My feedback of Triborg after playing as him

I got a chance to try him out at the ESL Finals on Sunday (what an amazing experience it was), first fighting game tournament I've attended.

At first, like many of you got annoyed with the KP2 reveal trailer and thought Triborg was a cheap attempt to have all 3 cyborgs in 1. I like each cyborg individually in MK3 and MK9. But trust me, once I got my hands on playing as Tri, I fell in love.

They let the audience try out Triborg and he was truly awesome. We were not allowed to photograph or film anything, obviously. The time I spent playing was short (only 10 min. allowed per person).

I tried out all 3 variations. I picked Sektor variation first, messed around with the missiles a little bit. Couldn't figure out any combos as I like to usually find them on my own when I try a new character. He had like 1 combo input that requires just button presses without directional input, and it was like 2,1,3, if I remember correctly. Seems like his combos will require directional input like Tremors. Not entirely sure on that since I was trying to discover new moves while my opponent just wanted to beat me lol. Only thing I didn't like about Sektor's moveset was that they changed the input of his tele-uppercut from MK9. Instead of Down, Forward, B... it was Down, Back, B.

Cyrax has some really cool new grenades, the air ones are fantastic. He might end up being better than MK9.

Smoke was my favorite. Great combination of UMK3 and MK9. His air throw is great and looks great. EX spear leads to an electric shock (I know it's not new, you guys saw it in the kast).

I found like 1 universal special move between all 3...Back, Forward, 3. That's the slide kick.

We found the throw move Brutality by accident, it was awesome and you guys saw it in the Kombat Kast. The trash compactor fatality is so awesome. I also saw the other one from the trailer in full. It is truly badass. You really have to see it to appreciate the beauty of it. I won't spoil it too much, but he does a little more damage before the cyborgs take the opponent up into the air. Noob fans are in for a treat!

The back dashes are black flips as you know. Every animation on Triborg looks amazing, each different mask for each variation looks so good I can't wait for release. I'm so upset they didn't reveal a separate release date for Triborg, all I heard while asking around was March 1st with XL.. It sucks. But Triborg is definitely awesome, he will definitely set the bar higher for MKX, I'd love to see the pros use him in tournaments.

We fought on the Pit the whole time, I tried to see if a regular uppercut would trigger the stage fatality but of course it didn't. Doesn't hurt to try. Seems like there's different directional inputs for each character to perform the fatality, when we looked at the movelist it was just a bunch of question marks.

Damn it, we have to wait a whole another month (and a week). Ugh.

That's so cool man that they let you try him out. I can't wait to play him. Wish I could have gone to the ESL Finals. Even though I live in NY I would have try to make the trip over there. I would had on my Kenshi Cosplay.

Did you get a chance to see Cyber-Sub at all?

No I didn't see Cyber-Sub. I don't think anyone discovered it, we were all shocked since we played before the kombat kast went live. That's gotta be his non-variant mode. I wouldn't be surprised if they had that excluded from demo build we played so no one discovers it.

Yeah it sucks with the pit, but now we have new directional inputs to memorize. Great.

Why does every one keep talking about a "no variation" mode I'm confused lol. Besides it says Cyber Sub Zero (LK 520) under tri borg so it some sort of variation song how lol

Figured that they might change to have a different input for The Pit. Perhaps it is similar to their MK9 inputs or holding the Change Stance button while doing the uppercut? Can't wait.

After selecting your character, press UP, UP, TRIANGLE or UP, UP, Y and you'll select "No variation" for that character. They end up only having their base specials that are common across all three variations and no variation cues in their appearance.

Because Triborg has no common specials across his variations people are theorising that you choose "No variation" for Triborg and you'll have Cyber Sub-Zero instead.

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. Shame that it's looking more and more likely that March 1st is the release date for all, but I can wait.

Wish the brutal was just an uppercut instead of a stage fatality input like the older games, would love to have been able to do it in combos.

Awesome man thanks for sharing. Everything from the kombat cast looked incredible. That back dash could be the best in the game depending on the size of it's hitbox. Sektor's looking like his best incarnation to date, zoning is so swaggy. Way too early to tell, BUT I feel like Sektor was a little lacking in the mix up game in that the only low I saw (or can remember) was the second hit of one of his strings and the only overhead was (i think) the second hit of enhanced tele punch. I'm trying to re watch it now but my youtube won't work for some reason. Not saying he will be bad or anything, just that he won't be played like a 50/50 mad man in a game that tends to reward that design. Smoke on the other hand looks like he has potential to be Batgirl reincarnate with 50/50's leading into vortex and a teleport overhead that combo's (when meter burned at least). Hopefully he isn't as stupidly safe. Batgirl ruined Injustice for me. Cyrax looks like he has the most interesting design because his bombs hitting low grant him a mix up game with his overhead Back 2. I foresee a lot of combo's ending in hard knock downs followed by bombs to continue pressure or do a mix up (as Mustard was showing off). Hopefully he has no broken resets like MK9 tho and plays more like lex from Injustice with set ups on top of set ups that lead into set ups. Love playing characters like that, such a sexy play style.

That said, IF they are able to improve the online and IF I get Tri-borg I refuse to ever refer to him as Tri-borg. I will play Cyrax or Sektor or Smoke, never "Tri-Borg". This is my personal lil butthurt fanboy rebellion. As far as I am concerned there is no character called Tri-Borg in my MK universe. All who say otherwise (NRS included) are mistaken and will be shown to the door. I don't care if i am at THEIR house or we are speaking online and there is not a physical exit. If you like Tri-Borg for being Tri-Borg please come right this way.

Also, and this is petty and random, but I'm starting to feel like NRS has forgotten what the color red looks like. MKX straight up has no red, even characters that are traditionally red (Ermac, Sektor) are like dark burgundy or maroon. I noticed this trend in MK9 as well. Is Boon a crip?? Stop trying to be so dark and edgy and just make them red. fuck.

EDIT: Oops was wrong about Sektor's mix ups. The string where I thought the second hit is a low is just a mid and instead he has a low kick pop up string similar to what he had in MK9.

For your info, we could only play Triborg mirror matches there. We heard the same dialogue as you did. From the stream.

Jee I don't know why we follow rules, maybe not to get kicked out? There was a staff member watching over everyone playing.

Let me ask you a question, if you had the opportunity to play as a new character, would you have chosen a different character? If you answered yes, then good for you. I'd rather not play as characters I already can at home, I'd rather try the new one, just like everyone else. We were only given 10 minutes to play.

Yeah but you could see few intros and when seeing them go to select screen after that, not playing 1 second so you don't lose time. Also yeah, I would examine all I can to learn the new stuff. I'll be playing with Triborg all I want. but the story is more interesting. Also nobody is going to kick you out if you a re cool and mellow dude. But even if you're rascal and say to them to fuck off and they kick you then WHAT? Big deal! I can't understand you ? Also you don't have any chance to win this tournament, because of SonicFox and the other MK beasts homie. So don't try to play that kard.

I didn't participate in the tournament, I was a part of the audience. Just goes to show you have no clue about the fighting scene. I don't care for the intros as much as you do Asesino, that's why you have a hard time understanding me. I'm not scared of any security guard or anyone. I just want to play as the character, simple.

I do care for the story obviously, but more for the fighting. And by the way, how do you know I'm not good enough to beat SonicFox or any other competitors, have you seen me play? Lol dude your funny bruh.
