posted05/09/2016 04:30 PM (UTC)byOver the weekend Ed put up an interesting poll, as we can see on the MKO main page. The poll asked us to choose which character out of 4 that we missed the most in MKXL. Out of 4 selections (Noob, Rain, Baraka, Kabal), the runaway landslide winner was Noob Saibot.
Noob received 45% of 10,111 votes - that's over 4500 unique votes for Noob Saibot. Rain came in second, and considering all the bellyaching done over him not just on MKO, but also on twitter, it is shocking that he didn't even come close to Noob's runaway win in the poll.
As of about 1130pm EST on Sunday, 4/17, Ed has posted a new poll - asking us which of four female fighters we missed the most in MKXL (Jade, Sindel, Sheeva, Skarlet). Jade is already in a commanding lead, which isn't surprising, but Skarlet and Sindel are catching up fast. Sareena was left out of this poll which is sure to infuriate many. She would have received my vote, BUT - keep in mind the poll is only asking about playable characters from MK9.
Why now, all of a sudden, after several quiet weeks, are we seeing this kind of activity?
Here's a few interesting facts:
* NRS has said that MKXL/KP2 is definitely NOT the last round of DLC. While no specifics were given as to what that meant, it still means there is more content to come.
* Carlos Pesina has been back at Mocap full-time at NRS since mid-March.
* (take with a grain of salt) My own contact has confirmed that Pesina's mocap work is for more MK content
* Rumor fueled by "other sites" and those who also claim to have sources have indicated that the pics and tweets from Pesina indicating that he'll be playing with swords during his mocap could indicate Kabal or Sareena (her signature weapons are dual blades).
* Sareena was left OUT of the "who did you miss" females poll, curiously...while Kabal was not left out of the first. Fujin was left OUT of the "who did you miss" males poll as well. Both characters are in EXTREMELY high demand. However, BOTH polls are asking ONLY about playable characters from MK9, NOT the entire historical MK roster.

KenshiMaster and I proposed an idea in a previous thread that a community-fueled character vote for the next MK could make a lot of people happy and truly show that NRS does, in fact, listen to fans. Almost as if there were NRS spies on MKO, those polls appeared within a few days of that discussion. Coincidence i'm sure...i'm not floating conspiracy theories here.
So what's up, NRS?
There's a couple of possibilities here.

Now, this whole thread is aimed at discussing the possibility that Ed may be gathering info so that they can work on a Fan pack. I also indicated above that such a thing is probably the LEAST likely scenario.
What do you think? The timing of these polls is curious, especially considering the fact that the entries for each poll are ALL in high demand from the community, were all playable in MK9, and all appeared in MKX(except Sheeva) in some shape or form (in the case of Noob, he was mentioned several times) as non-playable characters.

At the same time he was the same guy Who told me that Kai and Reiko were to be playable in MK X.

Man, that is terrible! If we were to get a sequel to a MK adventure game I would want Shaolin Monks 2.

If Ed's burnout thing is real n he's trapped with MK, that's horrible. At least back in the arcade/Midway days he worked on a bunch of different games n genres.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked if he was, at the very least, burnt out on MK. I have no doubt that he is proud of the series and its continued success, but I also get the feeling some days that he'd rather be known for "The Grid".
Hopefully, if his burnout is indeed real, he shakes it off with their next game and finds his passion again.

I can think of another possibility. When I booted up the mobile game a few weeks ago, there was an in-game request to take a survey about MKX Mobile. While I didn't have time to actually take the survey, I did glance over it, and there was a question: "What characters would you like to see in MKX Mobile?" It wasn't multiple choice, though--you just typed the name of your desired character into the blank. These new Twitter polls could be about picking extra characters for the mobile game.

Yeah, but he is also the first one to reveal MK9 as Trilogy redone. Plus he was actually the first one to discover/publish the voice casting sheets in late 2009/early 2010 when MK9 was still in deep developement. Do not forget, also, that both Kai and Reiko were supposed to have a cameo role in the early draft of the story, before switching them with Bo' and (maybe) Rain.
Not that I believe blindly my source, but I got the feeling that he HAS some real insider access and he is forced to mix real infos with bullshits to avoid troubles, because he has a lot of NDAs to respect. He even asked me to not reveal his job.
Plus he is a troll and he knows how passionate I am for the MK lore, so he could easily set me up.

Interesting thoughts. The skeptic in me says that Ed Boon is just bored and using the poll system on Twitter for the hell of it, but I hold out a teeny tiny glimmer of hope that we'll get at least a couple more playable characters to finish the MKX DLC for good and end on a high note rather than the KP2 that we got and left a sour taste in a small chunk of the hardcore fanbase's mouths.
Time will tell. I am awfully curious about the reports of Pesina doing more mocap though.

