Heh heh, Mortal Kombat, casual appeal.
You obviously didn't play Marvel vs Capcom 3 then.

You're going to have to explain to me how a game with no story mode or bonus content has more casual appeal than MK2011. I guess it did have an arcade mode, but MvC3's arcade experience would have seemed outdated even in 1997.

You wouldn't even have to leave the bounds of this forum to hear casual gamers complain about MvC3.

Mission Accomplished!

MK deserves it and it deserves it much more than all of those other (some good and some disappointing) titles combined. Period. smile

That being said, I am definitely NOT HAPPY with the team taking a break from MK...and even worse, a long one.

Yes yes yes, I'm all for taking the time to create a wonderful and complete sequel, but, I am most certainly NOT happy or excited to wait for more than 2 years for another MK game! Specially not NOW when MK is back on the top and has all this excitement following its name.

Would it really be a wise Move to wait for the sequel? Wouldn't the whole effect MK9 has caused wear off?

And seriously, WTF at the "no more DLC" confirmation. That's lame as hell. Not even extra costumes or classic Fatalities? etc? Seriously Ed? NRS? After all the hype you gave the game and DLC?

And as selfish and as subjective as this sounds, I am honestly not interested in NRS developing a new series of any kind. I personally don't care for anything they do unless its got to do with MK. I'm just not interested and not looking forward to it. its just my personal taste, please don't bite my head off.

Bring on an MK adventure game, please! Take MK to whole new levels!

^^^ I agree with queve. We've been told the movie reboot will be accompanied by the new MK - are we gonna have to wait, again, for the movie now as well? What's with the sudden hiatus from MK from NRS? Perhaps they want to create another game that eventually becomes another franchise of sequels? That'd be great and help NRS prosper as a business - that way if MK has a bad decade again they have another game as their "pick-me-up." And what about the rumors concerning Vitality and that NRS has already been working on MK10? And what happened to MK2011 for the PC and will the Wii ever get a release of sorts?

I hate when NRS doesn't complete things or follow through with their promises. We're not getting any younger year and the damn movie has been in development hell since 1997.

Perhaps they are planning to make a game that resembles MK?

Or perhaps this is just a publicity stunt to get us away from the computers so we don't ruin anything about the game that can lead to leaks and whatnot.

Nevertheless, let the history of the MK franchise stand as such:

1990s: Birth
2000s: Death
2010s: Ressurection

They might have some other smaller projects in the works like that Batman ios game that just came out, but a new Mortal Kombat is probably in the works as well. I think reporters misinterpreted his comment.

From Boon's twitter ;

"NetherRealm has a number of projects in the works. Not JUST Mortal Kombat. :)"

Also agree with queve here. I completely understand taking some time off, but if it's more than 2 years then it's a little late. Granted I would be very happy if they come up with a new IP that's great, but it won't beat my excitement for the next MK.

At this specific moment, taking a break from MK actually seems kind of foolish though doesn't it? Not only is it just coming back into mainstream popularity but the new MK movie is slated for a 2013 release right? That's only two years away. If they get going on MK10 now, it might be ready around the movie release date. Isn't that a big plus in marketing these days?

Either way I do trust what NRS is doing, I just hope their projects hold up and that the next MK game is awesome, adventure or fighting. Hopefully the hiatus is meant for the fighting genre of MK and the project they are working on is an adventure game grin

As for hiatus - I am OK with this. It's better than release unfinished games every year and gives developers enough time to think about what they want in the new game and how they could relize it. Of course I expect MK10 to be an absolute hit, given the circumstances. =

This. As much as the fan boy in me is disappointed that we'll have to wait awhile for the sequel, i think its for the best. But at the same time that doesn't mean they'll be working on it that entire time, especially if they're busy working on other projects, so I guess I still have my worries. Overall I just don't want them to go back to pumping out unfinished shit games every year like deception, Armageddon, MK vs DC (I did enjoy Deception tho, but its gameplay was nowhere near as good as MK9's).

Honestly tho, bugs aside, I'm really not sure how they could improve on the MK9 gameplay other than adding more characters. They did such a fantastic job on it.

And I just thought of this, but god Almighty if we wait 2-3 years before anything MK related comes out and then MK10 comes out alongside the MK movie the hype will be fucking HUGE. It will be the second coming. I'll be right back to being like 8 years old practically salivating at trailers for the first MK movie.

I'm glad MK won.

But, honestly... the VGAs are awful. They have no right to even speak of glorious Mortal Kombat.

King of Fighters XIII was a nominee? Wow. It was only out (on consoles) for a month?

As for a MK hiatus... I can wait. As long as the next Mortal Kombat surpasses 9, I'll be glad. We don't them to rush and start putting out shitty games, do we? :3
Just want to say once again im glad Mortal Kombat won!!! Finally.... and TWO! I'm glad there not really taking a break from MK... but i really hope they fix the storyline. Retcon!!!

I think they deserve a pause from work, they worked real hard putting this game together for us fans, sure i'm hyped with the sequel as any other MK fan is, but remember it takes time, planning and a lot of work to deliver another masterpiece as this game was, so patience my friend. Let's not rush things here, all at it's own given time.
queve Wrote:

I think that the ones directly responsible for making MK such a huge success are THE FANS themselves, we are the ones who shall decide if MK can make it for another 20 years or so, we are the only ones that can make that effect wear off. So as long NRS give us fans what we want, I think we will have MK for a while.
queve Wrote:

I would love to see another MK adventure game such as Shaolin Monks, Ed Boon once talked about MK Fire & Ice, a possible idea for an MK adventure game based on Scorpion & Sub-zero. Sure Sub-zero Mythologies was made, but just imagine you and your friend playing co-op as these two. Remember you could play as them in Shoalin Monks when you unlocked them, and let's not forget Sub-zero's ending in the recent MK9 in which they both join forces and fight side by side.
Any ways I hope the guys at NRS have something special planned for us fans next year when MK is gonna celebrate it's 20th anniversary. Perhaps a new MK TITLE? SEQUEL?

I'm happy for NRS, but two things MUST be said.

1) These are the VGAs. They are not an intelligent judge of good gaming, and the mastermind behind them is straight-up evil. This award means NRS has even more weight in the industry (and is therefore a good thing), but that's about it. The VGA's are not and will never be the final authority on anything.

2) MK2011 was a strong game, but I can't call it a flawless victory. It had some real problems.

If it was, then we need Warner Bros to purchase the Primal Rage IP for the follow-up animality.

Laugh if you like. Doesn't matter. Assume that you're so much smarter than the poor, broken lunatic. Doesn't matter. But think about this: Your a dead thing, same as me. You died and were reborn...as this. What makes you and me different? Simple -- I remember what I saw when I was full and truly dead. You'd be mad too.

Primal Rage is probably the first game I bought by myself as a kid after my brother told me to do so - I just imported it from USA for SNES and the adapter piece made the game playable (PAL SNES cassettes were different). The only bad thing was that nobody was particularly interested in Primal Rage when there were Mortal Kombats so it practically was left to dust in the drawer (fighting games used to rely on multiplayer more back then). I'd be open to give Primal Rage another chance now. Until then...

I wholly disagree with Queve up above. I think the best thing NRS can do right now is dabble in other franchises if they can. Keeps their brand name strong, and hey, more games with that twisted sense of humor only they can offer.

Not to mention, SMASH FUCKING TV.

Soul Calibur comes out every 3 years, and there's nothing late about it.. Greatness takes time.
