The Golden Question: Is this the greatest Mortal Kombat of all time?

Why is there always someone who thinks that when people are talking about 2d or 3d in a fighting game we mean the graphics? No one cares about the graphics.
But anywho's...yes, MK9 is the best and it's not close. And the true 3d MK's were awful.

I care about the graphics. It is also the best in that department as well. ^^

I'd say it is technically, but Deadly Alliance remains my favourite. My problems with MK9 are more from the creative side than actual gameplay complaints.

I think that anyone that says this is not the greatest MK game is either retarded, drunk/high, speaking before thinking about all aspects, or is just trying to be different or trying to be an a$$. This game obviously offered almost everything plus a lot more, yeah no Chameleons/Motaro and a weird inclusion of a Cyber-form of Sub Zero, but hey it was pretty freakin epic regardless.
I'm scared actually for a sequel, I'd hate to see it fail compared to MK9, we usually don't get 2 or even 3 good ones back-to-back.
Best in MK9 compared to others (Overall):
Fatalities
Babalities
Gameplay
Combo System
Sound
Graphics
Stages
BEST Guest Character EVER: Freddy Freaking Krueger (way better than Akuma in X-Men Children Of The Atom)

Opinions,opinions...
Hm... In a way.
I think there were several poor creative decisions but it's definitely the best gameplay in the series. Other than the backgrounds, which are great, I think most of the art direction/story/designs/whatever range from okay to downright terrible. That's not to say this is the only MK that those aren't very good in though... So it's probably still at the top of the pack.. I enjoyed Deception and MK2-3 more though.

Cool, I'm either a retard, drunk/high, speaking before thinking about all aspects, being different, or trying to be an ass for thinking that MK2 still remains as my favorite MK game of all time.
Awesome. Hope you do realize there's something called "opinions" that everyone's entitled to... Not to just agree to your two-cents about the game.
For me, MK2011 is just a rank below MK2... There were just a few things that bothered me in this game.

100% YES!! for me, MK9 is everything I ever dreamed of in an MK game- epic story mode/gruesome Fatalities/flawless graphics/2.5D gameplay!!! the character roster is perfect/ characters have more life and individuality than ever before/ plays excellent etc

Gameplay-wise, sure.
But I still think either DA or Deception was better in terms of total package: story, krypt content, etc.

Sorry, I have really bad mood swings lol, k I ran out of alcohol, I shouldn't judge like that my bad. I loved MK2, but I can't say the gameplay/graphics/gore compare to this new version. I just played MK2 after playing MK9 and was like screw this I'll never play it again after being spoilled. MKDA was worse than any other game IMO, it was blocky horrible character designs besides Nitara or Frost (LOL Sub Zero/Shredder) the air-combat completely sucked and the combos were horrible. Now MKD had the BEST Konquest Mode and IMO even beat MKMS, MKSM, and even Armaggedon's Konquest Mode without a doubt, I still love that floating treasure glitch, things like that really win me.

Sounds like there are three different camps here. From gameplay purists and blood and gore lovers, this is the greatest ever. For nostalgia folks, nothing is going to top MK2 or 3. And for the fans of the MK lore, this might be the worst MK.

I'm a fan of MK lore and I think this is the best so far. I am not saying it is perfect, but I still think it is the best.

Well, I have to say no. My favorite one was Shaolin Monks. This is my second favorite, beating MK2.
MK9-Best gameplay
MK2- Best story
MKSM- Most fun.

I will admit that I didn't like some of the changes that were made (and we can all agree that there were some things in MK9's story that just didn't make sense).
However, that being said...
I will say that, for me, MK9 is the best MK to come along so far. Mainly due to it's game play. Also, I do like some of the character redesigns. I really love Skarlet too. I'm glad they decided to make her an actual MK character. I hope that they keep her in the on-going series.

Well, after looking at it, I think I am really convinced that it is the best that it could be. Given the pressure they were in, one should have expected that they will try to keep the characters intact and bring them back using any way. Thing is , I hated MK1-3 stories, (not hated but I don't like em as much as the later games) so I assume that the story will cover up in the coming games if they changed the structure of the story mode from team based into solo. You can't find a scene in MK9 where a single character is represented in a solo way, the story has been nothing but a more mature Power Rangers. Look at DA/D/A stories, they have more mythologies, more sense of creepiness and just a more mature script.
The story mode should be dropped for an MKD/A Konquest mode and the characters endings should return to the old style where you actually see what happens to the character instead of what if he finished th boss.

UMK3 is better than MK9 simply because of the devastation its caused and still causing...
It introduced Noob to me.
Yeah, MK9 damn near perfected Noob, but you cant forget where he was used the most.
Aaaaaaaaand, MK9 recyled the Kombat Code System, which was better a long time ago when I used to check random things that werent even related to MK for a code.
It was 2011, why couldnt they just make a new code system?
But Jaded-Raven is right: There is no golden question.
Because as soon as the next MK game comes out, you people will jump on the "favorite game" bandwagon once more.
I really respect those that keep the classic games of MK close to them.
Dont take this post as a diss to MK9.
I'll end this by saying:
