The people complaining about what people complain about on A FORUM are what makes this experience so unenjoyable.

I mean seriously, what else do fans talk about? We had a comic that's literally served no purpose, we have kombat pack 2 that we know zero about, and we have a game that was handed to us six months ago.

Expressing disdain or your praise for the game is all considered discussion. If you're mad that many MKO users don't like what is going on, then maybe in this arena you're on the wrong side of things OR you're just in the wrong place.

Personally, I've never understood how people don't understand people who complain on forums because 1) Nothing in this franchise especially is ever going to be perfect so there'll always be something somebody doesn't like and 2) It's the internet people. It's been around long enough. You know how it works by now.

Besides, there are complaints and grievances in every fan base. That's just how the world works. To point the finger at MK's and say we're so terrible with it is frankly a little bullshit. Especially if you go over and watch other fanbases after big events happen. For instance, the Batman fan community bitch for months and months over how shitty the game launch was handled for Arkham Knight, how shitty the tank game play was and how they paid for a 40 dollar season pass that features skins, race tracks and 10 minute vignettes.

As for MKX, I don't play it anymore. I haven't seriously sat down and enjoyed it since early September. The last time I touched it was only to play the Halloween tower. It got boring to me and I can honestly say MK9 had more lasting appeal, probably due solely to nostalgia. There IS a real problem with MKX in the area of a lack of arenas, a lack of diversity in the roster (I don't care how good the characters play, if there are 8 members of a specific class in one game whether it be Special Forces or ninjas or cyborgs or demons or Shaolin or what have you, that's not diversity... that's too many of something), a lack of a good netcode and a lack of other factors to me that, together, make an MK game have a long lasting appeal if those factors are all firing on all cylinders.

As good as MKX is as a game, as much fun as it is when everything goes smoothly, as great as it is when the engine handles and the graphics look amazing and the core gameplay is smooth, if that lasting appeal is not there for me then there is a legitimate problem no matter how much I love this franchise when there are still other games that I can repeatedly come back to time and time again, no matter the genre, and pick it up and enjoy it like its my first time playing it. And thus, if other people feel the same way then there's reason to debate it and what better place than a forum. So people complaining about complaints is just as ridiculous in my eyes. Are there people that take it one step too far into the dramatics? Of course, it's the internet. But this game is far from perfect.

The bitching over Arkham Knight's PC version are more than rightful.
That's an intelligent and constructive criticism.

Not the "8 characters are Special Forces" when the real SF characters are just 4, maybe 5 with Jax, although he isn't part of it anymore.

Guess what?

Mk Deadly Alliance had Sonya, Jax, Kenshi, Cyrax ( more or less the same number as mkx) plus Hsu Hao which was introduced as a traitor of OIA.

This, not counting female Sub-Zero jr, crocodile Reptile, Meat with a mask, Cinder from Killer Instict and of course Mokap, which is self explanatory.

I don't recall complains about MkDa' s roster.
Speculation is enjoyable discussion.
There have been complaints about every game, some complaints ARE valid.

The dissing, and negativity get old & tired.
People get accused of being on Boon or NRS` dick simply because they don`t complain.

I know I'm probably going to get shit thrown at me after this post, but I don't really fucking care. All I ever see on this site is this with these kinds of threads:

"I like Mortal Kombat"
"I don't like Mortal Kombat"
And the lack of common sense.
This guy voiced his opinion like we all do and the amount of stupidity I see afterwards because some tend to "not agree" with what he said is a reason why I rarely visit this place anymore. Sure, I might not agree with all he said but hey, I'm not going to act like a giant dick towards the guy because he'd rather see a "variety" of other characters or that he has some beef against the company. You don't like the series? Okay, good for you!

I waited a couple of days to write this just to see if this thread gets more dumb replies and it has.

If we're going to get down to the real nitty gritty of the roster issues then realistically MKX has 6 Special Forces characters (Sonya, Kenshi, Cassie, Jacqui, Cage and Jax). Jax technically speaking comes out of retirement to help find his daughter and I'm assuming they then give him some sort of clearance to be involved in the op. If you want to get REALLY technical about it, then it's 8 as the same excuse for Jax could be given to Takeda and Kung Jin as they're officially part of Cassie's strike force. The point is, they run under the SF bandwagon. They're as much a part of it as Cyrax was when he joined for a brief period of time.

And still to that point, 8 is too many. If you want to count Deadly Alliance's then that's 5 which is still just in the borderline range of unacceptable in my eyes. if MKX had 5, that could've been 3 other different types of characters that could've been placed into the roster and could've gone to a cyborg or another Black Dragon member or hell, another Edenian.

As for remembering complaints about MK:DA's roster, I wasn't around the site at that point in time so I can't comment on it. I got here around the announcement of Deception.

Kung Jin is a white lotus, shaolin monks. He doesn't have a uniform. He doesn't use lasers, firearms, rocket launchers or anything technologic. He barely speaks english. He uses freaking bow, used as a staff too. He is a thief, for God's sake!

