Even If Gamestop aren't right about Cage being absent, it looks almost certain that he dies sometime during story mode because of that ring Sonya is wearing around her neck, which most often symbolizes the loss of a spouse.

I would rather have Johnny Cage not be in at all if he's just going to die. I think the perfect ending for him and Sonya to end their run in mk for awhile was the scene of them standing on the roof with Raiden at the end of mk9. Those two being the only Earthrealm survivors after the invasion would have been a great send off for both characters but now they've got a daughter involved and I got the feeling Johnny and Sonya are going to die for a plot device for Cassie.

How would GameStop get the full character list? If they knew who every character in the game was they'd pump that shit out in a second. This just seems like GameStop are passing speculation off as fact without jack-shit to back it up, just like Mileena/Shang Taung. I don't know if Johnny will be in, but he has a decent chance. Either way, we'll know all in April, but until then I'm not believing a fucking word GameStop say. Period.

Johnny goes out like a hero saving Cassie and possibly Sonya thus the ring round her neck on a chain. Callin' it!!

Remember Johnny was killed in outworld invasion(between end of mk2 and mk 4) in the original timeline and I think with the new timeline altered thanks to Rayden; he is killed another way during the NetherRealm war possibly sacrifice to save his wife and daughter and is unable to return because it would have some effect on something Rayden is trying to prevent.
