Seeing as he is a background character, are we ruling him out as playable? Because he is pretty much the best character of the MK4-MKA era and it'd be a damn shame if he wasn't in

Well...DLC options could be popularity based, giving him a pretty good shot...

I saw all the other background characters (Sareena, Daegon, Reiko, Li Mei, etc) but I have failed to see Kenshi. At what point in the trailer is he in there?

It's impossible to tell nine months before the games released. I wouldn't rule out anything. However, it wouldn't surprise me if the team wanted to stick with classic (1-3) characters in the roster.

Sareena has black hair with a white stripe. She's not in the video. You're probably thinking of Kira, the redhead.
Anyway, Kenshi can be spotted in the background of one of the Pit II scenes. The first time you see the people fighting in the back, it's him, the second time, it's Daegon and Reiko.

1. Ah, yes that is Kira, my bad.
2. Ah, yes, I see him now. Thank you

They really hope they don't just rehash MK1- 3. I want to see some new faces.

Quan Chi is a given in some form or another. He was in Shaolin Monks and he wasn't even in MKII

I thought Quan Chi was on the bridge but it turned out to be Reiko. So im still hoping we see Quan. My guess is that we wont be seeing any of these backgroun d characters. Daegon, Kira, Reiko, Kenshi arent looking good. this is a farmilliar concept. Dark prison form MKD did the same thing.

I would also think that WB sees the DLC potential in this game. With the MK team creatively already planning DLC packs for MKDC, it just seems like the most logical step. Id expect MK9's roster to be much bigger than what we think, that is if they do multiple DLC packages.

Sorcery pack- Shang, Quan, Ermac
Technical Pack- Cyrax, Smoke, Kano
Royal Pack- Sindel, Rain, Jade
Chaos pack- Kabal, Stryker, Baraka
Yin Yang pack- Liu Kang, Noob Saibot, Brother Sub-zero

oh just immagine...

I agree it would be a shame for him not to be in, because he is my favorite post-MK4 character. I'm assuming, though, that they are going to throw in Ermac. As much as I love both characters, having two telekenesis-based characters is a bit redundant.

If this game does take place in the MK1-MK3 era as it is rumored to be, maybe for DLC we can see Kenshi before he went blind and learned his telekenetics.

Shang blinded Kenshi before MK1, so unless they were going to do prequel stories too (which I doubt because then they'd have to add stages and characters from Mythologies), it wouldn't really fit the game.

I don't agree that having both Kenshi and Ermac has to be redundant either. Just give Ermac all the slam moves, then give Kenshi some moves that only he can do, like some Deathstroke-style sword attacks and the punch-punch-kick projectile. That way they play completely different even though their powers both come from the same source.

Kenshi and Quan Chi as DLC I can see because they have long-standing fueds and ties to characters from MK1-MK3.

No Kenshi. No Sareena. No Drahmin. No Nitara. No Ashrah. No Havik. No Hotaru. No Li Mei. No characters I might actually care about.

But hey....we got Johnny Cage! He has a tattoo on his chest! That makes him cool now! Right?

Right..?

Fuck...I'd even take Kobra at this point....

I hear you.

To say I am conflicted by MK is an understatement. I mean, I literally haven't seen anyone who might be worth a damn character-wise....

It's looking that way. Given MK2 and MKD, it's unlikely Kenshi, Reiko and the rest will be playable. There's still time for that to change so you never know. Cyax did become the exception to the rule given that he was stuck in Jade's Desert yet he was playable. We'll just have to wait and see what happens though all signs aat the moment point to this being an MK1-MK3 playable cast only.

Oh I see you what you did there.

To elaborate, many of the characters can be somehow made managable without resorting to what they did in MK4 and MKA. I personally find the cast mostly redundant.

But I haven't seen for example seidans, obviously and I won't expect them further. Those were kinda nice design-wise. And they didn't fall into the GOOD VS EVULZ that is almost propagated from everywhere.

Remember MK1? Cleanly MK1? The only person who had noble goals were Liu. Perhaps Sonya if Kano is indeed that much of a scumbag.

Well, I just hope when we get a true MKA sequel, Kenshi will be one of the characters returning. But I doubt he'll be playable in this one, which tbh is looking to be some kind of remake anyway.

We'll just have to wait and see.

If this is a remake of the first three MK games than they should probably wait until the next game before introducing characters like Quan Chi and such. No need to jump the gun and fill the cast with too many characters.

No disrespect, but I seriously had no idea Drahmin, Havik, and Hotaru had fans. Especially Drahmin...last I remember he was universally hated, just not as bad as Hsu Hao.

I guess I can't sympathize with your cause because except for Kenshi, and maybe Nitara (vampire titties), it's like seeing somebody mad because Omega Red didn't get into MvC 3.

Drahmin has fans, there's just not many of us.

I think it was the annoying flies buzzing all around him and the terrible no-combos moves list he had in DA that were what turned everybody off to him. People were originally very excited to find out more about him during the early days of DA's marketing, when the original concept art was released of his design and backstory with all those sketches of him being tortured in the Netherealm. Those were incredibly cool and with a little refinement, he could be an awesome character.
