I really think this will all be stuff you can unlock during the game no matter where you buy it, just these codes let you unlock it early the same way Marve UA2 did back when it came out. They had codes if you pre ordered at different stores that let you unlock characters that you'd otherwise would have had to wait for. If they really did just make these things for these stores only then it'd be really stupid because they are making their customers feel like they aren't getting the complete game no matter where they buy it from, I really doubt that's what they are doing though.

I think the best way would be to have the store exclusive kodes for pre orders but have the kollectors edition come with all three skins. I remember back when GOW3 came out on ps3, in the US each retailer got one code with the special edition, if you ordered that special edition in another country though you got all of the skins, as a customer in the USA I fealt ripped off and it was a crappy way to do it, luckily the game wasn't worth playing more than once anyway so I didn't feel as cheated when I traded the game in a week after I got it.

This looks awesome, but...

I have to buy 3 freaking copies of this game to get all this stuff? Both versions of the Kollector's Edition for the Scorpion and Sub-Zero figurines and a Tournament edition for the joystick.

Why can't they make a Special Kollector's Edition that has both figurines, the art book and the joystick all in one package? That way you don't have to get 3 seperate copies of the freaking game. Which I can't afford to do but I might be able to afford one super package with everything in it. *sigh*

I hate the thought of missing out on that portable joystick and those Scorpion & Sub-Zero figurines. sad

I think Sub Zero is in the box so you just don't see him. It does say they both are in there.

Oh ok. Well, so that means I only have to buy two copies of the game to get all of this. lol

I'm too poor to do that. Dammit NRS, why can't there be an Ultimate Edition or something where I can get both the fight stick and the art book & figurines. I have no desire to own more than one copy of the game anyway.
I have no problem with this as long it's followed with a steady stream of DLC later on. But then again..It's all a travesty, a tragedy, this is fuckin pearl harbor for us MKfans.

As for the choices..I'm still going with Reptile. I can view The Toasty fatality on youtube if I want to and We've seen the Spine Rip. And How many times throughout the years have the humanoid reptile complaints popped up? Well consider it squashed until the next game. It's very faithful while being simple. Not that I don't like the other Reptile Design of course.

Now please Gamestop and Bestbuy Show us the Classic Costumes of Scorpion and Sub-zero!

Good news. I'm a little pissed that they're separating all the DLC so we won't be able to have it all on release. Hopefully somewhere down the track it gets released for all.

I hope there are alternates in the game for all characters that are not DLC. I really don't want a SF4 situation where we have to pay for everything that is already on the disc and that we have recieved in earlier games for no cost.

I've always been a fan of human reptile. His klassic outfit looks wicked. I'm hoping for the fatality where he eats your body with his tongue(sp?). I really liked that one.

As for sub and scorp I'm expecting palette swaps but hopefully they are unique. My expected klassic fatalies would of course be toasty and spine rip. They'll look glorious in HD.

Amazon might not have added the Kollectors edition into their system yet, so i say give it a few days.

Second, what on earth are you talking about? You see this is the type of shit im talking about. You people dont think... ALL OF THIS PRE ORDER CONTENT IS FREE! You pre order the game, you pay for $60 and you get this extra content for free. Why on earth are people bitching about this? Its extra content that they are providing to people for free and they have every right to do so. They dont owe you anything.

Agreed. Game developer's decide whether or not a game is "100%" just because a past game had something the new one doesn't or won't doesn't mean it should or that it's incomplete. Sure I agree that we should have the alt costumes and fatalities and whatever else people are complaining about. But you just have to understand that it's business. I mean the game looks good regardless, it has the basic necessities and let's not argue over what exactly that entails. The graphics are up to par, the character count is excellent as well as choice of cast so far. The gameplay looks solid, and we're supposed to have a deep story mode as well as true fatalities.

I know the bitching will continue, but let's at least be grateful that this game has a lot of promise as well as the nature of a true MK game to its core. I hope we can agree on that at least.
Do we know what the prices for the special editions will cost? Im a little worried that since they are only making 20,000 tournament editions its gonna cost like $300

See,one of the main things that deeply irks me about the DLC is not even the fact that it shamelessly whores out the content that was, almost certainly, supposed to be in the game in the first place, but just how intangible the whole concept is. Five years from now, when Xbox 1080 hits the scene, some corporate shitfucker in Microsoft or WB or whatever decides that providing the content for such an old game is unprofitable. Next thing you know, the game's support ceases, and the DLC becomes unavailable. Unless it's been physically preserved on an actual game disc,it's lost forever.

I'm a collector of video games. I immensely enjoy the fact that I can unearth a 20-year old NES game and enjoy it to the fullest extent, just like 20 years ago. I also enjoy getting the most complete version of the game available. But with the advent of this intangible DLC bullshit,we're now getting a whole generation of games that gimp themselves on purpose. Some corporate asshole might one decide to pull the plug on all that DLC. And once that happens, there would be no way to restore the game to its complete state. It wasn't properly preserved, and now,a part of it is irrevocably gone.

And the thought of that is just utterly revolting to me on a very deep and personal level.

But in any case, you know what I also hope?

That they will eventually follow up with an actual, physical update. Ultimate Mortal Kombat Turbo Dynamite Alpha Star-Studded Edition, whatever. Same game as first time, plus all the DLC bullshit that was released in the meantime. New costumes, including the classics, some cameo characters that didn't make it into the original, new stages, new music, new fatalities... A solid package, something that shouldn't be shameful to sell. In all honesty, knowing the team's record and looking at Super Street Fighter 4,I have almost no doubt that we'll eventually get an updated version. And I'll buy the fuck out of it.

