As alot of you have said, she kinda sucked in MK Vs DC so I haven't got high hopes for Kitana in this. Cool that there is some news tho.

Sindel, Jade, Mileena and Tanya aswell would be a dream!

Well, I have to say that Kitana is a pleasant surprise. Now if they confirm Shang Tsung or Quan Chi I'll be the happiest woman alive.

So, we get another leak. I'm not surprised that Kitana will be returning, but like with Sonya, I'd like to see improvements for Kitana. The main issue is giving a good, accurate portrayal of her character, probably even going back to her darker roots (without being a villain).

Another issue is the issue of costumes, which is the same problem I had for Sonya. They need to get rid of the swimsuits and high-heeled footwear, especially the latter. It would be nice to see a significant amount of new special moves given while retaining the good original specials (e.g. Fan Throw, Fan Lift).

If this next game is supposed to be the start of a new saga or something along those lines, I hope we do get a lot of fresh new faces and see more of the Vogel-era characters as well.

I'm glad to hear she is back. So we pretty know that Sub, Scorp,Sonya, and Kitana are back. In general I hope that the MK team makes the cast look slightly younger than the last time we saw them. in MK: A the MK cast was really starting to show their age. I am not asking for teens, but I hope to see the characters in their mid to late 20s and maybe early 30s.

Kitana is not a surprise at all, if this turns out to be true. She's the most iconic female character in the entire MK franchise, even if a lot of this stems from the movies really hyping her up as a heroine and connecting her to Liu Kang romantically. Before that, Kitana was actually a better charatcer, just being this cold woman out for her realm; but far less popular.

I always assumed that they gave Kitana some of Mileena and Jade's moves for MK vs. DC as an homage to those characters as well. It is a bit messy to have all three girls running around in the game, so just lift some of their specials, and give it to the girl that they were cloned from, or are the best friend of. Kitana is the most prominent of the Edenian characters, make no mistake about it, but there were little nods in her to other characters. I don't see it as "stealing" rather than the MK Team trying to make you all happy.

Could she be improved? Personality-wise, absolutely. Costume-wise, I do think so, yes. But as far as her character has developed, and the role that she plays, I think Kitana was pretty much a given for the next saga of Mortal Kombat. Sorry, Sindel, Jade and Mileena, but only if there's room for you.

She better not take Mileena's place yet again!! They hyped Mileena up so much in the last few games, it would be stupid to sacrifice her again for Kitana's sake. And please, keep Mileena separated from Kitana in the next game. Keep her going as the unique female villain as opposed to the "evil twin".

And try not to get kidnapped again, sweetie-pie?

What people need to come to grips with, I think, is that it is not Kitana taking Mileena's place, but Mileena taking Kitana's. Don't get me wrong, I love Mileena -- but Kitana is the star of the Edenia plotline; not Milly. Of all the other Edenian characters, I'd definitely put Mileena up there as my #2 most wanted return (just in front of Jade, who I believe can offer a fair bit to the series still), but just because she is a great character, is cool, all of that -- she's still a supporting player next to Kitana.

That's not to say that she can't get a "push" and be moved beyond that role; but I don't think that we are yet at the stage where people should be justifiably pissed off that Kitana is back when Mileena isn't. Well, duh. She's the bigger character.

Potential doesn't write paychecks. Mileena might have all the potential in the world, but right now, Kitana is a CEO in the story.

I'm doing okay. Stuck somewhere in post-college limbo, working for the kgb (texting company). Looking at teaching options, Peace Corps options, and even the Navy route. But so far, video games. Lots and lots of video games.

Sub-Zero, Raiden, Scorpion, Sonya, and Kitana. The mk bare necessities right there in my opinion. The two top ladies of mk Sonya Blade and Kitana. I can be happy with those two but now I really want either Jade, Sindel, or Mileena. I want all three but I would be satisfied with at least one of them. I'm still irked that we didn't get Mileena or Reptile in mk vs dc but we got Captain Marvel. WTF? Anyway moving on...

I hope they keep a traditional masked ninja outfit and one different unmasked alt. I was pleased with her moves in mk vs dc except for the fact that they gave her Mileena's roller ball. I wasn't too pleased with her role in that game but I can ignore that shit when I am playing in arcade mode or vs. I'm a Reptile and Smoke fan so I'm used to getting fucked over.

I hope they avoid introducing 7 or 8 new watered down new characters and give me a nice solid classic roster. We're off to a good start so far.

Wow, havn't been on here in ages! glad to see some more MK9 news.

Anyway, was more happy to see Sonya confirmed personally she's one my favs. But still Kitana is one of the classics and I like her, but part of me thinks maybe Mileena would be a better choice, her character IMO was developing really well and becoming much more then a evil twin. Ah well good news, just hope she gets a different approach/story/look, she needs it (so do most of the characters really.) Cant wait for some pics and designs of characters etc. :)

I need TANYA in this game. If not....

First Sonya, now Kitana... Now just confirm Johnny Cage during the first round or two of confirmations so I don't have to sweat it out like DA and I'm good. Love the two choices thus far.

About Kitana, though... when has she ever been in the first release of a game? MK2, MK:DA, and MKDC are it, excluding the catch-all MKA. I guess this means you can color me surprised, (as I was when she showed up in MKDC) if this turns out to be true. Remember, she was supposed to be in MK4, but was cut.

I agree with what Queve and Temp were thinking about her poor development, but the same can be said for almost every MK character. She needs direction, and a storymode would offer just that. I think she's one of those characters, like Johnny Cage and Kung Lao, that would greatly benefit in the format (Shaolin Monks made Lao much more interesting, IMO, and Cage generally stole the show anytime he was onscreen, just like the 1st movie). I think Kitana fits this mold because we tend to view her as nothing more than an Edian princess. Seeing her interact with other characters will help us accept her as more than that.

Anywho, Sonya and Kitana (assuming the rumors are correct) isn't a bad start. Nice change from "we can only confirm that ice ninja and that spear ninja at this time." I'd like, just once, for the MK team to leave those two off the revealed roster until the game has either shipped or almost has. I think most of the posters he would have a heart attack.

If they want to fix Kitana story-wise, the first thing they need to do is get her the hell away from Edenia. That realm has become a fucking black hole of story interest. And you know what, the same could be said for the other characters stuck in that pit of despair.
If they bring Mileena back, someone should warn her Edenia is where stories go to die.

Second thing they need to is give her her balls back. For fuck's sake, this woman is supposed a former cold blooded killer who went on to free her realm almost single-handed. You certainly wouldn't know that from the spaced-out clown wandering aimlessly around MK vs. DC's story-mode.

I think basically, the MK team should regard MK vs. DC (EDIT: oh yeah, and Shaolin Monks too) as a benchmark for how NOT to portray Kitana.
It'd be a start.


Then of course, there's still her design and moves. I mean, I love the blue bathing suit as much as the next guy, but I think we've officially seen the extent of what can be done with that template.
I know the popular thing to say is she should look more "princess-like" but if the princess sitgma is one of the things that's slowly killing her....kind of seems counter-productive to emphasize it in her design, no?

And special moves....the fans are one of the most unique and bad ass weapons in the game. There has to be more that can be done with them than just a fan throw and a fan lift. Kitana really should not be reduced to ripping off Mileena's moves.
It makes my eyes rain.

I think basically, it comes down to the MK team to stop treating her like a character to just throw in merely because she's popular, and put some actual effort into her.


I keep thinking about that MK Kast where one of the development guys said MK vs. DC would be a "return to MK2 glory" for Kitana. If they really believe that pathetic display was some sort of "return to glory".....sad days ahead for Kitana fans.
