I think it was KungLaodoesntsuck that mentioned it before, but the sad truth is that with MK's current status (total focus on gameplay), if we want something superbly in-depth with the lore then it's gonna have to be MKSM/Mythologies style.

While this is true, if they ever did take the alt. dimension route, I'm positive most of whom we'd see would just be glorified cameos and their appearance being justified with a single line of dialogue a-piece, if that.

However, it'd be better than absolutely nothing. lol

I won't argue there lol. Even though their roles were minimal, I still got giddy as fuck when characters like Frost, Sareena, Bo' Rai Cho, Li Mei and Fujin popped up in story mode. I thoroughly enjoyed that bone they threw me haha.

To NRS' credit though, they are learning. Improving. Taking in fan's input and building on what previously didn't work or wasn't well received. I have no doubt that we'll see many exciting faces come next game. Whether it be by story cameo, or playable roster slot.

And hopefully they learn that the NPC route, while controversial, was a Godsend and maybe if it's still the same type of engine we could fight more faces who aren't on the roster from MK9 and MKX. That would actually be a really good gauge of potential DLC.

I want to say the problem with these NPCs was that it's been so long since we'd seen some of them that many of us were moderately expecting at least a small handful in the initial roster. So it was a bit of a slap in the face in the "look but don't touch" sense.

But now, since we're slowly being reintroduced to these characters, they'll have more play room in the next installment. Flood gates are open, so to speak lol.

Just for grins and giggles, I'd like to see them approach it by giving priority to the most popular characters of the later games. So, it'd look a little something like -

Bo' Rai Cho, Li Mei, Sareena, Kenshi, Quan Chi, Tanya, Fujin, Reiko, and Havik for initial or DLC roster spot. Then have story mode littered with cameos of characters like Hotaru, Nitara, Tasia, Jarek, Frost, Kai, Ashrah, Kia, Jataaka, Shujinko, Taven, Daegon, K/Chameleon, Motaro, Onaga, Drahmin, Moloch, and others to slowly ease them back into people's view and possibly garner new fans, leading to more appearances down the road.

Yup. That's what I want. An Armageddon style story mode with all kinds of goodies buried in there.

If we take into consideration that Deadly Alliance takes places 10 years after MK1 and that Deception and Armageddon take place within the same month or close to that, we can have a broad idea of where we're at in the new timeline.

Armageddon happens after the Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Jax were saved but before the Reiko Accords were set.

Erron Black is out there with with the long life he got through Shang Tsung. He was never hired by Shao Kahn or Onaga, but like Tanya was retconned as working for the Deadly Alliance in her Deception bio I'm sure Shang Tsung found him some wet work during that time.

Ferra/Tor are part of another race of beasts. While Shao Kahn only liked Centaurs and Shokans, Kotal Kahn found loyalty in the Symbiotes. They were probably scavenging the wastelands. Without Kotal saving them from the Tarkatans, chances are they're dead.

Jacqui was never born. Jax never quit the Special Forces and he fought with his all might right until the end. Even if Jacqui was somehow in the few years between MK4 and MKDA, she'd be at most 7 years old.

Cassie was never born either for obvious reasons.

Takeda is a young boy living with Suchin. It's unclear when Kenshi joined the Special Forces in both timelines but there was no time for Red Dragon spying last time. They never killed Suchin and Kenshi never heard about them.

Kung Jin seems to be about as old as the rest of the new generation so I'd say he hasn't even left his home yet. I assume he's now living in america but still hasn't become a thief.

D'Vorah was seen during MK2 in a flashback and she joined Shao Kahn before the timeline switch, so she definitely was by his side. The events that made her join Shinnok never happened since it was during the comic book. I assume she fled when the Deadly Alliance "killed" Shao Kahn and could have been plotting by herself. In the extent of both timelines colliding, original timeline D'Vorah would be the most interesting character to develop, along with Kotal Kahn.

Kotal Kahn only aspired to the throne after Shao Kahn was killed and as his bio states, he looked up to Shao Kahn as a conqueror. I assume he was busy doing missions with Reiko during the original trilogy and whatever he planned to do after Shao Kahn's "demise" he never had the time to do, since Armageddon was just around the corner.

I wonder if D`Vorah has any connection with the Beetle Lair...

She does now. After Shao Kahn's defeat D'Vorah retreated to an abandoned temple that she rebuilt as a shrine to a god from her realm.

Kotal Kahn - Since he and his people, which were largely a warrior culture were loyal to Shao Kahn, it's likely he would've been fighting the war in Edenia after it was separated from Outworld. Whether he lived or died is uncertain - he may have switched sides to fight alongside Edenia once the Deadly Alliance took over. Maybe he fought for the Deadly Alliance. He seems more noble (at least in the comic), so I think he'd probably make amends with the Edenians and fight alongside them against the DA and the DK.

D'Vorah - her people are reclusive - once Kahn was defeated D'Vorah may have simply retreated back to her island realm. If w'ere going to look to the comic as canon, then she may never have pledged her allegiance to Shinnok and Quan Chi.

Ferra/Torr Didn't Kotal rescue them from a band of Tarkata in the wastelands? They likely would've been killed and were probably dead in the original timeline, but if that was also contingent upon the new timeline, then they probably simply existed as their race normally does. They didn't seem to have any major ties to the Kahnum.

Cassie was never born.

Jacqui may or may not have been born - we do not know of Jax's personal life in the original timelne. Vera, it seems, was also a Special Forces veteran. They may have known each other and been together in the previous timeline, hence Jacqui may have been born, but never went into the SF.

Takeda - if Takeda was born, he may have been killed by the Red Dragon along with his mother. If not, as that seems the be a new timeline twist, he may simply have lived a normal life, or Kenshi may not have even ever met his mother.

Kung Jin - it seems that of all the Kombat Kidz, Kung Jin most likely was alive in the original timeline. His bio states that their family fortunes collapsed after Kung Lao's death. Since Kung Lao did not die in the original timeline, that likely never happened, and Kung Jin probably led a normal life. I get the inclination that Kung Lao's death inspired Kung Jin to join the White Lotus. Do we know exactly how old Kung Jin is? He may very well be older than the rest of the Kombat Kidz.

Erron Black - Erron likely continued his service to Shang Tsung, and when Shang originally died, or whatever happened to him between DA and Deception, he may have simply become an outlaw for hire within Outworld, possibly traversing all the realms in search of contracts. I could see him being an agent of Havik.
