Am I correct in this being the birth of Scorpion?
He was originally Hanzo Hasashi....he dies at Sub-Zero's hands.....given a chance to avenge his death....his soul enters the body of a Lin Kuei member by the name of Takeda....and thus becomes Scorpion.

Yes, but I think this belongs in the Overall MK Discussion Fourm, am I correct?

True except for the Takeda part. Takeda was a former Lin Kuei who abandoned the clan and founded the Scorpion's clan, the Shirai Ryu. He died long before Hanzo even joined the clan.

All the info about Scorpion's past and the Shirai Ryu comes from the MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero game.

Takeda was once a member of the Lin Kuei, but he fled thousands of years ago, and returned to his homeland - Japan - to form his own clan, based on the teachings of assassination, combat, thievery etc he gained in the Lin Kuei (wich skills he later put together in his own fighting style, know has Ninjutsu).
Takeda formed his own sect, the Shiray Ryu, wich were the first Japanese Ninja clan. But this happened thousands of years ago, and Takeda lived on to the events of MK Mythologies, by unknown means.
Eventually, at the time of MK Mythologies (two years before the first MK game), Takeda was killed by Quan Chi, and his bones served as paiment for the Lin Kuei's Grandmaster (both clans were rivals), for the mission of stealing the map of elements, accomplished by the first Sub Zero.
Apart from being Scorpion's master, Takeda and Scorpion have nothing to do with each other. That story of Scorpion pocessing Takeda's body is a non-canonicall sub-plot indicated by Conquest.

Actually, this is a common misconception.
I know it's confusing, it used to throw me off too. Quan Chi is giving the Lin Kuei a bunch of bones to prove he killed the Shirai Ryu, it's only natural for you to assume that he killed the person those bones came from...but actually, no.
See, in the part of the MKM backstory that talks about Takeda and the invention of Ninjutsu, it ALSO says that Takeda died from poisoned tea long ago. So he wasn't magically immortal or long-lived at all, he had an ordinary human lifespan and died hundreds of years ago, and Quan Chi had nothing to do with it.
So what Quan Chi must have actually done is, after he slaughtered Scorpion's clan, he dug up Takeda's grave, and THAT is where he got the bones. Giving the Lin Kuei the bones as a trophy was a symbolic gesture sort of thing.
Either that, or those were the bones of the Shirai Ryu's CURRENT master, not Takeda. I can't remember for sure if he even said they were Takeda's bones.

I always got the impression that Quan got the bones of the "current grand master of the Shirai Ryu at that moment in time" The rest about Takeda is all true and as X and a few others already covered, this was all said and explained in MKM Sub-Zero.
MK:C took a little new twist and used the same "guy" as both Takeda and Scorpion and possessed Takeda into Scorpion when he was Knocked out after Kung Lao decked him lol.
