But Quan Chi didn't work his way from the bottom in that game.

He simply got himself out of a sticky situation, which was getting his ass beat by Scorpion.

Also, dont care to see Sonya, Jarek or Mileena. Tanya is on thin ice.

Jarek definitely shouldn't return. There's nothing at all to his character other than being a Kano replacement. I don't want him back especially if Kano returns. Unless they really do something interesting with him which I doubt.

Drahmin has a ton of potential. Sadly though I don't think we'll ever get to see him reach it. It seems when it comes to MK and new characters- you better hit it on the first try otherwise it's off to the gallows. Which is sad because not every character can be a Quan Chi or Kenshi.