Believe it or not but NRS has almost finished working on Injustice 2. The game secretly revealed one year ago. The Batman v Superman half-fiasco (critic wise, at least ) made them change some if their plans. This year E3 will show very interesting things.
Unless things have changed, Injustice 2 or whatever is called is a reality.

I too believe Ed is burnt out on MK. He doesn't "hate" it, absolutely not...but he MUST be burnt out. For nearly 25 years, it has been his primary focus of work. He was in the gaming industry even before then - MK wasn't his first hurrah, it was just the first game he worked on where he had full creative control along with Tobias. He's passionate about MK, no doubt...and it became his ultimate legacy. It's pretty much all he's worked on, with a few exceptions like The Grid and Injustice, for 25 years. You may love what you do, but work is work. And work sucks.
As far as these polls, again the timing is interesting. Lastfighter and I both have sources, but any info from them could always be taken with a grain...or truckload...of salt. However, both have indicated that there's more content coming for MKX.

but if your so 'burnt out' its not really our fault, MK made you who you are, i did not even know they made other games other than Mk and now Inj.
but instead of being money grabbers (which will never stop him/his team) they could have easily put in the characters we wanted so people did not have to complain the entire year.
Fujin was there but yet they don't add him, they had Sareena, Rain, Frost etc etc they could've made the roster bigger then it was with the new people. but instead they gave us people for dlc some liked and some hated so if he is tired of making MK cause its all he does well next time make the game with the people we ask for, get polls voting for people and if anything add in some dlc for other characters like for an ex (if mk11 Liu and Kitana are not playable but bosses and people want them make them extra dlc)

Doubtful. If it's not characters, it's story. If it's not story, it's gameplay. If it's not gameplay, it's stages. MK fans will ALWAYS find something to complain about.

they were just examples, bad or good, usually what i say on here gets ignored for the most part. i'm just saying MK made ED who he is now its not our fault he puts out MK every 2-4 yrs he could easily made other games. so we are not forcing him to do this he knows MK sells well so he continues on his own. also its MK i did not need Jason, Leatherface, Alien nor Predator in the game (to be honest) if he wanted Horror Icons in a game he couldve got some kind of deal and made a Horror Game and somehow with the money im sure it would've got he could pay off those other companies, it's not like he would be giving the other icons bad name.
i get people liked the guest i don't mind them as much but alien sucks it is too slow trying to play as it so i just don't care for alien anymore. but i like to have complete game so not having some dlc wouldve bugged me. thank god the costumes for the characters are not all listed cause i still needed Liu, Kung's Revenants and Johnny's Hot Shot, but oh well
plus he makes MK every 2-4 yrs how is he burned out making them he isn't making them every yr, (which was the examples of the COD, GOW) games i meant look at the gaps of MK compare to these games.
anyways MK11 should focus back to only MK characters, continue with the MKX storyline and just make it better. if Cassie is the new Liu then make her the new Champion and stick with it.

Maybe it's not so much that he's burnt out on MK by being a long, sucessful series, but more on all the fanatical fan demands & bickering.
Imagine how you'd feel if you made/wrote something, and everybody kept asking you to change shit. Soon enough it's not the original work you intended. Sure there's revisions n edits, that's part of the process. Sometimes it's like people want a complete rewrite from scratch, but then it would be mostly their idea, far from what you wanted, and where it was headed in the first place.
Folks were planning what they wanted in MK11 before X was released. Things take fucking time! I've said before attention spans, and patience have gotten cut way too short in this digital age of instant info/communication. People act like they can shit out the next game a few months after the last release. They test/try to fix flaws, they work on other shit, they have fucking lives. God forbid they miss or forget something, which they will. They're not perfect like you fans.

