Onaga doesn't HAVE to possess Reptile. Inhabiting a new body is how he got around in MKD, but in Armageddon, he and Reptile are separated and he's walking around in his original body that was buried in a tomb when he died.

Maybe the story gets another altercation and there is another way Onaga makes an appearance. Like the egg hatches on its own for starters. Or a dragon is brought into the egg chamber.

The way I see it, Onaga possesses Reptile much the same way an agent in the Matrix takes over a human. The agent will still look like an agent, but he's using the human as the host. Onaga uses Reptile as his host, but he's still in the form of Onaga.
It's not exactly the same, but same principle.

so some one plz tell me wtf is the point of a dragon egg if onaga doesnt need to hatch from it? ... it just makes little to no sense of having an egg if all he has to do is hop around from host to host

So Onaga can go into one of fallen heroes body and then they come to life? What about Cyber Sub-Zero making Onaga a Cyber Onaga.

Onaga DOES need to "hatch" from the egg, in the resurrection plan that he and his holy men set up. When the egg hatches, his spirit jumps into whoever's in the room and is stuck with that one, he can't "hop from host to host".
The reason he's in his old body in Armageddon is because SHINNOK rezzed him a second time, after Nightwolf booted him out of Reptile's body and trapped his soul in Hell.
So really, in the new timeline it'll be a question of "does he rez himself or does somebody else rez him?"

Yeah.
I don't buy that either. It may be canon, but it does sound stupid.
A spirit needs an egg... to hatch a visibly seen baby dragon... just for the baby dragon to disappear and turn into a spirit... to take over a host....
...even though that spirit was already free to roam the realms and manipulate Shujinko.
What am I missing here? Is Onaga not inside that egg or what?

Couldn't agree more. I want to see progress. They rebooted the story with an alternate timeline. Just because we saw Shinnok at the end does not automatically mean that the next game will be the next three games or even MK4 next.
For all we know, Raiden has some inkling of what happens with Shinnok ascending and he kills him in the opening cinematic. Maybe that touches off a whole string of events that lead us to a completely different villain.
Personally, there aren't a whole lot of characters that I love from post MK3. They've wiped the slate clean time-wise, so they can really pick and choose who returns and why. I want to see something new. I don't want to see an alternate version of stuff I've already seen. Maybe that's just me.
Side note: Didn't even realize that this was a 3 year old thread until Razor pointed it out lol! I guess it's a pretty relevant topic right now though, as the speculation (hopefully) ends in a month or so.

And that's perfectly fine. I just don't want a remake with slight changes like "Instead of Liu Kang, Kai defeated Shinnok!" or "Jarek ends up staying with the good guys after Shinnok's defeat!" ect.
Let's bring in a few new faces and have this game allude to an all new conflict after Shinnok is defeated. Or if Shinnok wins. W/e they choose to do.
But we definitely don't need to re-live every game. That's not progress.

The next game will most definitely deal with tons of MK4 material and references.
It's all about Shinnok now. It might not be specifically the same plot, but, it will definitely borrow from it and I'm guessing it will add/feature elements, stories, and characters from MKDA and MKD.

Exactly. I mean I do want a good number of MK4 characters to return, mainly Tanya, Fujin, and Reiko, really, if those three make it I'll be fine. I wouldn't even mind if Shinnok IS the new villain and it is somewhat based off the MK4 story but also includes a ton of fresh new elements, maybe a few DA/Deception characters can show up a bit earlier in different roles, and maybe MKX could lead into a brand new never before seen threat in the next game. I just don't want this to be an uninspired remake of MK4 with lame changes, and then the next game to be an uninspired remake of Deadly Alliance, and ect ect. But I guess we'll know all tomorrow.

I wish that because of the changes to the timeline during the last game, and some made in this new one, Onaga resurrects earlier, near the end of the game, forcing Shinnok to forget about invading the realms for a bit to defeat him in order to prevent the awakening of the One Being. After he does, he is left weak and is taken back to the netherrealm or someplace else. If they do that and manage to kill a few more characters, Armageddon is also averted, because of the lack of powerful warriors that detonated it, so with Shinnok, Onaga and Armageddon all taken care of, we would be set for a completely new story
Personally i'm tired of seeing everything remade. I mean just think of how many incarnations of the Living forest we've seen. To be perfectly honest I really would like something entirely new. With the ratio of new and returning characters to be flipped... mostly new characters and only a few returning indirectly (new characters taking on the role of previous).

I wouldn't want TOO many new characters though, because frankly they are always wasted. Every time they give us a new crop of characters barely any of them return for the next. I wouldn't be opposed to introducing maybe 1-4 new characters this time around but that's it. I don't want them to pull a Deception and introduce like 8 new characters or something like that, especially when we have so many characters who have never even been given a true second chance.
But I agree, I'm tired of the nostalgia rut we've been stuck in for the past eight years, Time to move forward.

Well said, and agree. What about the tone of the next game? I have always felt that the games steered more towards a parody of itself after MK2. MK vs DC and MK9 seemed to get back to being serious. I'm hoping the next game is dark and gritty. Hoping for more photorealistic characters and stages. Also secrets... lots of secrets lol

Mortal Kombat 4 = great storyline, poor gameplay/graphics... although I have come to realize the latter part as I got older.

Dude, a ghost and the baby dragon can BOTH be in the egg. Onaga's not what's supposed to hatch, he's just piggybacking.
Second, Damashi wasn't Onaga's ghost in person, Damashi was an illusion Onaga was projecting from a distance.
