Things start to get a bit diluted in the top ten, and I'm also sitting outside my workplace waiting for my shift to start, so I'll just post my top four and low three.

1. Shang Tsung: I've already given my reasons for this earlier in the thread.
2. Kung Lao: With a trusty anti-air, a variety of high/low combos that can cancel into his spin and continue to a high 30% combo, this guy is deadly as fuck.

3. Ermac: This fucker pisses me off. Has a 45%+ combo with no meter and can control so many zones with his force push. YES, I know he nearly has no mix up potential at all, but that's the thing. He NEARLY has no mix up potential. He does have one low string combo, and an overhead that can cancel into a lift. Put those together and that's all the mix ups you'll need. NRS, do me a favor and put a bullet in this fuckers skull.

4. Cyber Sub-Zero: most fighters are overly aggressive. Cyber subs parry cripples this. Nuff said.

Low

1. Jade: I don't give a damn what anyone says. She is an abomination with no low intro combos that can cancel into anything, ALL her moves have slow start up times, meaning any mediocre player can read her and block when needed. Throw her in a mix up with an aggressive player and she is a good as dead.

Gotta go. I guess it'll just be top four and bottom one for me.

Your bit on Ermac was hilarious, and true--he's a beast. Though I have to disagree on Jade--and I know everyone has probably heard this all before, but here we go anyway:

She is an abomination with no low intro combos that can cancel into anything

3,4 xx ES Staff Overhead, Dash, B+2, Dash, 1,2~1 xx Staff Grab

This hits low on the second hit and does 32% damage

ALL her moves have slow start up times, meaning any mediocre player can read her and block when needed.

Jades moves have great range, so she is good at keeping aggressive players out. B+2 is a pretty good anti-air tool, and can be easily followed up by:

Dash, B+3,2 xx Staff Grab (20%)
or a little more difficult
Dash, 1,2, Dash,1,2, Dash, 1,2 xx Staff Grab (23%)

Not bad for an anti-air.

Shadow Flash, ES Shadow Kick (has armor), and ES Staff Overhead (has armor), makes her a nightmare for zoners. Also, the Shadow Kick is extremely fast, hits from over a half screen away, and is safe.

D+4 is decently fast and can give her breathing room is someone gets in to pressure.

ES Boomerang shenanigans--my favorite involves the following combo:

B+1 xx Staff Overhead, Dash, B+2, Dash, 1,2, Dash, 1,2 xx ES Boomerang

The ES Boomerang will miss the first pass, and if the opponent tries to attack, they will eat the return boomerang giving you a free combo back into B+1, if they block, you can double dash throw and they cannot jump out. The only way out is to tech roll and block, which puts them a few dashes away--this is Jade's butter zone as her moves have great range and can frustrate an aggressive opponent trying to get in close into making mistakes.

There are many setups for ES boomerangs that will grant you free combos--some of them can be read, of course, but in the heat of a match, it's not so easily done with the amount of mixups she can do. Also, you can pretty much cancel any block string into Shadow Kick to make it safe--even B+1.

Jade may not be top tier, but she is at least middle ground, and can hang with most characters outside of "S" tier. Her worst matchups are 6-4 in the opponents favor, and she has plenty of matchups going 6-4 in her favor. She probably has one of the biggest mismatches in the game when playing against Noob--I say it's 8-2 Jade.

Other characters have bigger problems than Jade, which is why she is not in my bottom 5--this is just my opinion on her though.

You make a lot of interesting points on jade, but I'm just he type of guy who needs to see it to believe it. Are you on xbox?

If so I wanna run a zoner (noob), an aggressor (Kung Lao), and an anti-aggressor (cyber sub zero) against you just to see how well they fair.

Unfortunately, I'm on PS3 :( Though I understand wanting to see it--with me playing, I would probably have the toughest time with Cyber Sub, but I don't think it would be Jade's fault :) I don't get to play enough Cyber Subs, so usually I feel a little uncomfortable in the matchup. In the Kung Lao matchup, he certainly would have the advantage, but I think if both players were equal, Jade split matches or come really close to it.

I saw your post on Shang, and I think a lot of people are sleeping on him--he's really good. Alex Valle and Detroit Ballin are playing some awesome Shangs--I'm sure there are others.

I really need to settle on a bottom 5 and post them--it's just so hard to do. This game has a lot of good characters, but I guess someone has to be at the bottom.

On the Jade topic, I will lean towards her being mid to high-mid tier. Even old Krazybone has been looking quite decent with her recently.

K guys, I would like to get this conversation going again. Top ten seems to be taking shape, but it is the middle tiers that will be the big problem. I will list a group of fighters that were hardly mentioned in either top or bottom so far and hopefully I can get your opinions on what order they should be going. Feel free to squeeze in someone I left out.

The order I list them in is random.

