Reiko as DLC? Here is a good reason why.

First off, he is probably the only character from the 3D era that I really like so I'm biased. having said that:

People are calling for playable bosses all the time. I love Shao Kahn in this game and he has some awesome moves, but I really don't think he would translate well to a playable character. Balance will be way too difficult to achieve and he will prob be banned from any competitive play. This is where Reiko comes in. He is basically Shao Kahn junior. His moveset can be made similair to that of Shao Kahn (at least visually) but he comes in a smaller body and moves and jumps around like the rest of the cast so gameplay would be awesome. Also he was mentioned in Story mode I believe.

My two cents.

Reiko only has one move of Kahn's and didn't have it until Armageddon.

And I like his original moves, he had one of the more unique and useful movesets in both the games he was in. I wouldn't want to see them changed, except maybe alter the teleport to make it different from Noob's...but only slightly, the way Smoke's is slightly different from Scorpion's now.

I wouldn't mind Reiko at all, he's my favorite villain if we don't count Ermac as one. Loved playing with him in MK4 and MKA and I loved his design in MKA.

However, now that I'm reading that these DLC characters are pretty much mute, have no alternate costume and have no stats in Nekropolis, I'm not sure if I'd like a treatment like that for the characters I like.

I do expect both, Reiko and Fujin in MK:X though.

... ... ...

Speaking of the bosses, considering they can't jump and are slow as hell, I'm not sure they'd be superior over regular characters on competitive level. After all, for me the boss characters (except for Shang who's a regular as well) are the easiest to beat in this game.

Why can't they make boss characters behave like normal characters- meaning make them able to jump (for phucks sake), dash, use breakers etc. Make their moves 1.25 - 1.5 x more damaging than normal characters' moves and give them more health (150% - 200%). Now remove that cheap hyper armor $hit and you have powerful and hard to beat boss characters that are not predictable and are actually enjoyable to fight against.

Poor Kintaro, THE SOURCE of my flawless victories (on expert). That stomp of his is by far the best suicide move in the entire game.

I like Reiko. He is one of the few post UMK3 character I do like and I was totally pwning friend's left and right with him on MKA to the point many of my friends wouldn't play with me if I chose him. That being said I'd much rather have the real Shao Kahn as DLC than Reiko as a substitute.

As cool as it would be seeing Reiko, I really doubt he or Fujin will be the 4th DLC character. It wouldn't make sense keeping it such a secret to just have it be someone like Fujin or Reiko who we've all seen before and know everything about.

I do count on seeing them both in MK: X though.

I do like Reiko aswell, and agree that the 4th figure could be either him or Fujin. Reiko would make a bit more sense since he has a relation with Shao Kahn army and Fujin doesn't have too much to say on this story, but he has the uperhand on design as he has a redesign already made on Kratos ending.

As Razor said, I would like the return of his moves with a small change on the teleport like Smoke-Ermac-Scorpion teleport.

Reiko!

He is my favourite male character of mortal Kombat of all times. I would LOVE to see him become a DLC for this new Mortal Kombat to see his true gameplay potential like all the other characters in this game have shown.

Story wise, Reiko is at this point a member of the Brotherhood of the Shadows, preparing for Shinnok's coming. However, we know that he was once part of Shao Kahn's army, a ruthless warrior who apparently died in battle. My theory is that he was part of the war against Edenia before Shao Kahn managed to win Mortal Kombat and merge the realm with Outworld, but Reiko sadly lost and died to one of Edenia's warriors. His soul was then reborn in the Netherrealm and Shinnok or Quan Chi noticed his potential and recruited him into the Brotherhood of the Shadows.

If Quan Chi can run around everywhere else than the Netherrealm, then so can Reiko. He could possibly be sent out to recruit new people to the Brotherhood, maybe sent along to kill some powerful warriors so Quan Chi can enslave their souls. Either way, should Reiko become DLC, I hope we learn alot more about this mystical warrior.

Special moves wise I would like to see his Armageddon moves updated and included into his gameplay. I have only one problem with this... Cyrax STOLE one of his moves! The spinning flip kick Cyrax can do - that was one of Reiko's original moves from MK4! It's a cool move and I think it fits Cyrax, but this means that either Reiko must get a new special move or the move must be re-invented for Reiko so there won't be two characters sharing the exact same move. NRS re-invented Jade's Shadow Kick and Sonya's Square Wave Punch was replaced with the super cool Arc Kick, so I am sure Reiko can get the same treatment. His Teleport Throw is the same as Noob's, so NRS needs to re-invent this move as well.

