Okay, three questions because I didn't want to make separate threads for them. Oh, and I'd like to take into consideration the original timeline's logic over the new timeline since that's what I'm mostly interested in understanding.

1. Do you think Scorpion's skills and powers were the same (or at least, kept them limited to his former-human self) after he was killed and became a spectre, at least, when he faced opponents in the mortal realms? I ask, because, I'd like to think he didn't use special powers to kill Bi-Han but actually managed to use his own skills as a ninja and prove the superiority of his clan and that his fury was such a powerful force that motivated him to overcome even the legendary Sub-Zero's freeze powers. Yes, I know he can remove his face-mask and breathe fire from a skull, but he's only known to do that as a fatality.

2. Do you think the Shirai Ryu were anything like the Lin Kuei in how they operated their clan, their views of technology use was, the freedom of their clan members, or how they may have recruited/ kidnapped-and-raised "gifted" people like Kuai Liang or Smoke, maybe even having such kinds of assassins in their cult? How else do you imagine they were different from their rivals? For some reason, I get the impression they were less technology oriented.

3. Do you think the Shirai Ryu were less "evil", or more "honourable" in a sense than the Lin Kuei? I don't think there's any evidence to support this, but many depictions portray Scorpion as this "honour-obsessed" character doing things fairly, such as facing Bi-Han in open combat in MK1 instead of just murdering him at the most convenient opportunity. Also, the depictions of Lin Kuei have always seemed to be, and mostly from Bi-Han or Sektor's portrayal, that they're greedy, have corrupted values that they may drop at whim and could care less about the greater good. However, I doubt the Shirai Ryu were really much different, if any, considering they're /still/ just assassins/ thieves for hire; they sent Scorpion to retrieve the Sacred Map of Elements from the Shaolin temple despite that it was kept secret for the good of Earthrealm just for a chance to take out their rivals and maybe even make a profit from it like the Lin Kuei.

I believe that Quan mentions in MK4 that the whole reason he gave Scorpion "the powers of a spectre" was he needed someone who could kill Sub-Zeros.

Like his hellfire and being a ghost is a rock-paper-scissors counter to cryomancy and without it, he couldn't have won, since, y'know, the whole reason he died in Mythologies in the first place is because he was a regular human dude fighting against a guy with goddamn superpowers.

(It should be noted that unlike in MK9 where Sub wins their fight in MK2, in the old timeline, Kuai Liang has NEVER ONCE beat Scorpion in a fight. Scorp was supposed to win in MK2 but let Sub live but not tell him why, leaving him confused as to his motives until their teamup in MK3...and then they fight again in MK4 and Scorp wins again, but doesn't kill Sub because Quan Chi interrupts them to admit "Yeah, I killed your clan, not him.")

I doubt the Shirai Ryu were into tech since every time they've been depicted, they seem to be living in some extremely retro-lifestyle Japanese farming village pretending like it's still the feudal era.

As far as the "honor" thing...I don't think that's the clan, I think that's just Hanzo trying to justify his lifestyle because he feels super guilty about being a dude who kills people for money, his whole thing has always been "I only do it to provide a comfortable life for my family".

Yeah. That made absolutely no sense in MK9. The Lin Kuei riding horses, using archers? It makes you think this was a conflict that happened hundreds of years ago. In reality, they could use a jet similar to the MKII comic and wipe out the Shirai Ryu with a few bombings... yet Sub-Zero Mythologies makes it sound like they were struggling to eliminate each other even in modern days.

To be fair, nothing that happened in Quan's little animation was real. But Scorpion apparently believes the Lin Kuei would ride horses, so, still silly I suppose.
And the Lin Kuei's adoption of tech was supposed to be a fairly new thing, they probably didn't own jets yet during Mythologies.
And farming villages do still exist in Japan. I'm sure they have cars and phones there, mind you...probably the internet too, though not in the early 90's...

Here's what i think:
Hanzo as a human had control over the spear earning him the name Scorpion, and stealthy quick martial arts movements, which post-mortem grew into the teleport ability. All of the Hellfire moves seem to be an extension of his rage-fuelled rebirth in the Netherrealm.
