Boon hints as much on his twitter feed. I still own the ps2 version, but I could be swayed to double dip. Fantastic game.

Think anything will actually come of this? More troll boon? Does the possibility fill you with wonder, or does it cut into your heart...like some sort of...heart knife?

All this and more in the comments below...maybe.

Would love this but only if for next gen. With the new systems right around the corner, that's where my time will be invested. If they put this out on current gen, it will miss lots of players who have switched over.

However, Boon trolls like no other so I take it with a grain of salt.

It will be a wasted effort if it does not support Online Multiplayer. PERIOD.

I think it would be better if Netherrealm Studios simply did a new MK adventure game with the style of gameplay from MK: Shaolin Monks.

This.

MKSM was nice and all... but I already own it.

There would have to be more that just HD graphics and multiplayer to get me to buy it again. It'd be cool if they released it for PC on steam.

I believe they should do both an HD version of shaolin monks and another adventure game.

I'd love this. Shaolin Monks may have been an abomination of storytelling and voice acting but it was damn pretty and fun to play.

I second this statement. As to the topic at hand, since MKSM was using the MK2 storyline, I'd like to see a followup based on the MK3 storyline with more playable characters.

This.

Basically I'd expect it to be along the lines of MK Defenders of the Realm (with out all the corny shit, though) and with Kung Lao and Johnny Cage as part of the cast, of course.

That said, I'd also expect it to follow the ORIGINAL timeline.

Yeah, but not by much. I'd say that gameplay-wise, it was better. Story-wise, don't even get me started....

I think what helped made MK: Shaolin Monks was that the gameplay had that nice arcade feel with the beat 'em up element.

Gameplay was great! Nice depth, killer co-op, and the first action game (that I recall) that gave you multi-directional control of the character. This game was fun...on a bun even.

Lies. Injustice proves that pleasing me is very high on NRS list of goals for video games.

But seriously MKSM was super fun but I'd rather have a sequel. If they do an HD version I'd like to see more playable characters for the actual game and the versus mode. Then and only then will a remake/port be acceptable.

I agree, they only had Liu, Kung, Scorp and Subby for the Story and everyone else from the main 12 except Jax, Mileena, Raiden, and Shang for Vs. And no, I will not count the MK2 port that came with the game. tongue

It is really weird that half the characters weren't playable in the story mode even though they had the exact same functionality Scorpion and Sub-Zero did and would have worked just fine, as proven by how they play when you use them with a cheat device...except for the fact that they don't have Multalities and Brutalities, and really, how hard would those have been to add?

I mean, the whole "no matter who you play as, they still talk with Liu Kang and Kung Lao's voices in the cutscenes" thing is just as awkward when playing as Scorp and Sub as it would be playing as Kitana and Baraka or Reptile and Johnny Cage, so why not?
That said, HD ports usually don't change jack, and I'll be happy anyway if that's all we get. The people going "I'd rather have a sequel" are sort of missing that this wouldn't be a time or resource consuming project for NRS to do and it's not an either-or matter, companies release ports of older games for XBLA all the time like it's nothing, and I'd love to have a copy of Shaolin Monks for a console that I already have plugged in, instead of having to pull it out of the closet to play because I never use it anymore, as is the case with my PS2.

if they do this, i would love for them to continue on with that FIRE & ICE idea they had years ago. that would be awesome!

but it probably wouldn't be canon. if there's a way that they can do that tho.....im all in for it haha.

If they do release an HD version of Shaolin Monks, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the Fire and Ice game after all. If an HD Shaolin Monks game did really well, and since they already had Fire and Ice in production evidently, then there's no reason they shouldn't make it. Especially since they have made no announcement of any projects since Injustice's release, unless I missed something.

Eh? Does NRS even comprise of the employees at Midway Los Angeles?... because they are the ones who developed MKSM and more than likely the same who were doing Fire and Ice.

Does the current NRS team even possess the knowledge behind both games to pull that off? I don't think they do. ESPECIALLY now that the new consoles are coming out and Fire and Ice was designed on old and shitty technology. They'd have to (almost) start from scratch.

Shaun Himmerick(executive producer mk2011) was a producer for MKSM. I wouldn't be surprised if a few more people from that team took refuge at NRS post Midway.
