Shao Kahn return in the making?
Shao Kahn return in the making?
I didn't have Shao Kahn in my list of candidates for MKX Boss because... well, MK9 point was to eradicate him.
But now we have:
- His soul trapped inside Ermac.
- The library arena, with his hammer, his armor and the most interesting part, a forming flesh body with Shao Kahn's size!!
Are these the first steps for some character to extract Shao Kahn's soul from Ermac, put it inside that body in the library and give him his armor and hammer that are right there too?
Ermac's revelation raised my eyebrows as I though there was no escape from his MK9 destiny, but it's possible that Shao Kahn used Ermac (his creation) as a safeguard in case something happened to him (succesful villians reach their position by always having a plan B).
Now all those things in the library (that looks like the Brotherhood of Shadow's background from the "Next" trailer btw) while knowing Shao's souls is still around? Even if it ends up failing it really looks like someone will at least try to bring the emperor back!

That's what I thought, too.
But the question is who wants him back...and why? Quan Chi and Shinnok pretty much led him to his death in the first place. Reiko wants power for himself. And Havik has to be loving the Outworld Civil War.
....perhaps Hotaru? There was order in Outworld when Shao Kahn ruled, no doubt.

Certainly seems possible. We have Kahn's soul supposedly in Ermac, we have the stage with Kahn's stuff in it, plus what looks like a large unfinished body in the center. I wouldn't put it above somebody to try and resurrect or maybe even "recreate" him.
As for your idea about Ermac being created as aPplan B for Kahn in case something were to happen to him, I agree, I was thinking something similar when I first heard those intros during Ermac's reveal.
Kahn is no idiot, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he specifically created Ermac not only as one of his warriors, but as a being where his soul would go and be stored if he was killed until somebody could find a way to bring him back.

Actually, Hotaru viewed Onaga's previous ruling of Outworld as orderly which is why he sided with him, Havik was all about resurrecting Kahn because of how much chaos his time in the emperor's chair brought
If my knowledge of Deception bios and story is accurate, of course

True, but which would Havik prefer now? A civil war or Shao Kahn? Which would be more chaotic?

Bam.
I do like Shao Kahn, but I sincerely hope this isn't the "surprise boss" they were referring to.

The great clash of the Paddle and the Hammer

He is, without question, the most fierce opponent known to any MK kombatant. His immediate return in the next game proves he's the only enemy worth a damn. No way he comes back in MKX. Netherrealm has proven, and will do better.

I like Shao khan, he talks mad shit it's hilarious. I like the idea of characters like him and shang returning just not as bosses. A Shao kahn variation would have been better than the flight one for ermac. i don't mind the tributes and nods.

I've never been a big fan of Shinnok, I'd rather see him wax some ass than Shao continue his reign.
It'd be more interesting to see a weakened and desperate Khan reclaim his throne.

I sincerely hope not. Kahn is overused and the fact that he never, ever, ever, EVER changes and is always literally the same character with the same motivations and the same bullshit every single game he shows up makes him almost as bad as Quan Chi at this point. He's stale, he's boring and whats worse is he's just simply not that threatening or intimidating anymore.
Bring on the new and fresh. Let his ass sit on the sidelines for a few games.

About Me
"You will serve me in the Netherrealm!" - Quan Chi.

Im pretty sure Shao Kahn can afford to sit this one out. Yeah his attitude is tough to my liking, but he had full boss shine in MK9, let alone some of the other games. Im sure his soul is out there somewhere anyway.
Let's see if NRS can create a boss as iconic as Shao Kahn. MKX looks solid so far, give them folks a chance.
