin
I feel the need to post this:

Gameplay: 9/10
As far as gameplay goes, it's an awesome reboot. The characters have almost all their original attacks(if not more) and they're easy too. The combo system is awesome, as you can mix together several combos and attacks to form your own awesome combo, not just a set of a few hard-to-perform combos that can't be chained together.

Graphics: 10/10
Some of the best graphics I've ever seen in a fighting game. 'Nuff said.

Sound: 8/10
Although some of the sounds aren't timed correctly or aren't loud enough, I think they're pretty decent.

Story:6/10
Although it is pretty nice, it is kind of randomly pulled together, and some scenes don't make any sense, especially one certain scene.
*******SPOILER ALERT*********
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
The Sindel scene. Yeah, I know, no one likes this but it has to be discussed. In this scene, Sindel comes in and kills off half the cast with three punches, then is killed by the half dead Nightwolf, who kills her by commiting suicide. This scene makes no sense. Cyber Sub-Zero being killed by a punch to the face is just retarded. If she dumped water on him, and it fried his circuiting or something i get that. Jax was killed by a kick to the throat. Which also makes no sense. He doesn't bleed to death whith his arms ripped off, but he does with a little cut on his neck? TIS STUPID!!!

Overall: 8.25/10(Above Average, but not a game for everyone)

Well, i had a really long review. But to make it short:

The look is almost flawless even though i liked the blood features in MKDA way better. (Those pins of blood spreading from the bodies and staying under the character's feet to paint the floor as he/she was walking around). That was a great step forward imo. I hate that only the body seems to get covered fully with blood this time (Almost making the character disappear under loads of makeup.) Going back to the 2d and the change of gameplay (Ended up interesting) were both a pain in the ass at first. 7/10

The addition of X-Ray (Slows the pace down) but is awesome none the less. The moving target in practice mode is a necessary feature nowadays imo. The addition of the controls for the fatalities will be a lot of fun for bored people to repeat in practice mode but meh...

That being said the old story, even with the alternate twist sucked. I hated learning a character i could not choose each new chapter and that all with only 3 or 4 fights for each instead of the old Konquest mode in which you would choose to learn a character more deeply and leave the ones you found less interesting behind (DA's Konquest).

I don't remember the name but despise the mode added in which at some point you had to stay at your end of the screen and shoot zombies coming at you over and over. The challenges in which you had to defeat your foe by repeating grabs or special moves. I hated that mode.

The look of the crypt is cool but i unlocked almost everything interesting in an evening. I miss the time i spent unlocking characters and costumes in MKDA and MKD.

For the rest, i had a couple cool matches with an old friend but that's all the fun i've had (2 evenings). Blame me, call me crazy or a sellout but i still love Scorpion and Raiden. Played so much with them along the years that it doesn't mean much fun anymore.

The arcade mode remains although i never liked Shao Kahn's abilities as a boss that much. Did it a couple times.

At least they gave us Kenshi (Again) and Rain as DLC which is a cool thing but overall...

After what happened in armageddon i was affraid for a lot of characters/storylines since the buzz was about who would survive and when i heard about a reboot i was even more affraid. I jumped headfirst in the buzz about bringing the old and classical stuff back though. My mistake.

4.5/10

They can still make some shit better in the future. I really wish MK9 is not telling me that everything after MK3 is being forgotten and left to rot since they had some great stuff pulled out of their hat during the ps2 era that prevented me from getting bored with the franchise.

I'm not going to summarize each of my thoughts in each respective category as I've done that multiple times throughout my posting on this forum. I'll just put a number to each of those opinions.

Graphics: 94/100 - Most beautiful fighter ever made. Period.

Gameplay: 89/100 - Worthy of being called a tournament fighter, but has some apparent flaws.

Online: 69/100 - Strong presentation with weak netcode.

Story: 85/100 - Best story of any fighting game, though there are some glaring inconsistencies.

Replay Value: 100/100 - More quality content than any other fighter ever made. Story Mode is worth playing over a couple times for any MK nut. The game is fun as hell, and there's plenty of content to keep you going.

Overall: 92/100

No game that sets new standards should ever receive lower than a 9. Let alone one that set so many new standards.

Mortal Kombat set a new standard in fighting games for :
Sheer amount of content
Story Mode

You can still change your fighting style with certain characters i.e. Sonya and Liu Kang. She got so skilled after gaining Shang Tsung's powers that Shao Kahn gave to her as a result of general Motaro's death, Hazell.

Dont get me wrong, I love this game. Its by far the best MK theyve ever came out with. But it gets boring really fast...... Me and all my gaming buddies were into it for the first 6-8 months it came out.... I still get on it every now and then just because I like the way tag team combos work.
I think the gameplay is pretty sweet.....

