Whos Tri-Borg

Well, to me they had to go the "single variation = different character" route.
This way you'd had three classic characters. Give them three different movesets, endings, pre-fight intros, and one Fatality and two brutality each.
It's not extra work after all and you could apologize for the 4 guests "scandal".
Ps: cyber smoke was supposed to be dlc for MK9.

As a character or just MK3 skin, like Cyber Sub, Cyrax n Sektor?
If only they were still doing dlc for MK9, D'Vorah was shoehorned into that era by a cutscene in MKX. Plus Human Cyrax n Sektor never got MK 1-3 ninjer suits...
On topic, the Smoke variation could be his MK3 moveset(trident spear, teleport uppercut, airthrow, and invisibility) as they weren't dependant on his smokey powers introduced in later games.
Don't know if he captured n assimilated Enenra/revanant Smoke or it's based on data planned for Smoke, as some claim he wouldn't keep his smokey powers as a bot.
Would be a reason for his MK3 moves to return.

Yeah, according to Brian Chard's Twitter he is an original character and he has one set of dialogue, regardless of variation. No idea what the genesis is but he isn't just Smoke, Sektor and Cyrax.

God damn this is such a major bummer to hear. The cyborgs were the only part of the DLC I was remotely interested in. What a cheap and lazy decision on NRS's part. I wanna see what Cyrax and Sektor have to say to the rest of the cast and find out their story progression but now I getta hear a bunch of recyled/throw away dialog that has zero impact on anything with tri brog. Who the fuck gives a shit about Triborg??

Wonder if there is default skin if you do the (no variatio) trick.

There's no reason to think with the Lin Kuei's interest in cyborgs that they wouldn't go into the science of what makes these character's powers work. Once they've figured that out, making a profile for each character and backing them up on a hard drive to be downloaded into a cyborg shell later, could've been the Grandmaster's end game if there were more unwilling participants. How Tri-borg acquired these profiles is of interest. Sektor having a fail safe is the most likely scenario.
My interest lies in the possible future of this character. With such detailed files of how these characters work, could it be possible for one of these personalities to become self aware and take on the life of one of these profiles. Could be an interesting way of bringing back Smoke now that Enenra has taken his physical form. Of course I'm just spit balling, but I'd like the idea.

Cyberc Smoke is also a variant.

There's no future for this character. He and Tremor will go the way of Skarlet. One and done. A "fan character", nothing more.

Or he's a just a cheap gimmick to get all 3 cyborgs in the game?

As of right now, yes, he absolutely is. But is this community really so jaded that we can't just enjoy the what ifs that MK still has to offer?

Exactly. While this is a slightly off topic point, DBZ is another fave franchise of mine and games like Budokai 2 which featured a "what if" fusion of Yamcha and Tien (Tiencha), Raging Blast 2 which featured "what if" Super Saiyan 3 Broly and Vegeta are things I love. Non-canonical nods to the fans.
For me personally, I never played Special Forces, I never petitioned for Tremor, I don't use Twitter so I've never tweeted Boon but I fucking love Tremor. I also fucking love Skarlet. I'm certain I'm going to enjoy Tri-Borg.
And don't forget guys, Tremor and Skarlet both appeared in the MKX comic, technically making them canon characters, neither of them died either, meaning they definitely have potential to return in later MK installations.

I wouldn't put Triborg in the same category as Skarlet or Tremor. The thing about Skarlet and Tremor is they're unique. Triborg is literally Cyber Chameleon. There's nothing Triborg has that Cyrax, Sektor, or Smoke if he becomes a cyborg again couldn't do.
He's like Kira...

For now.
They could easily give him 3 separate powers in later installments. Also, the fact that you bring up Chameleon and Kira just proves that he has the potential to be in future installments, just like they were. (I know Armageddon had everyone, but it was still canonical, which is my point)

Triborg's whole gimmick is being Cyrax, Sektor, and Robo Smoke. You give him 3 separate powers and his whole existence is unnecessary. The only reason he's here is because Cyrax, Sektor, and Robo Smoke aren't.
(Not that his existence is necessary to begin with)

I love the what ifs. What if there was a Robot Smoke in MKX? Fuck yeah I'd love to see how he plays/what reason they came up for him to be there and am fine with him not being cannon. But Tri-Borg? Fuck that. They could have used the same exact robot voice for each variation and had them say different lines depending on the variation and I would have been down with that. Don't even need 3 times the dialog, just a few lines here and there to compliment the unique specials and appearances/color of each. But no they went the ultra lazy route and pulled an incredibly shitty and gimmicky character straight out of their asses. There is zero future for Tri-Borg. He will end up just like Chameleon. Fuck, he isn't even on Chameleons level because its 2015 and MK games don't have extremely limited memory that require them to rely on pallet swaps to begin with.
Glad they went all out on Letherface and Alien tho and gave them each three unique variations... Should have had Alien, Letherface, and Pinhead or Michael Myers as ONE "shape shifting" character since they're so obsessed with getting as many horror icons as possible into a damn MK game. then maybe the MK related DLC could get some actual depth. I mean how are they even gonna stretch letherface into three variations??? Gah, I'm ranting now tho so I'll stop. But ya, fuck KP2.

Tremor and Skarlet are going nowhere.
With Triborg being out for a while now this topic caught my eye again. We know that Triborg was a cyborg that accidentally was activated in the Special Forces base. We also know that he got his powers from reviewing videos of the Lin Kuei ninjas that the Grandmaster had stored on a computer databank. Yet here is the real question....Who or what being is inside that cybernetic suit or is Triborg a 100% robot? I know he has bones and body parts and stuff but you cannot use that and say that Triborg has a human body inside because when you rip of Jax's arms, which are supposed to be 100% cybernetic, there is human tissue in there!?!
He spawned from the Grandmaster's databanks is all we really know about this new mysterious ninja. He hates humans and wants to eradicate them from existence so perhaps he is a cyborg with no human soul or body? I just want to know if there is a human in there who is it?
