Ever since the game launched I had my eyes on the online stats. Now it`s almost a mounth since launch, and most of the casuals left the game, the chat rooms have lost half the people that used to be in playing, so it`s the perfect time to take those online stats and see who are the most popular characters.

If you think I`m wrong just go and check the list yourself, they appear at the online menu, at the left corner of the screen. The numbers will probabily change a little, but the order will be the same. It took me around 1 hour to get all of them.

Let`s start.

1- Scorpion 55,096,249
2- Sub Zero 46,529,104
3- Takeda 24,971,734
4- Johnny Cage 23,755,107
5- Cassie Cage 22,615,701
6- Liu Kang 20,160,090
7- Jax 19,586,967
8- Sonya 18,507,266
9- Kenshi 17,695,872
10- D`Vorah 16,274,826
11- Erron Black 15,646,042
12- Ermac 14,130,895
13- Kung Lao 14,123,518
14- Kitana 14,028,376
15- Mileena 13,956,792
16- Raiden 13,267,860
17- Kung Jin 11,954,436
18- Goro 11,833,212
19- Kotal Kahn 11,079,097
20- Reptile 8,533,727
21- Ferra/Torr 7,880,805
22- Jacqui Briggs 7,441,625
23- Quan Chi 4,783,073
24- Kano 4,647,371
25- Shinnok 4,100,731

It`s obvious that after Scorpion and Sub Zero most characters are in order of who is easier to win with.

Shinnok is obviously the last one, given the fact that you need to beat Story Mode to play as him, Kano and Quan Chi are among the least played just like in MK9, I`m starting to think that they just keep showing up because Netherrealm likes them.

Mileena has much better numbers than in MK9, her better gameplay reflects here, she is nearly tied with Kitana, which proves that both have nearly the same level of popularity,

Jacqui wasn`t able to become very popular, hope that doesn`t means she will be out of the net game.

Also, Raiden and Kung Jin had a little problem with their numbers, they simply reseted 2 weeks after launch, so they should be a little above were they curently are.

LOL it's so hilarious to me that Quan Chi and Kano are both bottom last again.

I hope they actually release an official constantly updating list.

Ah... I was gonna say that I'm shocked how low Kung Jin is considering how often I've seen him in the various streams I watched. Was also surprised how low Raiden is, though I haven't seen him as much as Kung Jin. That weird stats reset explains it though... A bit shocked to see Johnny so high, I've barely seen him in any streams.

Like redman said, it would be great to have an official constantly updating list (without random resets) easily available.

I'm also lol'ing @ Kano and Quan Chi.

Since Shinnok had to be unlocked through the story mode, he's definitely at a disadvantage.

Kind of surprised to see that Sonya is so high up on the list. I don't have the game yet, but from what I've seen in the forums here I thought people didn't like her gameplay.

She is just hard to use, that's what I think anyway.

She's not as easy to play as other characters, and a lot of her big attacks require a lot of set-up. An X-ray that's a counter is probably another strike against her (unless you're fighting a very aggressive opponent).

So by NRS new trend, from number 20 and up won't be playable in the next game?

Kano, Quan Chi and Shinnok are probably out just based on storyline moving forward. Jacqui I think will be back as she's part of the new main hero team. I wouldn't be surprised if they heavily retooled her though. Ferra/Torr I could see as a one-and-done but Boon seems very fond of them. I doubt Reptile is going anywhere.

I doubt Quan Chi and Shinnok will be in the next one duo to Story Mode, those stats just confirm that.

Ferra/Torr are really useless in the Story, but the developers seem to like them, same with Kano, he isn't popular but they love him, he was even in MKvsDC, also he was one of the least played in MK9 but returned to this one.

Anyone hoping that Jax, Johnny, Sonya and Kenshi won't return to the next one should get their hopes down, they are all in the top 10, there is no way they will be left out.

Jacqui could go either way, she may just show up as a NPC.

I wonder if the rankings will shift any after a few EVO tournaments.

I remember a lot of low-played characters got some big upswings once tournament players started winning matches with them.

This clearly includes story mode usage of characters. Jacqui stats probably got a reset as well because her numbers should be higher just by story mode use.