Gameplay - 100/100
Graphics 88/100
Sound 84/100
Menus 91/00

Ideas to make this game better -
DLC - I think they need to bring back some of the older characters (like Reiko, Darius, the wind god... I think his name was Fuji? if you know what it is, get back to me!!)
They also need to make mor
I think they need to bring back more original costumes.... They only have like 8 costumes.....

Gameplay - I like the gameplay... I wish they made it so that you couldnt trap people in the corner... I hate that s@%@. =\ I think they should have made a variety of xrays, too.. it gets boring seeing the same xray everytime. maybe if you hit like LT+RT+A or something your character does another xray.

Im at work right now ill add more later.

It's super late, but I shall post my review now.

Gameplay 9.5/10- The most balanced MK fighter to date, the gameplay is accessible to allow beginners to jump in and have fun. If you're not good at fighters, this game will get you into the groove fairly quickly, preset combo strings are in the move list, easy to read and perform as well as special moves, meaning that you don't have to be a pro player to see some of the cool tricks, but the game also has tools for more skilled players to have some room to show off their skills and there is plenty of opportunity for growth. The gameplay is fluid and fun, not clunky like its 3D predecessors.
Out of box you get 27 playable characters(28 for PS3 with Kratos), all of which play differently, there's a character for everyone: they've got aggressive rushdown characters like Sonya and Liu Kang; alongside slower grapplers like Sheeva and keepaway characters like Noob Saibot and Sindel, there's somebody for everyone.

Story 7/10- The most complete story mode in any fighting game, top notch production values with the in game cutscenes, voice acting, and levels being worked into the story. The downside is something that could have been truly great ends up being brought down by major plot holes, retcons, and other inconsistencies that make the Mortal Kombat lore hard to follow and enjoy. Another problem is the characters chapters, training mode or playing the game is where you learn how to use a character, not story mode. I found these chapters severely limited many iconic battles from being fought and character chapters really restrict story possibilities.

Graphics 10/10- Easily the best presentation of any fighter to date, from the shadow and lighting effects to the blood splatter left on clothing and the fabric textrues of the combatants, every detail is meticulously crafted.

Content- 10/10- Mortal Kombat offers more content than any fighter to day with mini-games like test your might/sight/luck/strike, a 300 mission challenge tower a 5-6 hour , story mode, the krypt with tons of unlockables, two fatalities per character, Nekropolis for stats and character model viewing. This game includes 2 v.s. 2 tag team (many fighters make separate games just to allow you to fight in teams). In addition to the tag team system, you can perform tag combos and tag assists addding a unique level of strategy and depth to the game and most crucial, you can play tag with up 4 friends or family, giving players a multiplayer fighting experience like no other. Replay value is endless.

Online 6/10- One of the major let downs of this game. The presentation might be good, but such poor quality with constant lag, dysynchs, etc. The poor quality held back an online experience that had great things going for it like King of The Hill, Chat rooms, and the ability to go online with a friend and play tag.

Overall 42.5 /50- A good game that newcomers as well as veterans of the series can pick up and enjoy, there are major issues like online and story, arguably some balance problems for some, but the pros outweigh the cons
for this game. If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat, whether you're a serious player or a casual fan, this game will pull you in and keep you busy for a good amount of time with its content.

Well I'm sure I have one or two reviews floating around somewhere but this is the official thread so here it goes.

Graphics- I like the style and grit of everything. However, it still can look a little plasticy (not as bad as MKvsDC), and characters clothes can look stiff. Some of the faces could also use a little work. Overall it still looks nice, and it's holds up next to its competitors. 9/10.

Audio- The sound effects are really good, and it is well acted. Nice to see Dan Forden back. 9/10.

Presentation- It's a love letter to fans of the old. A cast from 1-3 pleases me and they all look pretty damn good. Storymode is good enough for me considering it didn't piss me off, and most fighting games don't have a story. Challenge tower was fun at first but now the novelty has warn off. Test your luck is okay I just don't use it anymore. Tutorial is great for newbies. I love that there is a ton of content, and I think this is an aspect that is overlooked by tournament players and capcom fans. (Looking at you IGN). 9.5/10.

Gameplay- It's brilliant. They took aspect of the 3D MK's and actually made them work. Highly addicting and well balanced. I still have gripes naturally. No hit trades and the use of 3D sprites suck. But the game still works, and it is still fun. I'm still playing this game, and I have only taken about 4 weeks off of it at a time. Also 4 player tag online is the greatest mode ever. 9.5/10.

Overall analysis
This is the best MK of all time. There is no previous roster, story mode, content, or gameplay from past MK's that can top it. Do I want some changes? Hell yes. But this is really good, and I 'm very happy with it.

9.5/10.