So although he cooperates with SF he isn't part of it. He even refused to follow Cassie's laed during the Lin Kuei Base mission without going any trial for insubordination. And even considering him part of the Special Forces, which is not entirely accurate, he doesn't play and look anything like a soldier.

The same goes for Takeda.

Johnny Cage joined SF only to spend some time with Cassie, as stated in his own bio, and in his primary costume wears a gun he doesn't use gameplay wise. Not even in cut-scenes.

Jax retired and joined briefly as an observer, or something like that. He even refused to take command of the operation.

The only Special Forces characters are Sonya, Cassie and Jacqui and they act, look and play as they were part of it.

On a brighter side, I am more than positive towards opinion exchange and constructive criticism too. But Again, I cannot take seriously someone complaining for Smoke's death when, few days ago the same guy whined about the whole death & resurrection of too many characters.

Oh, if you are not satisfied with the net-code, then you're right. That's a sensed criticism for instance.

For one, I didn't like the lack of a 300 missions, off-line tower challenge with small gameplay variations in it. But this is a minor hiccup.

For the rest I think that MK X is easily the best game in the series. And I am a day one fan, since 1992. And, in case someone's wondering, this DOESN'T make me more of a fan than anyone else.
On the contrary, new blood is welcomed.

If everyone plays differently than another person from the same team, wouldn't that be considered a GOOD thing?

I don't get the complaint that's being made. If no one plays the same, isn't that good? Or, is it because there's a lot of people on the same team, it prevents other characters from having a chance, such as everyone's precious Fujin?

For me, it's more of a story-telling preference. I couldn't give two shits about the Special Forces as their story elements have always been boring as shit. Bringing guns to a mystical power battle is lame as fuck, imo, so I can't really speak on the actual gameplay angle.
lastfighter89 Wrote:

I know what you're trying to say but I think you didn't grasp my point. My point is they work FOR the Special Forces in this game. Technically speaking, anyone can come and go from that group as its just a title, but in this game they all work for the Special Forces. Yes, even Kung Jin and Takeda. Technically, they're on loan to the SF if you want to look at it that way, and working in a special ops mission with them. And I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they're with the SF next game yet again....if they return for the next installment that is.

That is what bugs me. Now, if Takeda had been alongside Scorpion the entire time or Kung Jin working solely with Raiden or Bo' Rai Cho to try and reclaim Kung Lao's soul or something and they all come together at the end to band together against Shinnok and his forces, that is one thing. Maybe then it wouldn't bug me as much. But considering they all got lumped into a massive SF gang bang for this game when we could've had someone from another camp, someone that would help cover more bases to help the story feel more widespread than it actually is, then it would've been slightly better in my eyes.

It's not that big of a deal in general, just something that really bugs me every time I think about it.
They all work for Raiden. Cassie's team, including non SF members are the next generation of Earthrealm defenders. They only work together to defend Earth, and because their families are aquainted. They aren't military. The military was pretty much fodder, and transportation. You don't take orders from goons, lackeys.

Kung Jin can barely speak English? WTF?! That's all I heard commin outta his mouth.

Then again, I'm not playing the original Japanese version or voice settings...

No, the stupididty is that if someone dislike's what you like you call it stupidity. If the OP is let down by the decisions of NRS, he has all the right to express his feeling/opinion. That is why we have a forum. Maybe you only like to talk about things that are done well (things you think are done well), nice, do that, don't post in here.

If you liked MK because of the things that made MK MK it's not so hard to see why ppl are let down with the reboot.... you say am a fan since the beginning of the series. im srs curious what made you a fan of MK in the first place than? The music? The characters? The stages? The story? i guess it's none of < ---- as this is your favorite MK by far.

If someone has mixed feelings about MKx it may be bc of the reboot and different direction NRS is taking MK to. Don't blame long time fans that were used to a different MK game. Just respect one's opinion negative or positive.

I know alot of ppl are prudent for saying something negative on MKO bc of the childish reactions like posted in here. Guess what, NRS cant improve stuff if it's not mentioned.

You're just blabbering a lot of non-sense.
I loved mk for its characters, atmosphere, musics, gameplay and so on. And I've found all these things IMPROVED IN MK X ( maybe except for the music, but it's more of a personal taste). Denying this is beyond delusional.

And again, for the millionth time, crying for roster diversity and then complaining for Smoke's absence it's just plain stupid. It's not even an opinion. It's lack of coherence.
The music is a huge improvement from MK9's soundtrack which was very lacking when it
had to make new original songs instead of covering old tracks.

Sure you had Shang Tsung's Garden but then you have:
The Bell Tower
The Desert
Flesh Pits
Graveyard
Hell
The Courtyard at Night
Kahn's Coliseum
Rooftop at Night
Shao Kahn's Throne
The Street

Look at that big list, now do you remember what any of them sounded like?
Because I don't, it was so generic and bland.
And From what I watched of Injustice I didn't even hear a soundtrack besides using Depeche Mode as the end credits..
Did it even have one?