A solid answer one way or the other would be great. I'd love more stuff, but I know it takes work. If they aren't releasing any new content, then difinitively say so, so people wont get disappointed getting hyped over daydreams n fanfiction.
Though some still act like spoiled children, we're not giddy excited kids anymore, we're disgruntled angry geezers. We don't have time for mindgames anymore.

it's because people are never happy. MKX has now officially been out for a year and since the release and leaks, and roster people have been bitching even with this 'poll voting thing' that he or she wasnt in the game. so yeah we are all spoiled. if we don't get what we want we bitch about it until its handed to us
no game/movie/tv show is 100% perfect you can play/watch them alot and find flaws. but by far MKX has been amazing (to me) the designs,gameplay have been fun/great
i love how the females are still sexy but not in bikinis (even though they need to work on Kitana's face -_-)
nowadays when we spend so much on games and stuff i think we expect more so when they force us to drop 50-80 dollars for a game, (more if you buy the limited edition ones) and then they drop dlc and forcing you (by chose) to pay another 20-30 bucks in a way we can some what bitch cause if i wasn't the type to want the complete version of a game i wouldnt have cared to get the Guest they are not MK to me, plus when you have 2 mutes its just pointless for the intros.
and if you were talking to me about why i don't post much its cause what i say gets ignored, or i get attacked to where i don't want to come back and post. and yes i know everyone has lives but he has other guys on his team who can help him out with stuff, while ED goes and makes ideas for other games his other team mates can promote whatever game they are releasing and Ed can be interviewed for the big guys or w/e we don't need to see him everytime. he can easily tell those guys what to say when they are asked certain questions.
i've played MKX since i got it for ps4, to me i just only complain there wasn't enough females, so instead of predator, jason, leatherface and alien i would've loved to see sareena, jade, skarlet, sheeva, frost w/e in their place, it bugs me that the select screen D'Vorah is the only female on the bottom line but i don't attack NRS/Ed about that but more females would've been nice.

The MK kommunity is never happy. They complain about every little detail rather than discuss. It's supposed to be an exchange of ideas, not barbs, insults, and lists of shit you hate, and claim you can do better.

lol that is true when i was trying to defend NRS people told me to stfu or thought i worked for NRS and was on here trying to make people like them again
but thats with everything. sf5 is out they messed up and people attacked. i don't blame them but they were probably forced to bring it out earlier cause i swear when i pre ordered it it said march 16 or whatever not feb 16.
people have their own opinions i get that, but you hate a game cause Fujin was not in it or Rain i've said it alot on here when i have post that NRS/ED chose the roster based on their story modes yes fujin was there for a second but maybe they keeping him for mk11 or maybe they are morons. yes we fought against Rain, i too thought he be a dlc or some secret way to get him or unlocking him with his new design but they chose not to, Mileena died but yet they kept her in, Baraka dies and they turn him into Alien (kinda pointless) with the guest characters if they dont want to do huge variations for characters we want then add Baraka as a fourth variation to alien, or make it like triborg add li mei/ rain/ sareena/ fujin/ frost who ever as the main 3 and then have a fourth one and what they can do is give them their own brutalities and 2 fatalities with a stage and a set of moves. thats how they can add these people without over thinking giving these guys 3 variations
then for mk11 do whatever they plan to do. i would not care to pay for Rain again give him some updated moves and id be fine, same with skarlet, etc etc

A lot of games get pushed out early for sales competition, which is stupid.
A finished, polished product is far more valuable than buggy, rushed n unfinished products.
Not all of them, but some greedy companies can then cash in on fixes later that should've been in from the start. Initially cut stuff sometimes gets released as dlc later on. Hopefully it's not purposely done to get more money, hopefully it doesn't get worse in the future. Not all dlc is a cash grab.

A kombat pack with the poll winners and two other most requested characters would be nice....but I'm not betting on it at all. I'm honestly burned out on even the possibility of getting excited for things regarding this game.

At the end of their PLANNED DLC for Injustice (Lobo, Batgirl, Scorpion, Zod), Ed did make a poll on his twitter (probably not twitter based poll but one that linked to a poll web site), asking fans which character they'd like to see... If I remember correctly, there was only one for which Zatanna was the winner. I don't think Martian Manhunter was in any polls, it was just a given that he would be in since Ed kept trolling and hinting on him. There was even a little tease at the end of a trailer for Injustice with MMH at the end with his background model.
This doesn't go to say that Kombat Pack 2 was unplanned. I'm sure in the back of their minds even before they made KP1, they probably knew they were going to make a KP2, but there probably weren't any concrete plans. Hell, it took practically 6 months to get 4 characters out.
If there are 2 more characters coming, they'd probably announce it at least 4 months before their release, and it probably will be to tide us over a little bit before their next project, presuming it's Injustice 2 to tie in with the Justice League movie due next year.
The last Kombat Kast which showed off Alien, promised us we would "soon" hear about a fan service. There is something on the horizon whether it be big or small, could be extra costumes at the least, or a couple extra characters (Noob and Jade).
One thing is for sure, they NEVER said that MKXL is the last piece of MKX and there is the "fan service" thing, so let's see what happens. ESL Season 3 finals will be in June, cross your fingers for a reveal by then.
