Since we haven't yet tried out Soul Calibur's Create-a-Character mode, I don't think we can really answer for sure whether MK should have this feature or not.

The easiest way to do this will be to just let you create a character's appearance, and having them fight with a pre set move list, most likely used from a regular character. I'm in two minds about this, it's kinda fun creating an ideal character roughly how you'd like them to look, but if you want, let's say Johnny Cage's moves, why not just play Cage?

What may be possible is having all the basic moves as preset lists (editing regular punches and kicks is too much hard work for most regular players) then choosing the special moves and fatalities your created character can use. Then we hit another potentially, far bigger problem: Character Balance. There would have to be some set limits, to prevent players creating horribly overpowered fighters, and using them to cheap other players to death in versus or online.

I'd like to see a Create a Character mode in a beat em up, with a GOOD fighting engine, with GOOD gameplay mechanics, if the problems above can be solved. It should not be added like Puzzle, Chess and Krapquest, extra features to try and hide the fact that the real fighting game in MKD is so horribly flawed. If they have the space left after giving us a good fighting engine, then I'd be interested to see Create a Character mode in a future MK. Maybe using some of the space MKD wasted with Krapquest.

I really don't care if they have a Create-a-Character Mode!! I don't know why everyone wants this mode so bad!! But I wrote this on a post before, Have a second disc with with all the stages and characters only, then have a lot of space to Create-a-Character for people who want it so bad!!!

Because it's more filler stuff that's not needed. Creating a character imo opinion is awaste ina game like MK that has story and pretty much deep backgrounds for most characters. It's not needed.

Only if ther chreated character may choose from powers that are not available for the others, but IMO it's a waste of space, and you know how restricted and unbalanced it will be in Soul Calibur. ;
Go here to watch a developer video interview about the Create-a-Character Mode in SC3.

Project Soul

When you go to that site, click on the links in this order to get to the vid.

English

Soul Calibur 3

Inside the project

hilight the door on the right (Soul theatre) and go in to it.

There you will find the vid. all the way to the right.

Seems interesting so far in the video, though having the Namco team big it up doesn't really tell us how well it will work in reality. Seems like I was right about it having a load of set fighting styles to choose from, whilst creating the fighter's look from numerous options.

As I said before, I'd be interested to see MK try it ONLY when they've fixed most of the big problems with the main fighting engine. As MKD proved, no amount of fancy extras can disguise the fact that the main game is crap, fix that first, then let's talk about extra featues. Removing the collossal waste of disk space we call Konquest for a start might give us the space to include create a character options along with a good, playable beat em up.

I think it's not a good idea because most people will use it to create supercharacters which will end up being all the same and ruin the gameplay, or completely moronic ones that will end up ruining the atmosphere. If the next MK is online too, I wouldn't feel like facing a clown, naked characters, characters with idiotic names or whatnot.

Cheers,