The same reason I'm not a fan of DLC. People seem to forget that, if Sony or Microsoft stop with the whole console thing, you can forget about the DLC stuff once you console crashes or needs to be formatted. You really don't think they going to maintain the servers then. Or that another company will take over. And don't think it won't happen. Look at Sega, it used to be one of the giants of console gaming and is now reduced to a game develloper.

I'm half of the time in luck that I wait for games 'till they come cheap and sometimes get all the extra dlc on the disc with it. But this MK is a game I can't wait another year for after release.
So I'm hoping they will come with a cheaper edition after all the dlc has come out, which contains all the extra for people who don't have internet access or don't buy digitally.

On another note:
Like someone else said. It's not because there are gamers who accepted DLC, that we should accept it too. I never ever liked dlc, just for the fact that I knew where it was going. And you can't say we are wrong, because all the stuff is extra, so we should be glad we have that option. If you're not working for the company, you don't know what their original plans were/are. But releasing dlc stuff on release of the original game or shortly after, gives indication they were already working on it during development. So they would have the time to put that into the original games. And that's an attitude I don't like.
And concerning prices. Keep in mind that in this country, the only thing they do is change the dollar sign to a euro sign. They do no conversion. We pay more for the same game/content you are getting.

For me, when gaming is reduced to buying most of it digitally, I'm done with gaming.

Yes. That's why before,it wasn't as painful or rage-inducing.

I'd much rather prefer to think that my game is incomplete because the developers tried really-really hard to make it perfect, but just didn't finish everything they wanted on time, rather than knowing I only got one half of the game I was supposed to get, because some corporate shitfucker decided his wallet wasn't thick enough.

Ignorance truly is bliss in this case.

I really don't see how not having access (for all we know, we COULD have access to) to a few alternate costumes and fatalities makes it "half a game". Seriously, all people end up doing on this forum is complaining, one way or another. People can moan about this all they want, but it's obvious that extra content has been a way of companies squeezing out the pounds/dollars for years now. I know it isn't right, but geeze, it's about time to deal with it. A large amount of bitching on a fan forum isn't going to change anything... the game will operate just brilliantly without these extras. Each character has at least 2 costumes and 2 fatalities, and yet people want MORE? Why can't people be content with how the game is going to turn out anyway? The inclusion of a guest character and the pre-order exclusivity of some costumes and fatalities hardly makes it "half a game". I know we do deserve better, but that's business...

what if you dont want to pre order it. what if you want to wait to its 19.99...... i liked how burnout paradise handle their dlc. they gave you stuff free first. then they would add new things to the game that was not planned or didnt have enought time...... like big surf island. it was quality shit so i never complained about buying it. but a little costume and fatalities....... they should have enough time for that. thats why i never bought alt costumes for ss4. im not paying for shit that should already be in the game......sorry!!!

now dlc should be kratos or a post mk3 fighter. maybe even new stages or completley different mode.

Okay, not half. 95% percent, whatever. It's still fucking annoying and a horrible, underhanded business tactic that's only going to get worse from now on.

Not to mention that they could sell you a game with half of the content it was supposed to have originally, and you wouldn't even know it until 2 years later, when they've already milked you for every DLC the game was supposed to have originally. That's when you look back and say: "Damn,I got played like a five-cent kazoo."

FOR ME, WHEN GAMING IS REDUCED TO BUYING MOST OF IT DIGITALLY, I'M DONE WITH GAMING.

Signed under every fucking word.

Especially that last part.

Don't you guys realize what's going on around you? Remember back in the days, when you could read a game manual almost like a book, and it had so much backstory on the world and enemies and everything? Well,I'm sure you noticed by now that every single EA game has a manual that's two fucking pages. Seriously,it's basically just the controls explanation and the credits. And now Ubisoft is pushing to completely eliminate manuals because they apparently "damage the environment" or some bullshit like that.

The real explanation is a lot more simple - the just want to get rid of manuals entirely to save money it takes to print them. I'm sure you realize the next step to save a shitload of money is just to not print the actual games themselves. Push for complete digital distribution. It'll save millions on shipping and handling, too, because there would nothing to ship and handle. No one cares that the game won't be physically preserved for later generations of gamers to enjoy, because money-grubbing corporate assholes only care about immediate profits.

It's happening around you right now. Hell,it's already infested PC gaming with its AIDS. You know the whole DRM nonsense with limited installation attempts and internet legality confirmations (if you have no internet connection, your game becomes just a piece of plastic) and other ridiculousness where the people who bought the game legally are still treated like criminals and have to jump through more bullshit hoops than pirates?

You know what's next, when extremely hi-speed internet becomes globally widespread? Complete digital distribution. You'd still be forced to pay 60$,but you will never own an actual physical copy of the game that you goddamn well fucking deserve to for the money you paid. Oh no. The actual game data itself will remain on the corporate servers. You'd be paying 60$ for a PRIVILEGE of accessing and playing that game through the internet.

Horrified yet..?

Seriously,I feel like I should be that one lone madman, wandering around with a "The End Is Nigh" sign.

Well,at least when that happens,I'll take solace in the fact that I still have 30+ years of true videogame history, when we weren't getting fucked around every step of the way and weren't getting charged for air.

Fuck DLC.
