Kabal: It's not enough that this guy has already had his WHOLE ENTIRE BACKSTORY changed, they then give him a scene where on of the shittiest executed military style "plan" is set up by Stryker to cover ONE monster with four arms (NOT multiple targets) and then gets torched.

AND THEN

He dies a few scenes later.

And "side effect of outworld magic"? Really?

Othe than that, you pretty much covered them all, though I think Baraka should be right next to Reptile under "Punching bag"

"Trolled' doesn't mean "screwed over", you know....

I feel like the very fact that NRS had complete control over the characters and knew a lot of fans wanted to finally see a fleshed out MK1-MK3 game, story and all, makes it an act of semi-trolling.


Besides, the thread title is a good hook. "Screwed over" is a lot less interesting

Add Mileena to that list of screwed over characters. She had nearly her ENTIRE backstory ripped away from her for the sake of making her fanservice with the mind of a deranged child.

I'm probably the only person in the entire planet that liked Mileena's retconned story.

A lot of characters got trolled. The one that hit hardest for me was Kung Lao. Mainly because he's one of my favorite MK characters.
*defeats Goro*
*defeats Shang Tsung AND Quan Chi at the same time*
*defeats Kintaro, Shao Kahn's last resort and best warrior so bad that he's able to take off his hat and bow to the haters*
Then this happens...
Kung Lao: You see, Raiden! EARTH REALM IS SA-- *snap*
Shoa Kahn: ... You mad?
Me: WHAT?! :(
What makes this so bad, is that I feel like Raiden (who also got trolled... HARD) literally WATCHED Shao Kahn walk over to Kung Lao, grab his head and snap it like a twig. I mean, HOW do you miss that?! He did the same thing with Sub-Zero.
The cybers came to capture him, Smoke tries to save him but Raiden tells Smoke that it's "too late".
It wasn't too late when your ass saved him from the SAME thing back in the Living Forest, but now ALL of a sudden it's too late and Sub-Zero has to be captured and transformed? Throughout the whole story, I just wanted to smash Raiden's face with a hot iron.

You may be the only one that likes it, but I would like to step in now and say I don't mind it. She was never a favorite of mine anyway.

Besides, most of peoples arguments are drawn from personality traits she never had (at least not in canon) and most of them are ones that they thought up in there own head.

Now keep in mind I said "most of" not "all of", so I'm not singling anyone out here.

Anyway, if you ask me, she shouldn't be on the list of trolled. I mean, all in all, she showed up often enough, she was a pretty cool character.

If just having your backstory changed qualifies you to be on the list, go ahead and add the whole roster.

Mileena.

I remember thinking she was so goddamn cool in Gold and Deception.
She was cunning, motivated, and yet extremely dangerous.

She was very smart once upon a time. Not only did she pretend to be Kitana to gain control over/mislead the Outworld and Edenian armies, but she planned to conquer all of Outworld and Edenia, and destroy the things precious to the then-deceased Kitana.

In MK9, she's insane, dim-witted (as of what we've seen), and acts like a four-year-old. The fact that they changed her backstory (birth and reception by Kahn) so drastically hurt both her and Kitana.

Terrible, terrible decision.
Edit: How could I have forgotten about poor Shang Tsung?!
Yeah, he got screwed royally. I much prefer him to Quan Chi, who stole his spotlight.

Shang Tsung-they basically said, you're small time Shang Tsung, fuck what you did previously, Quan Chi can do it, only better (EWWWWW)

Mileena- I started liking Mileena in MKDeception because how brilliant and clever she was + she got a really cool, unique costume...then they turned her into a blundering child with sexual issues (creepy trolling). I laugh at her lines like "don't be mad" and "was it good for you", but I want clever, brilliant Mileena back, not Harley Quinn, mind of a 4 year old, yet hyper sexualized nonsense...


Sub-Zero- not going to go into it.

What about Motaro? He was taken out like it was nothing.

Reptile.

Jesus he got it bad this time around. Same with Baraka, but Baraka never really done much in the original MK1-MK3 era anyway. Reptile lost out on being Shang's guard, a hidden contestant in the first tournament (though his entrance in the new canon was semi-cool), and hunting down Kitana for her treason.

Troll-Chi.

