Pride
Not to wax nostalgic, but is anyone else here feeling really proud of MK? I assume we're all here because Mortal Kombat means something special to us as individuals. It's just so nice to see almost everyone on board with a new MK game.
The first video game I ever got was Mortal Kombat II, and I knew absolutely nothing about it. It was a gift. This started what has turned out to be a life long commitment, complete with ups and many downs. For the first time I can remember, people are celebrating this great franchise rather than complaining or nay-saying. For once it feels like MK will be back to being a pleasure, rather than a guilty pleasure.
Anyone else feeling really excited about that?

I think the gameplay looks great, but no, I'm not proud of them for doing a story that has been done to death.

Give the man some DP for this thread.
Mortal Kombat is a legend, enough said. Fuck Street Fighter, Fuck Tekken, Fuck Virtua Fighter. None of those games will ever come close to Mortal Kombat.

I need a new sig, something with Kabal from UMK3 would be sweet. Just imagine that here

Dude, Hell to the YEAH!
Im proud that Mk is getting so much positive feedback finally, its long overdue. yet this is just for a preview of the game, the final game has to meet expectations when its released next year or all these good vibrations are good for nothing.

Yup. MK is the only game, for some reason I cannot explain that when a new one comes out I follow it, watch shit. I tell people about it all the time and I get to hyped up for it. No fighter can do that to me. I grew up with MK2 and on. And this game looks to be the best game of 2011 for me. Fuck thats so long away...

I'm proud. I stopped logging on to this site roughly 3 or 4 years ago until now. in fact, i cant even remember my password for my old account and thus had to make this one. Thats how excited I am to be seeing this game go back in the direction it should have been taken in the whole time. back to its roots, back to the way that made it famous. I'm very proud as a fan AND I'm looking forward to the story line this time around. Show the MK team some love. They actually listen to us. People think they don't, but they do. This game was made FOR US!

Same situation here. Had to create a new account to post this, but I felt it needed to be said. And absolutely, I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the MK team. I'm just glad they have WB now backing them up, with the resources that they deserve.
I can't say that I'm proud of this game, not just yet. That moment'll come when it's out and I see 9+ scores across the board, from reviewers, fans both long-term and casual, and have hardcore fighting gamers finally say "This game is tournament worthy". If I see this thing at Evo, I'll burst with pride. At the moment, what I am is glad to see an MK game in development that has less of a cash cow look about it, and more of a game designed with heart and effort.
But I can safely say that MK is a series that's going on a 20-year run, that's been down but not out, with legions and legions of devoted fans, and even with its flaws - and there have been many over the ages - it keeps coming back. It has the staying power. Its world keeps getting bigger. And all of that combined is something I'm proud to be a fan of.

I had the same issue with my account. I was The_One_and_Only_Johnny_Cage before I THINK I know my password, but I thoguht I might as well make a new one anyway.
But yeah the game's come a long way over the years, I remember livin' next door to an arcade when I was like 12 or 13 and seein' the first one hit there. Talk about lines. I think something special SHOULD be done to celebrate it when it's 20 years old. Like what they do for the star wars flicks, how they have celebrations. Maybe not every year like that (I think they should but I doubt it would) but every milestone like 20 or 25 and so on

I'm very proud of the MK team. They could have killed 17 years of progress with a reboot, but instead they made a sequel that satisfied all parties. If I had to see Ultimate Extreme Subzero fighting re-imagined Uber Kano, I think I would have to hurt someone.

I appreciate and love every MK that comes out. Call it my Fanatic Fanboy Mentality. Previous games did suffer because of the Lack of Labor / Inexperience directed at the games. I know this. And as a Fan I can't ignore the flaws those games suffered. But if you're like me and Get goose bumps even to the slightest bit of media, whether it be a Screenshot, a Render, an Announcement of some sorts etc... Even tedious tidbits get me in a state of excitement that at times become an obsession. Staying up countless hours through the day/night sitting on MKO, even though you find yourself all alone on the site praying for the slightest bit of news to break. If you can maintain all this, without making it a chore. You know you're a FANBOY. I, am an MK Fanboy. My friend Chris & I, are Inseparable MK fanboys & Will always be.
Now...
The new MK looks amazing, as did it's predecessors for their time. I'm very pleased of the move back to 2D. With my recent involvement with Super Street Fighter 4. This is right down my alley. It took me awhile to adjust to the transition of being a threat competitively on a 2D scale and now that I broke myself in. I can prep myself for even more 2D goodness come next year. The direction and approach they took with this game will reward them greatly come release. ED has done justice yet again, serving the community's of dedicated fans with retro in depth next generation goodness. I couldn't be more pleased.

Completely agreed. It was a very wise move. I remember when they were talking about starting over with a minimal amount of classic characters. It felt wrong, but at the same time the storyline up to Armageddon had become so convoluted that it was almost as if they had no choice. What they're doing is really the best of both worlds. They're working that convoluted mess into a new story, and its allowing them to fix what went wrong.

I could go on and on about MK and how much I've loved this franchise since its inception just like everybody else on here. Yeah I'm glad to see it back , but I've always been proud to call myself an MK fan.
The reason I've always been proud is because I was never a fan-boy, just a hardcore fan. There is a difference.
This MK looks to be the MK that MK should have always been. Taking itself serious and coming correct. People are bitching about the new story direction, with only fumes and vapors to stand on I might ad, but the atmosphere and realism has blown me away. Its the direction I've wanted to see, but never thought I'd get, for years.
MK3 with its 3 rib-cages per person was bullsh!t. MK4 was crap. DA was stiff. MKD was broken (my fav regardless though). MKA was unfinished. And Mk vs DCU...umm...moving on.
Anyway, MK 2011 LOOKS to be a step in the right direction, but we'll have to wait for the final product and see how everything comes together to be sure.

I've never been as excited for a game before, so I admit I have some MK fan pride. We finally got listened too, Boon has shown his goodness has returned.

I haven't logged in for over 2 years but this game puts a new sense of enjoyment in being a mk fan
Being a movie goer, one thing I always look for is an enticing story. To date, no other fighter has been on par with the writing of the mortal kombat franchise. Street Fighter, DOA, Tekken, whatever, they fail in comparison. The only thing that makes this game so much better is that it has the gameplay to compliment the staggering story