His projectile move is the Shuriken Throw. In MK4 he threw a whole lot of them at once against the opponent while in Armageddon he threw a flurry of them instead. I actually like his Armageddon version of it better, so I hope he will keep that. In MK4 he had a Circle Teleport move which wasn't really a teleport, but more him spinning around the opponent in a very quick manner, ending up behind him/her. In Armageddon, Hotaru got a version of this same move, but I think Reiko should get it back. Also, in Armageddon had the Headbutt Helmet move where a helmet resembling Shao Kahn's appears on Reiko's head when he bashes his head into the opponent. I quite liked that move, as it connected him to Shao Kahn and the whole ridiculous rumour about Reiko and Kahn being the same person. XD

Appearance wise, I liked his Armageddon look the best. The undercut ponytail hairstyle is so cool and I want him to keep that, instead of the boring hairstyle he had in MK4. Also, his outfit was alot more original in Armageddon than in MK4 which was basically a maroon palette swap of Sub-Zero's outfit, though with spikes on his armguards. I won't mind if they had that as his alternate outfit, but his main outfit should definately resemble his Armageddon look.

VOTE FOR REIKO AS DLC!!!

No to the Reiko/Kahn thing. No to Reiko. I like Reiko, but I hope its someone that's worth paying $5.00.

Besides, Cyborg Sub-Zero has his soul now, we could hope for Cyborg Sub-Kahn in the future. grin

I'm kinda hoping its that woman in Jade's ending. She looks really awesome, something I've never seen before in this game...

To be honest, I don't think Reiko would be DLC because he wouldn't be much of a shocking surprise. And he should be MK10 instead because he'll probably have a bigger role and explain why he has such a deep hatred for Quan Chi

I don't like Reiko. They did something great with him in MKA, but it wasnt enough for me to like him. In my point of view Fujin is a better choice.

The mystery fighter will be either Cyber-Smoke, Tanya or Fujin..... and that's it. And I'm leaning more towards Smoke being the most likely to be the case.

Cyber-Smoke - The only MK1-3 character now NOT represented, and with the timeline shift as it is and Sub-Zero being converted instead of Smoke, Cyber-Smoke simply will not be in MK10 or beyond, so this would be his last chance for an appearance, canonical or not. Besides, that would balance out the number of cyborgs in the game to a nice and even four. And this would also be reason to keep who it is a mystery so late; to make his announcement that much bigger.

Tanya - Like Skarlet, her model is already in the game (as a replacement in Khan's Arena for Kitana). Outside of the story itself (where anything can be done), I do believe she's the only one who has this going for them. And no, the tiny people fighting in the background of the stages don't count; they're simply too small to be fleshed out enough. It may not be much, but it's still something.

Fujin - There was a DLC leak video a while back where, although it was just a generic model used, in the character selection, the announcer specifically names Fujin. Like Tanya, it's not much, but it's still something. Since these four characters will undoubtedly NOT be the last DLC fighters we see, it's quite possible his name being done would be a sign that eventually he will be released. Remember, these types of DLC leaks are how we first saw Skarlet's fatality (as unpolished as it was), her alternate that for whatever reason wasn't included, as well as our first view of klassic Cyrax and Sektor.

The ONLY thing going for Reiko, as people will say, is he was mentioned ever so briefly in the story. But then, so were other characters (or seen in the background). And as I said before, in the story, anything can be said or done so easily. So yeah.... it'll be one of those three, for the reasons I say. And I'm still leaning more towards it being Cyber-Smoke.

so it could only be them because you say so? and reiko has more reasons than you listed for smoke. besides, if they eventually add dlc chapters, reiko versus kenshi could very well happen

Last chance for Cyber-Smoke ever vs a substitute for playable bosses, which would require just as much work as actually making the bosses playable (which would then be three characters instead of just one)? Not seeing any other reasoning behind him being mentioned here. Besides, based on the attitude of Boon in his various tweets, NRS either hasn't realized they can (or simply doesn't want to) add any actual gameplay elements to the game via DLC. Just as the Challenge Tower won't be expanded and new gameplay modes or brutalities/friendships won't be added, we won't be getting new story chapters either.

And this is 100% logic that says it'll be one of those three. Personally, I'd rather it be Frost. But simple logic says she will not be the mystery fighter. It's not me saying that. Just think about it.

reiko could be made as a way to help set up for the next game, something that a non canon smoke clone can't do. besides, why do we need another smoke? we don't need another cyborg running around, we already have 3 of them.

and I'm pretty sure nrs is smart enough to add dlc chapters. waiting for the dlc characters to be released before they make a story chapter for them seems to make sense don't you think?
