When Quan Chi hired Sub-Zero to go after the Map of the Elements,the way he paid the Lin Kuei back for their services was by slaughtering their rival assassin clan.

As as I recall,he even brings back the bones of the Shirai Ryu founder Takeda,which I always assumed must've been some kind of holy relic to his clan,as proof of this.

They didn't retcon anything. Even if they did,how does it undermine anything?

No, they were all killed before MK1 started. It was revealed at MK4 that Quan did the clan and family.

Scorpion's ending in MK1 reads : Marked for death years ago by the Lin Kuei, Scorpion was murdered by Sub-Zero. He left behind a wife and child in his former life but was allowed to return and avenge his death.
Even with Scorpion's triumph in the Tournament and new title as Grand Champion, the price he paid was high. He can never again know his family and must exist forever with his secret curse.

His family was alive by the end of MK1... so Quan Chi killed them afterwards.


Also, by retcon I mean how now they say Quan Chi resurrected him in MK1... its a hell of a lot more badass when his pure, raw hunger for revange drives him to come back.

Mythologies is when Quan Chi killed the Shirai Ryu. He confirms it in the very first FMV in the game.

And we know for a fact that Mythologies is set two whole years before MK1.

That's canon. Scorpion's MK1 ending is not.
And it was NEVER canon before that Scorpion made himself come back from the dead. The games never told us how it happened before they introduced Quan Chi, while comics and other peripheral media always said he did it by making a deal with demons or the gods.
It wouldn't even make sense if Scorpion could just WILL himself to become a spectre, because then why doesn't everybody who goes to Hell just do that and leave? No, it's ALWAYS been an assumed part of Scorpion's story that some higher power LET him come back from the dead.

Exactly... especially since then by the same logic, he could just will himself to a restful passing once he's had his revenge.

As stated in my long post on page 1, Scorpion has been seen in more media outside of Mortal Kombat, where-as Sub Zero has not. The post above was worded in a similar sense in that I said Scorpion is the "most recognized MK character" to the general public, not just MK fans.

So from a marketing point of view it makes complete sense that Scorpion is the face of the franchise, even if Liu Kang is supposed to be the champion of the series (at least early on), and Sub Zero is the most popular with fans (on a particular website).

That poll you linked me to will MOSTLY consist of MK fans, and the rest being made up of other gamers. My comment was aimed at the general world-wide population.

Also note that in my orignal post I mentinoed that all the polls I personally have seen Scorpion has won. So until we can get every single MK fan to vote, there is no way of telling who is the most popular due to the fact that more SZ fans may hang around on a particular website than Scorpion fans.

I must say, that was an awesome Scorpion presentation. They need to have this shit in a "Gallery" mode for THIS game.

it was for the original mk chars from the original game. of course sub is almost every ones fav from the original chars. hes the one that got the most attention by the media for the spine rip and the one ppl remember most, bc of that.

if it was for your fav character of all time, it would be a different story. just look at the poll tht was up at tmk. that had EVERY mk char listed. scorpion topped all others.

they arent trying to make scorpion the face of mk, i dono if youv noticed but since mkt, scorpion is usually the first char shown on all the mags, released renders, etc. the big 3 are scorpion, subzero and raiden.(which egm NAILED) they are the icons of mk.