At least with MKX I remember and enjoy the little parts of a large part of the stage music
Due to them changing between rounds:

R1 of The Outworld Marketplace
R2 of The Kove
R1 of The Dead Woods
R1 of Destroyed City
R1/R2 of Emporer's Courtyard
R1 of The Jinsei Chamber
R1 of The Jungle
R1 of Quan-Chi's Fortress
R1 of Sky Temple

The closest you can get to KI/MK Movie theme is MK3 which was fast paced and leaned on Techno.
So If that's what you want than I'd agree with you in wanting that back because Vanilla MK3's music stands out above the rest.

But I think Dan Forden did a great job of stepping his game up after 9 and knocking it out of the park.

So for me it goes:

Best:
MK3

Great:
MK1
MK2
MK4
Deadly Alliance
Deception
Some of MK9
MKX

Bad
Trilogy (It's amazing how slowing down the music can make it more crappy)
Armageddon
Most of MK9

There's nothing very memorable about the MKX soundtrack. Not that it's bad, just incredibly underwhelming in terms of making the fights more exciting. They just sort of exist as background noise.

I remember when the trailers were still coming out and everybody liked the music in them. It gave people hope for the in game soundtrack. Shame none of that music was used for the game.

Biggest crime though, was the song in this trailer wasn't the character select theme. It was perfect.

Edit: Ok that song wasn't made by WB so nevermind. Too bad because it has everything a good character select theme should have.
No offense but that would be a terrible character select theme for Mortal Kombat X.

Awful. Awful stuff. It's the type of shitty track you would expect in a bargain bin fighting game. Or an EA game. The funny thing about the track in most of the trailers (y'know the one that starts at the beginning) is that it starts off alright but then as it goes on it starts to get progressively worse adding beats into it.

The music was fine in trailers but if they were used in the game proper, I'd certainly remember them...but in the wrong way because of how terrible they sound and how they don't fit at all.

Sort of like that rap song from the Debut trailer. What a shitshow that was..Thanks but no thanks.

Outside of MK3 and a few tracks off of DA and D, MK's soundtrack has always been dark and brooding or "forgettable" to others, as far back as MK2.

Since when assumption are mandatory?
Opiniom: something that relies on the thoughts of a person.
Liking: something that relies on personal tastes.

Now, someone is free to express his own opinion, but do not claim it to be a mandatory sentence.

I, for one, didn't like the techno soundtrack of the movie and the subway stage, I'd go more with the spooky musics, like the cathedral/temple stage. Mk4 , despite its flaws, had the best soundtrack of the series. But that's just me, I'm not going to shove the statement above through someone's throat.

Btw, I really enjoyed the Kove music in MK X.

The intro and the character select screen musics of mk4/gold are among my favourites in the whole mk saga.
If you're referring to me, you misinterpreted what I was saying.
I'm not shoving anything through anyone's throat, I'm not Liu Kang. tongue

A really good MK4 great track was The Snake Lair.
Also The Prison. Stage sucked but the track was great.

Nope. As another user stated, I don't see a lot of diversity in the roster. Arguing that Takeda and Kung Jin are not SF is "delusional" to me. I am severely disappointed with the roster. I for the life of me cannot understand the logic in including Tanya and Rain, allies of Mileena (who herself had a major plot line), in the story but not as a part of the roster. I would love for someone from NRS to tell me what the reasoning was behind having Tanya play a role in the story, but then include her later as DLC. As a relatively unknown character, I can't even see that being a smart decision marketing wise.

I also can't say the atmospheres were improved, because there were no stage fatalities. They looked great (just like MK9 did for its time), but removing stage fatalities and including the interactive objects left a sour taste in my mouth. Not only that, but there were so few of them.

Gameplay can go either way. I play MK for fun, I play with characters that I like not those that are top tier or easy to learn. Unfortunately the variation system didn't do it for me. It worked better for some than others, and sadly I feel that characters I enjoy suffered from this.

...but I like MKX. It has blood. There are some good fatalities. It serves its purpose. It's not the best or my favorite entry, and I definitely don't play it as much as I had hoped to, but I do pop it in from time to time to hear Mileena be sassy.

Different strokes for different folks. It's all good.

But lemme tell you why I think it's a better fit than the current one. The character select screen is a meta game in itself. (Who are they picking? How does my pick stack against their pick? Etc.) It's the game before the game. With that in mind, you want a theme that builds excitement towards the fight.

The current one doesn't do that at all. It's just there. It sounds good but it doesn't pop or create any feeling of anticipation before a match. Now sure the track I posted doesn't fit, but it's certainly more memorable and exciting. Maybe the problem with MK's music is that it tries too hard to fit or be appropriate. That's why I think the MK3 music was so memorable, because it was something new.

And it's not just the character select music that needs help. The entire soundtrack while decent, is just too ambient. Music in fighting games should hype you up and make the fights more exciting. The music in MKX fails on both accounts. I'm not saying we need all MK music to be dance tracks or electro, but they definitely need some "oomph".

Just take a discussion, extrapolate a part of it and put it in a different context.
The "beyond delusional" part was referred to the game improvements. They are many and visible.

Oh, Kung Jin himself denies he is part of the special forces during one of his intro dialogues with Sonya.
