To be honest, I actually enjoyed this game's story very much, unlike a heck of a lot of people. How they did this was an interesting one and cannot wait for the next game. There are some flaws I found with the story, but they're hardly anything that would make a difference if I stated them. In my opinion, I wouldn't want an actual reboot. This was just fine.

Going through the story mode again, I have to say that I do have more of an appreciation for it than before. There are a number of things I like about the story mode and certain story elements in general such as Sektor being the son of the Lin Kuei Grandmaster. I don't particularly mind characters like Nightwolf being in Shang Tsung's tournament during the MK1 timeline, and I like what they did with characters like him, Stryker, and Johnny Cage.

Having said that, the story is still a disaster, because it centers around an Idiot Plot. The story has MANY problems, some worse than others. Even if someone likes the story mode overall, the story is still that of an Idiot Plot, and unfortunately, it has been a recurring theme in MK's stories since MK: Deception. There is a lack of cleverness in the storytelling which is in contrast to what we got in MK: Deadly Alliance.

Although I would have liked to have seen a continuation of the story after Armageddon, it does make more sense to do a reboot. I don't understand why NRS didn't just do a full reboot story that does a better job exploring the characters and telling the story in a more interesting way. I don't know...I just think that the mentality for the storytelling needs to change to be more invested in it.

I can't wait to see where this new timeline takes us!

While the story was TOLD well, it was not WRITTEN that well.

Also, so far there has been no progress in preventing Armageddon, Raiden had visions, everybody died. None the smarter and Shinnok can twirl his mustache and cacle.

Yes, it should have went with the Legacy idea of reinventing everything from the core up and keeping only the barest minimum for recognizing the recognizable.

I agree that the story should have been a reboot... Acting and the characters were great. Its was the plot that was just crap.

Yeah, I agree with the story being told well. NRS did do a good job with the overall presentation. When thinking about it from the perspective of fighting games, the story mode is impressive. I would think that eliminating Quan Chi would have solved A LOT of the core problems. This is referring to both the old and the new timelines.

After watching literally everything to do with Mk such as mk1, mk2, mk3, mk4, Mk da, Mk d, Mk armageddon, Mk mythology subzero, Mk shaolin monks, Mk special forces, Mk the journey begins, Mk defenders of the realm, Mk the journey begins, Mk konquest tv show, mk9, Mk bs dc, igau. Mk legacy season 1. I have to say mk9 story was done well. You would be surprised how good it is compared to all those old things to do with Mk. It helped Mk and made it what it is. The only thing i didn't get a chance to watch was Mk 1 movie (1995) and Mk 2 movie (1997).

They could have also just told the story right, because they never have. Every single adaption of the Mortal Kombat story feels the need to change details, add, or remove elements of the story and this game was no different. For a good example of how the Mortal Kombat story should be told look here: http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?id=142498

This game hindered itself by sticking to the chapter system implemented by MKvsDC. Because of this the heroes win nearly every single fight while the villains look about as threatening as a Saturday morning cartoon villain. If they wanted the villains to save face they could have let them win more often, had the villains still fighting in a cut-scene after the battle, or needing two good guys to defeat them. But they let the villains get punked out repeatedly and their attempt at making things right was letting Sindel alone kill of nearly all the Earthrealm heroes.

For the record, a rundown of the villains and what they do:
Reptile - Is easily defeated in every single fight.
Goro - Is defeated in every single fight, even when he has back up.
Shang Tsung - loses every single fight, gets killed off by Shao Kahn to boost Sindel.
Ermac - Wins against Jax and Johnny Cage, loses to all other opponents.
Mileena - Never wins a fight.
Cyrax - Never wins a fight after becoming a cyborg.
Noob Saibot - Loses in every single fight.
Sektor - Never wins, ever. Has the highest loss count in all of Story Mode.
Kano - Bests a weakened Sonya, loses all other fights.
Baraka - Loses constantly.
Sheeva - Loses all the time.
Quan Chi - Loses all his fights, but is revealed to have been behind everything (crap)
Sindel - Single handedly kills Sub Zero, Kitana, Jade, Smoke, Jax, Stryker, and Kabal. (Horseshit)
Kintaro - Loses all of his fights
Shao Kahn - Kills Kung Lao from behind, kills shaolin Monk #6, Knocks out Sonya and Cage, loses all his fights.

The game also vastly simplified things by making everybody good or evil. There were no truly neutral characters like Scorpion was in the past. That's not even getting into other things like Goro being incredibly unimportant, Mileena being a newly made creation, Sub Zero turning into a Cyborg, and other Horrible story changes. I would just like to see the story told as John Tobias originally wrote it, with minor changes here and there.

Judging from Legacy, the new Mortal Kombat movie will also make changes to keep things "fresh". Oh joy! furious
