My only complaint is that horrible tattoo on Johnny Cage.

I'm personally very excited for this.

Well with all of this talk about this being MK1 - 3 all over again, she might just return. Afterall, what is a hungry emperor without a bride by his side, huh?

Hell if this turns out to be a remix of the old story, she might actually be introduced as evil and get to STAY that way. Screw turning good and all that. She'd be astronomically cooler as Kahn's right-hand subordinate. I'm sure she'd get a lot more things done that way anyway cuz she did shit as Edenia's queen.

And if not playable, I'm sure she'll make some sort of appearance due to all these cameos everywhere.

I don't know whether the fact that MK fans in general can't be pleased is a good thing or a bad thing. Lets touch every aspect in a small rant.

Apparently, not everyone even enjoyed the live-action movie trailer... Look at how many people claimed that people who enjoyed that aren't Mortal Kombat fans. Despicable behavior that caused because it's trying to make Mortal Kombat more "realistic" rather than making things fantasy.

1. MK Reboot - people crying about it being a reboot that adds nothing new story wise or gameplay wise. Yet if things were added and the story was tweaked. People would nitpick those to death because it wasn't what they wanted.

Reboot is something that this series needed. I honestly did not believe that they were going to make a sequel to Armageddon. Really, one person would have been the winner and whatever they chose to do with the power, that's the ending we'd all have to take. And by looking at majority of the endings, no one did anything useful really.

Jerek wanting the best fatality in the world? Come on, if the creators took that ending as the cannon ending for Armageddon, congratulations we got a sucky game! A reboot is fine.

redpath Wrote:
3. People bitch about Armageddon yet will complain if this roster isn't at least 25-30 deep.

The amount of characters that surpasses 15 is too much for a fighting game in my opinion... Too many people want new characters, and someone already mentioned that why add new characters if they're probably going to get tossed after this game? Why? Why add characters when they're not going to be good? We really want this many characters for a fighting game? Uh, I don't think so if majority of them should be new characters, and if they're old characters instead, we'll bitch that our favorites didn't make an appearance, yet this one did.

redpath Wrote:
4. People complain its not gothic enough anymore. Since when did MK always have to be super gothic? If anything now that WB owns it, who knows what the future may hold. If anything I think the fanbase fears it going from a gothic fighter to just a fighter like how Resident Evil fans have been divided because of the horror to action horror the series course took.

Apparently MK2 is considered a "Gothic-like" Mortal Kombat. But to be honest, I don't think anyone knows what "Gothic" means, even I don't that much, all I know is that Goths are basically the kind of people who would like to become a vampire, that's all I know... But I hardly doubt people know the meaning to be honest.

What she said. Emphasis on the "Nightwolf!?!?!?! REALLY!?!?!?" sentiment. That was my reaction. Of all characters...Nightwolf? Not Sindel?
I really have a feeling she will be added. If not immediately but as DLC.
If you think about it (just going off memory), the count for all characters from MK1-UMK3 is only in the mid to upper 20s, which is kind of in line with what the past few MKs have had as a roster size.

Haven't read the other replies when writing this.

This is what we MK fans have waited for... It looks VERY Mortal Kombat 2 like, but with better graphics and smoother gameplay (hopefully).

I must admit, at first I was afraid that it would be an MK2 remake, but then I saw Sektor as a character and my heart was easened. (Edit: Oh, just read that it IS an MK2 remake... D'OH! XD ) And I must admit, I am very excited about this. The whole 3D graphics in 2D gameplay seems to be very popular now, and I think it fits MK very well.

Some people might argue with "they are just copying Street Fighter 4", however, like Street Fighter, the Mortal Kombat series started out 2D and turned into semi-good 3D gameplay. This way they go back to their roots and to me that's a good thing. I love the designs, looking like a mix of the newer designs and the old classic designs.

Now, as a Jade fan, I hope to see her in the game. I know, I know, the chances are minimal, but a boy can hope and dream. I didn't even see Kitana in it, just Mileena (looking incredible btw), but hopefully she will make a return as well. If it were up to me, all characters would return... not because I prefer quantity over quality, but I love to have many characters to select from. I still play Armageddon over MK vs DC just for that reason.

Now I can't wait to see the news from E3!

And to you cynical pessimists out there who think the trailer looks crap: Go play some other game then!

That makes no sense. Sektor wasn't even created until after the events of MK2, if memory serves correctly. With him and Nightwolf so far, AND with the arena on Tsung's island with the old Shang Tsung sitting in the chair, a reboot of MK1-3 seems more likely.

The fact that it's obviously focused around MK1-MK3...I don't think any character in those games has a minimal chance. There will likely be 25-30 characters...not including DLC, so Jade has a 70% chance I'd say. If it truly is only MK1-MK3 characters in this game as it currently looks to be I would assume the roster will be something like this:

9 Confirmed so far:

Sub-Zero
Raiden
Shao Khan
Sektor
Reptile
Nightwolf
Mileena
Johnny Cage
Kung Lao

So if we are to meet the 25-30 range...we need 16-21 more.

Let's go in order of most obvious to least likely in groups of 4 at a time.

Scorpion
Liu Kang
Sonya
Kitana

Puts our total to 13. 12-17 more to go.

Shang Tsung
Jax
Kano
Baraka

Puts our total to 17. 8-13 more to go.

Noob Saibot
Smoke
Kabal
Cyrax

Puts our total to 21. 4-9 more to go.

Stryker
Sindel
Jade
Ermac

That's 25 right there, and I think I'll stop it there. That's most of the people from MK1-MK3 and it's only 25 people, which seems very doable. The only people left are:

Rain
Sheeva
Goro
Motaro
Kintaro

While I could see Rain possibly making it, I don't think any of the others will have more than a 25% chance due to their oddness in player controlled battle. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they are used as sub bosses of some sort.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Quan Chi is on the roster somewhere, and if not he's surely gonna be DLC. I highly doubt they just want to throw away that model they made of him for MKvsDC, plus he fits into that part of the story.

The point of all this was to show you that really there's room for all MK1-MK3 characters save for 5. And of those 5, even though Jade is towards the unlikely side, she has far better chances than those bottom 5.

Just for the record, the leaked casting sheet said the following plot details:

- Shang would start out as an old man then later become younger.

- Jax would get his metal arms DURING the story.

- Jade would be forced to choose between serving Kahn and joining Kitana DURING the story.

- Sektor and Cyrax would become Cyborgs DURING the story.

Given all of these plot points, it couldn't be anything BUT a retelling of all three games, MK 1, 2, and 3.

It's so delicious. How could any fan of that era not want to see all that in cut-scenes etc.? If you got into MK from MK:DA-MK:A I could understand...but c'mon. This IS what we've been asking them for ever since MK4. We wanted cinematic endings...well now we're gettin the whole damn thing.

As long as they don't butcher the story and turn it into a convoluted mess it'd be fun to see.Though If Shaolin Monks is any indication this could be bad.

Some people just can't enjoy a story if they already know who it ends. It's kind of a shame, but I understand it.

For the rest of us, this game is gonna be sweet.
Santar Wrote:

Shaolin Monks' script was written by a freelancer. This time, Vogel's doing it. He's the guy who wrote DA and Deception. I know some people think Tobias was better and the series is lost without him or something, but I've never agreed with that. I trust him completely. He's never let me down yet when they actually let him do his job.

If that's the case then, could we possibly (hopefully) see a story-mode where you play through and fight a few matches, then see a cinematic, fight more matches, another cinematic, ext ext. If not, they're running out of excuses and can't use the it's too expensive as they've had plenty of time and work for a cash cow now.

I agree ProfesserAhnka , what would be the point in retelling old stories? If new MK fans just started with Deadly Alliance , Deception, or whatever its no loss to them, because the story of past games wouldn't be a factor when dealing with *NEW* storylines . That is why retelling old storylines would be boring and redundant.

I am not bashing your ideas blackcyborg, but at what point does cinematic endings or even storylines from OLD games factor in when making an all NEW MK that progessing the series in post Armageddon?

At what point does retelling Sub-Zero MK1 - MK4 storyline in a cinematic experiance become better in telling a new direction for Sub-Zero post Armageddon, that in general has nothing to do with Sub-Zero past in dealing with Scorpion. Keep the history, but progress the story .

Armageddon was such a mess. I wouldn't at all be surprised if MK9 started as a post-Armageddon game and was quickly scrapped because I honestly don't think they can continue coming up with quirky ways for characters to "survive" anymore.

Re-telling is just a simple way of re-tooling to make up for past mistakes story-wise and a perfect opportunity to take the game back to its core roots and not muck it all up in the process.

What possibly could help the plot, if this is a retelling, is that they focus on the preexisting story (each from their respective games, non-retconned...perhaps Cage's death can be nullified) and instead on changing the WHAT (events) in the plot, they change the HOW (like a non-half-assed explanation for Subs scar, etc.)

Fundamentally the same story, but with different turning points.

Hey now, don't put words in my mouth. I said how could any fan of that era not like this? Never said you weren't a fan. lol I'm not Mick, SubZero, or Razor, I don't determine ones fandom for having different taste. With that said, it's still a mystery why anyone wouldn't just be drooling at the thought of the "ultimate classic MK game" this appears to be with the 2D and MK1-MK3 retelling.