So don't think that characters like D'vorah and Jax are popular, they are high only because they have a chapter in story mode.

Also Mileena would be near Kitana in MK9 as well, the only reason she wasn't is because she wasn't playable in story mode.

We're deciding who will be in the next game based on who is most played? That isn't accurate at all. In fact, it's the funniest thing I've seen all day. Someone mentioned that Kano & Quan Chi were the least played last game. They're back aren't they? NRS isn't going to choose who is in the next game based on popularity. I'm almost certain that a handful of 3D-era characters will be in the next game, and most casuals can't name one.

Most consider Liu Kang, Kitana, and Kung Lao in because of popularity, considering they do just about nothing in story mode. But, you can't really have an MK game without them, can you? (Don't even bother giving me a list of what games they weren't in). Liu and Kitana did, in fact, have some story significance, and NRS is setting them up for something big come next game. And Kung Lao is in because Kung Jin is.

I didn't need to write all that, but my point is: don't base a character's inclusion off of some online stats (talking to you residentfan). tongue

I dropped Sonya because i only like covert ops and don't really have the time to learn her well because of my job.

Poor Kano, he's my main now, but i knew he'd be low again.

And just like i said before the game's launch, i saw from miles away that Shinnok would be dead last.

I through that in the begining too, but Jacqui's numbers were low ever since launch. Also, if that was the case all characters that have a Story Mode chapter would be above the others, Liu Kang and Kenshi wouldn't manage to stay so high.

I don't think they counted in MK9 either, otherwise Stryker, Nightwolf, Kabal and Cyber Sub Zero would be above Baraka and Reptile.

As for Mileena, Kano and Reptile are at the button here, and they were above her in MK9.

I think it plays a part in a character's inclusion yes, otherwise why is Kitana playable when Sindel isn't? Both don't matter to the story, but Sindel has a stronger presence than Kitana.

Sheeva was last in MK9, where is she now?

Of course that's not the only thing that matters, but it factors in the decision.

Oh, come on! Seriously? Who doesn't like Quan Chi??

He's one of the best characters to play with.
Seeing those petty human characters above him makes me ashamed of fellow MK players. There, I said it, crucify me for not respecting other people's opinions if you want, but if an overwhelming majority says that a thing is right it doesn't mean that it truly is and they're not morons (just like in the case of presidential elections or box-office movies)

Yeah, I get it, the majority dictates the market, time for me to shut up...

But I just hope this doesn't, in the future, become a game addressed mostly to morons who laugh at every Cage joke

I don't think character popularity will necessarily affect the storyline they have planned. They don't seem to care all that much. They left out tons of super popular characters this time around (Kabal, Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, Noob Saibot, etc), included developer favorites nobody played like Quan Chi and Kano, and it's their biggest launch to date.

These figures are interesting, but I don't think they're going to impact the roster for MKXI very much.

Me. I hate Quan Chi, but I don't hate him the same way I hate somebody like Dairou or Jarek. I hate him because his past and current actions in the actual story make me hate him, which means he is doing a good job as a villain, imo.

Still though, f*** that guy, glad he got his ass kicked 3 times and finally killed in this game lol

Sektor and Kabal were among the last ones in MK9.

It won't affect the storyline, but could affect who is playable.

Also, it's funny that Quan Chi and Mileena are, if memory serves right, the least played in 9 that made it to MKX, and both ended up dead.

As for Kano, Quan Chi and Mileena getting in, Netherrealm loves them. They even managed to give space to Quan in MKvsDC and he was supposed to be the first DLC.

Also, I think you guys are not understanding what I'm saying. I'm saying that it plays a part in who gets in, not that it's the only thing that matters.

Sektor and Kabal were tourney-popular, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyhow, I just think there's no way one of the four new kids sits out next game, no matter how low Jacqui's numbers are.

I hate him too, but I LOVE to hate him, not hate to hate him. He's a great villain.

I mean, just look at this smug, slimy, sinister bastard...

Despite being a total, disappointing pushover in MKX, he still remains my favorite MK villain, even more so than Shao Kahn. He's just such a dark, sadistic black arts scumbag that I hope he winds up in every game.

And if someone doesn't like him... if he's in every game, he can still be your Fatality-dummy.