Scorpion
Lui Kang
Sonya
Smoke
Quan Chi
Mileena
Sektor
Kano
Nightwolf
Cyber Sub

^ Well, Nightwolf is top tier I think, Cyber SZ and Kano are upper mid or top tier and the rest are just mid tier.

..............................................................................................................................................

After doing some reading at TYM I think I was too harsh on Jade by placing her in bottom 5.

But it's so hard to choose, I mean pretty much everyone will say Baraka and Sheeva are in bottom 5. I think Sindel is being mentioned in that context very often as well. But after these 3 it gets really hard. I even saw a video about some tricks regarding Stryker and how to make his zoning more efficient that really makes me uncertain if he deserves to be in the bottom 5.

I saw that Stryker vid you are talking about. All sorts of crazy cancells with his gun. I also had to have a rethink about him after that video.

I have a feeling Nightwolf is top, but not a lot of tourney results to back him up yet that I know off so jury out on him.

I can see Smoke and Scorpion drop to bottom tier actually. A lot of guys (like Stryker/ Jax) with untapped potential and ability there. Would be funny in a way seeing as how everyone always complain how "overpowered" they are.

(also pls try list those guys/gals from 1-10, I want to eventually tally the "votes" to get an average)

Kinda forgot about Noob and Jade. Noob is a tough one for me, I hate his play style so much that it is hard watching someone play as him without thinking they suck (I know this is wrong). He would fit in somewhere with these guys. Jade is also a difficult one, lots of people think she sucks, other think she is great. Ok I will do a list and include the two of them.

1- Nightwolf
2- Sektor
3- Kano
4- Lui Kang
5-Jade
6-Cyber Sub
7-Noob Saibot
8-Quan Chi
9-Smoke
10-Sonya
11-Scorpion
12-Mileena

This is a hard list to make.confused

I think the only reason why people put SubZero in top tier is because Tom Brady said he is top tier. Tom Brady got beat by ChirsG Reptile one round flawlessly ie Reptile got a flawless victory. That alone to me is proof that Reptile and SubZero are not in the same tier. Two pro's play each other and one loses a round convincingly. Tom Brady plays SubZero as good as I have seen so he knows what he is doing. SubZero is near the top of middle tier. He is definately not top tier.

Let me preface by saying that Raiden is unquestionably #1 when playing online. He's completely safe.

Offline tiers, in my opinion, no particular order in each level:

S
Shang (best zoning game. period)
Kung Lao (still an absolute monster post-nerf)
Raiden (he may be a little slow but he still has great priority and is safe)
Ermac (still excellent post-nerf)

A
Reptile (would be S but his nerf was the worst)
Kitana (insane priority but also difficult to use)
Nightwolf (great damage, solid wakeups)
Scorpion (like microchip said, when used right he's a monster)
Liu Kang (lightning quick, has an overhead, good damage)
Kabal (play MK-Legendaire if you're skeptical)
Kano (great at zoning, unblockable and powerful x-ray)

B
Mileena (though she matches up pretty well with just about anyone)
Noob (spam spam spam spam spam. lol)
Sub-Zero (crazy combos if you can get them going, but that's the challenge with him)
Sektor (great priority but can also be very unsafe)
Kenshi (good damage, good for spammers, but he does have some holes)
Cyrax (relies a little too much on putting your opponent where they need to be)
Cyber Sub-Zero (same issues as human Sub)
Quan Chi (I get the benefit of his mind games but I'm not seeing how he has enough damage and safety)
Johnny Cage (good priority and x-ray, but limited options and too reliant on meter)

C
Stryker (press block, defeat Stryker)
Skarlet (she was awesome until everyone realized that Kenshi is better, as far as the DLC goes)
Smoke (teleports and evasiveness can only get you so far)
Sonya (very fast, but also not that strong and doesn't have enough in the mixup game)
Rain (only because of his difficult timing on a lot of his combos... he can do insane damage if you can set him up)

D
Baraka (yes he got buffed, but not enough)
Sindel (she's more of an annoyance than anything else, low x-ray is nice)

F
Jade (microchip hit it on the head... she's awful)
Jax (very punishable on block and easily zoned)
Sheeva (she's not totally useless, but a lot of what she does is too easily countered)

Whoops, my fault. I was sitting here thinking about where to put him for so long that I just forgot. He's B tier, if you ask me.

Somebody wanna tell me why Quan is always placed towards the bottom? I really don't know this character too well, but it seems like he has a GREAT mix up game and his skull projectile recovers as fast as kano's AND he's got some pretty damaging combo's. So what makes u guys put him low(ish) tier?? I lose to Quan players online all the time and would love to hear some dirt on this character. Like other than baiting the wakeup teleport kick what weakness does he really have, generally speaking??

The only weakness I know of is his combos aren't very damaging. Other than that, he is definitely A ranked due to his sheer mixup potential.