Yeah! All four-legged Mortal Kombat fans are now pissed off because Motaro's greatest moment in the Story Mode was drowning into a city river and that's it. He could've shown up in the Netherrealm as a cameo zombie but he didn't; his compulsory cameo occurences are officially over.

I like Mileena as she is. It's a cool twist and we have enough clever characters as it is. Mileena was just created as well and might have time for her mind to develop(it's a possibility). A child in a woman's body.

But Raiden was trolled the hardest. How can a God be so fucking slow witted and slow to react.

And this is MK so why do our characters die in such lame and bland ways! The only exception being Nightwolf who went out like a boss. I mean MK is Gory and Bloody but most of the deaths didn't show that kind of brutal viciousness that I wanna see in my MK game. At least we are on the right path.

The line was "Give him multiple targets." As in "he can't hit both of us at the same time if we're spread out".

And it did work...for Stryker. lol

"The Dragon" is a TVTropes term for a big boss's second in command. (This is why it irks me a little when people use TVTropes lingo in casual conversation, it's kinda obscure, not everyone is gonna know what you're saying.)
P.S. my vote for the hardest trolling:

Kung Lao.

In the beginning he gets his ass whooped by Scorpion.

Raiden convinces him he is the one who must win. Kung Lao beats Kintaro, a 4 armed tiger beast. He then beats 2 sorcerers at the same time.

Only to get chumped by Shao Kahn. Raiden couldn't even say "Look out". Instead he yells out "Kung Lao!" AFTER he died. He couldn't have said that maybe 10 seconds earlier??

My favorite character....Murdered. All because Raiden failed to warn Kung Lao. I wouldn't have cared if Kung Lao died. But they could've at least gave him a noble death.

Also, everyone was died in the "Sindel Massacre" was obviously trolled.

I didn't see anything wrong with Sub-Zero's story, I thought his automation was awesome. Everyone else either I don't care about or I thought they did fine. But there is one character that I think could have been better by a long shot.

I thought they screwed Shang Tsung big time.

He's supposed to be powerful, but nowhere throughout the story showed me that he is.

Sheeva - YOU SHALL NOT FREE SONYA *ass kicked* YOU SHALL NOT FREE KITANA *ass kicked* you don't look human... *ass kicked*.

I almost forgot about Motaro....that's how badly he was forgotten and trolled.

Jade I feel was designed to troll Baraka and Sheeva for her chapter, all the snarky remarks and sarcasm, was quite funny.

1)Shang Tsung was never meant to be a "powerful" sorcerer. Except for the "TWO" Kung Laos he always get his ass kicked.

2)I was on the official forums by WB back in 2010/2011 and I can guarantee you every week there was a thread begging for Human Smoke to return. Maybe, having "just" two cyborgs was the best option. Still, Ed Boon & Co never wanted to give us a perfect MK Trilogy 2, they always said " the old story with few twists". Bad twists, but al least they gave us several warnings to get all used to the the new Subby".

3)Raiden was not a idiot, or better, the "original" Raiden was the REAL idiot. You're about to be killed by Shao Kahn, you can send a message to your former self...and you tell him "How are you doing, pal? Oh, I almost forgot, in three secs I'll die, so please "He must Win". Catch ya later".
The "new Storyline" Raiden just did what he could, considering how poor was the entire HE MUST WIN sentence.

6) Scorpion was supposed to be Quan Chi's lover until the end of MK4. I always found his character and story lame and boring, and waaay underdeveloped. Unfortunately, MK(2011) didn't give him any redemption.


The REAL trolls are:

1) Ed Boon: no matter if he is not in charge of the storyline, he always trolled us via Twitter, interviews and the game itself.
2) Quan Chi: sometimes his presence was...not only unnecessary, but also uncalled.
3)Johnny Cage: "I'm gonna take you down, take you out, take you out...for dinner!"; "Sure, let's ruin someone else's life!", "Couldn't ya see that in one of your hot flashes?"..."Who...the wrestler guy with the cow skull?"
"I'm so pretty!"
4)Jade: never thought she was a female version of Johnny Cage, 'cept for the shadow kick. She trolled every time she won a fight.
5)Mileena: Harley Quinn + 4 years old wannabe = MIleena in MK(2011)
