I personally don't know , I think an alien character could be cool if done correctly but I also don't think its really necessary.

Also, what would constitute being an alien in the MK universe? If we go by the real world definition I guess we already have aliens don't we?

Based on the that, wouldn't Tarkatans, Shokans and pretty much any being not from Earth (Earthrealm) technically be "aliens"?

Or is being from another realm different than being from another planet?

Nope, it would be glaringly out of place for MK.

However, I would not say no to an alien guest character depending on what species it is.

That's kind of what I was thinking, I think NRS could more than likely come up with something awesome as long its not a typical cliché alien character just for the sake of having one

With extra terrestrials it is difficult to see what that imparts, overall now. There was already unearthly characters in MK who are already recognized and it should be left at that. Why and what kind of information would they want on martial arts and how could that blend in with greys? martians do not have the same identity as known categories in MK. A contribution could be being from another dimension as this does not always define intelligent life. The sort is a lot different when the subjects are other-worldly.

I've always been confused by this as well. Are realms other dimensions? When Shao Kahn tries to "merge the realms" what exactly does that mean? Or is he trying to just conquer them? So many questions

I love how everyone and their mother use the whole "It would be out of place!" excuse every time it comes to new species and fighters being discussed. It's lazy.

I can't say it would be "out of place" because I need to see some artwork, read their story, play as them ect before I personally determine if they fit in my MK world or not.

I'm definitely cool with The Predator being in MKX as a guest character.

They could just have been a long forgotten realm who's portal has never been rediscovered. But then what? are they gods, dragons, three headed dog people? Kould be Anibus but nah.

Maybe not aliens from space but a more celestial realm or something like that. I could see it, maybe a more scientific realm as opposed to the more magical ones we typically see in MK. Earthrealm can't be the only one with a boost in tech.

The idea of additional realms with E.T's gets tired after a while contemplating where we are in MK these days. There are enough realms as it is and after a very protracted process they should be brought to an end. Too much turmoil for the forces of light and darkness to comprehend with simultaneously. It is conceivable though that there were a network of divisions formed within the present realms that the Kamidogus represented. for instance the alignments in orderrealm, being the standout.

Every time a character from one realm steps into another realm, they are aliens to that realm. So we already got aliens in this game. Lots of them.

There is no need for aliens from another planets, when you have multiple worlds.

Sure, why not. If we're talking about the technologically advanced kind, with spaceships and all. They should be allies to Earth, though a few villainous ones is okay.

And them being accused of being out of place by unimaginative people who just can't stand diversity only makes me want them more.

Depends.

Some fictional universes can pull off the scienci fiction/fantasy merger, kinda like Warhammer: blue aliens with extremely hi-tech plasma weaponry firing on the bloated daemonic enbodiment of all disease and plagues. Fun stuff.

However, because there are connotations with the word science fiction and martial arts fantasy, I do not really think that MK COULD mesh that well. Technically the shokan are alien, Outworlders are alien.

And we already had MK Mythologies Sub-Zero.... oh boy, a netherrealm filled with cyberpunk architecture with metal geared technological constructs and sorcerers ripping off the Crow and putting more spikes on themselves than a german S&M club.

MK already tried it under different pretenses. It failed on such orbital levels that even Retsupurae could not make fun of the fire breathing dinosaur in the underworld.

So no. Not with the current team, or more precisely, current MK world.

Oh come on, you're seriously telling me you didn't like that? It's a hell of a lot more memorable than the generic "chains and brimstone" stuff we've been seeing since.

Being a big fan of cyberpunk, spikes, leather and latex, I loved it. ^^

Mythologies remains one of my favorite games partially for the creative Netherealm designs.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but I've longed to see the techno-hell from Mythologies come back. Would be great to see the Netherealm having different levels a la Dante, with that particular area being Shinnok's hangout.

No aliens in the traditional sense, please. This ain't Independence Day. And STFU with those who have a problem with other posters saying that it's out of place.

I do not hate it on principle, I hate it how it was done.

It wasn't cyberpunk, It wasn't Gigerian, It wasn't memorable and was fucking out of place in an MK. Do I prefer brimstone hell over it? No, but at least that had some coherence and was not jumping around in tone.

It tried to be too dark. MK isn't dark to the extent of 90's generic nondescript darkness. If MK wants to be dark, there is MKX so far. Take a word from Lynch, let the familiar make you uneasy.

So no, I didn't like it because it looked like it was the 15 year old's idea of what a cool hell would look like while disregarding the tone of the overall franchise.

But they have a point. I'm sure most people thought cyborgs would be out of place too before MK3 and a whole host of other things that have been and will be introduce in the future. I'm not saying I'd want aliens but I'll at least see how they're done before I go running off at the mouth.
