The 7 Deadly Sins

Many people on this forum want characters based on elements (i'm included) or about some form of powers (magnetizm, light, gravity) but I have a question of a different type.

Would you like characters based on the 7 deadly biblical sins?

Vanity/Pride
Sloth
Envy
Wrath
Gluttony
Lust
Greed

Ok, Envy and lust are pretty much taken by Mileena, Tanya and some others, Scorpion goes for Wrath all the way, Greed is probably something Shao Kahn and Quan Chi can talk about a lot.

But what about Sloth, Gluttony and most importantly Vanity/Pride?

I think MK is ready for its own Vega-character, drown in its self-love, mostly about its appearance, not pride in the sense of liking its own style like Johnny Cage does.

For me Johnny Cage isn't the vain character of the series, as he's a good-guy, and vanity to me is something for the evil, self-absorbed types. I don't really think Tanya is that vain, she's self-absorbed but not with mirrors and her own appearance (at least never seen such a thing for her)

I would like a male character (evil) that is very vain like Vega is, every game/movie has its vain-characters! MK should gain one! Especially since there are so many new guys in this one!

What do you think about the sins? And what characters should have which sins? Would you like characters based on the missing sins?

Sloth would be kind of weird... Made me think about Slaking.. if you know what I mean haha

Well in some way Shao Kahn would be sloth and Shinnok, they have many minions that do the work for them.

Rain could be the vain character. He already has the narcissism. But instead of being obsessed with beauty he's obsessed with himself in general.

I don't think Mileena is envious/jealous on Kitana in this new timeline. I mean, she is served everything on a golden platter this time around while Kitana is the one looked upon as disposable. And I think Rain is the perfect guy for being the narcissistic, self-loving "Vega" type of character. He truly believes he deserve to be the one on the throne and rule them all, because of his divine heritage.

Yes I know Rain would make the perfect Vanity character, but the fact is that Boon doesn't like him, and he's not the type of looking into the mirror just because he's so vain.

I hope to see a characters so vain it will be said in every conversation he has at the start of each battle.

I'm always obsessed by vain characters, my first favorite character ever was Vanity Smurf, then Vega, then Mileena (which was the first in line to not be that vain) and Zarbon is the only character I like from Dragonball Z, just because he's vain.

But again Rain would be extremely fitting for the appearance-vainity role together with Tanya (as female vain character), but i'm sure boon won't do it anyway.

So a new vain character is my best hope. Long blonde hair (longer than Kobra) is most fitting for a vain male character mostly.

Catholic fanfiction from the late middle ages? Is this necessary?


Well, tehcnically you could work around it, almost all MK villains have some sort of vice. I would like to see how zou can work sloth into a martial art. because by practicing martial art, you are doing the very opposite.

Sloth actually has multiple meanings, not only the sleeping kind. Also the lazy-minions-slaves-summon type of sloth.

Teleporting can also be a form of sloth.

And that middle-ages stuff, is very popular in ALL media/movie/games and everything. Just watch Streetfighter, it has all 7 sins in there somewhere. Diablo uses it, Overlord, D&D and MANY MANY more, enough movies about the sins as well.

But I forgot, you rather like Li Mei of course. No words for that.

This is probably the most correct statement.
Sure, their hands are tied when it comes to following the rules they themselves have brought upon the realms, but even when punishing Shao Kahn, they basically just infused Raiden with their power and then let him do the dirty work while they just watched from beyond the sky.

Lazy Elder Gods are lazy.

Oh btw, sidenote. No time does the concept of seven virtues/vices ever come up in the Old/new testament. itás kinda like the fire and brimstone hell that Dante made up in Inferno.

What could potentially be interesting is to use non-christian values. Like how deference to elders and superiors is a "virtue", while disobedience is "sin" (quotations, becuse sin is not a concept in usual Chinese culture). Shame is a pretty big thing over there, even moreso than here under the thumb of the white bearded godhead.

I dont see this incorporating into a fighting game. However, This would make for a great comic arc, if we ever got a REAL MortaL Kombat comic line. I think about random side stories like this all the time. Make this happen WB!

Shazam actually fought the embodiment of the 7 deadly sins in his first TPB of the New52. It was pretty awesome.

Some variations seems to me a "what if" as the Grandmaster was a condition of Sub Zero in the old timeline. What are the three variations of Raiden?

Sub-Zero being sloth? Jade being Lust?

Really the only thing sloth on Sub-Zero is his colors... Light Blue/Blue in general are most the color for sloth. But Sub-Zero isnt' really lazy...

Jade is better off with Envy in that case, as Green is the color of envy, and Mileena for lust.

Strange little story.

Yeah, I don't get those two either. Jade isn't lustful. If anything, she is being arrogant, talking down to her opponent with a sarcastic flair. Also, Mileena isn't envious in this new timeline, though it fits her in the old timeline. As for Sub-Zero being Sloth... I don't get it. How? How is he being Sloth? :S

But yeah, that Scalia guy sure didn't know what he was talking about.
