Reptile Spam - Impossible to counter?
Reptile Spam - Impossible to counter?
Alright, I hate to have my first post on MKO be a "spam" thread, but this is more than just that.
First - Am I the only one who notices how hard it is to beat a spamming (run dash with a tad bit of Link Kuei Slide thrown in) Reptile? The dash is one of the fastest moves in MK, and when you block it, Reptile has near instant recovery, if not instant already. Also, when reptile goes past the first time, I feel like you should be able to block the coming elbow ala UMK3 (huge UMK3 fan, by the way :)).
Second - I've encountered many a spammer in my time on this game, which is a given, it's been around since MK1 really, but with this kind of spam, I can only counter with, say, Sub-Zero's ice clone + Lin Kuei Slide.
How do you counter a Reptile player that spams the Dash? I can barely get a hit in on a player who blocks, throws in 3 dashes, then repeats.

The dash has a decent recovery on block. The animation just isn't obvious.
He does have some recovery. I went into practice mode and saw for myself. Just, in game, most characters can't punish him well enough IMO. I usually play Smoke, whom I think is a very fast character, but I swear I can't punish Reptile's dash whatsoever.
I will, however, try the throw thing. That throws people off ;). No pun intended.

I main Kung Lao, so I use a lot of Ground Hats. I've stopped caring about spamming against spammers, if a Reptile wants to dash and slide constantly, I'll Ground Hat constantly. He'll either learn not to be cheap or die. Another decent tactic is familiarizing yourself with good Wake Up attacks that you can combo into or at least knock them back with. Kung Lao has the dreaded Hat Spin, so if people want to pressure me while I'm on the ground I make them deal with that, but that's probably the easiest move to punish with on a Wake Up, so it may be harder for you with different characters.

I spam low kicks and elbow dashes with reptile. Its great against average players but the good players who know long combos are tough to beat with that.

Spamtiles like to switch up between slides and dashes, so a low projectile will hit them out of either one.
Or jump kick them out of it.

I don't have problems with the dash and slide spam.
It's the damn zoning and projectile spam that gets me.

I thave mentioned this a few times before as well. This move is the definition of "broken". It has little to almost no recovery and is very hard to punish. You can't react on it with block or jump, its simply too fast. You need to keep away from Reptile because of this move and his fast slide. Staying away also gives many characters problems as from distance most Reptile players spam his force ball and his acid spit which also comes out really fast.
Fortunately, Sub-Zero's ice clone is one of the few moves in the game that will keep Reptile at a distance (and fortunately I main SZ). Reptile players never use the dash or slide move on me (outside of a combo) as I always use the ice clone to decide the opponents position. From distance, the best move to use against Reptile is the enhanced freeze move.

Another good spamming move with reptile is low kick, especially if you have an opponent pinned in a corner. It's really tough to get out of!

You're just kicking low...
So why wouldnt some one just block low then Jump over you and attack?

All 'spams' in MK2011 are counterable.
How? By fighting fire with fire; by 'out spamming' the spammer!
This is the hidden beauty of MK2011 -- it allows all-comers the same opportunity to spam to their heart's content and thus compete on a level playing field with anyone else, irrespective of skill.
MK2011 is the ultimate 'accessible' spam fest fighter! =D

If you think doing almost nothing but nut punches will work I doubt you're actual skills in this game.
And some people spam rainbow kick an air kicks with Sonya.

Spam some block. Ever thought of that? Also LOL at the person calling it broken. Are we just going to complain and cripple every character with decent moves? Look at poor Smoke. Guy is lowish mid tier at best and he gets nerfed because of people sucking at the game and then complaining about it.
Also, We seriously need a thread stickied for every character, that way this sort of thing can get moved in there instead of cluttering the general threads up. I know we are doing it by character but lets just open one for everyone now and move all this sort of stuff to the appropriate thread.

I don't know, but it seems really hard for some people to jump out of the corner low kick spam. Some people just block which is fine because is still takes away health. Some x ray out too. Or, by the time they figure how to get out, it will have taken a nice portion of health away.
i LOVE using reptile on unsuspecting noobs online and DESTROYING them with a combination of elbow dashes and slides. btw, calling it "spam" just shows you're bitter - if they're spamming it so much, block it and punish.
the elbow dash has pretty quick recovery, but the slide is EASILY punished if blocked.

Yeah, I'm trying to decide if the corner low kick is actually spam, or even close to an infinite. Can someone try it for me? Get your opponent in a corner and do a down+circle kick and keep spamming the circle button.
I am an avid Reptile user also... It is amazing how people don't block the dash. If you do block it it is counterable. My suggestion would be to block more... When someone starts to block none stop on me though I look for the throw, Look for the jump punch combo starter if they are crouch blocking or I get into the zoning game... fast forceball, slow force ball, acid spit, EX Slide.

...of course you can't.
everybody has that move. it's called a sweep.
not even close to being an infinite, as it's not even a combo.
blocking low on get-up would stop that pretty quickly, or, even better, a wake-up attack. ermac's force lift and kung lao's spin are especially satisfying on wake-up against people who try to sweep you whilst you're getting up as you can immediately launch into devastating combos with them.

I also use reptile alot.
Looks at it this way, if the dash doesn't get them the recovery should let you slide and trip then dice they probably blocked high.
Sometimes people do things in a way thats hard to defend unless you expect it. Like sub zero standing idle and attack thin air, until you try to hit him, that's when he ice clones and you fall right in. Granted that should only get you once some people know how to milk things to get a shit ton of damage.
Well time force balls, slides, acid spits elbows and his overhead attack can really ruin some ones day. He has ALOT of good moves that are hard for newer players to defend against. And in this game you can practice against the machine because machines aren't like people online, alot of those people want to win and nothing else and get really cheap and desperate so they use a character with good specials, but almost only use those specials (Noob, Kitana, Stryker, Kano, and most popular of all, reptile).
Sorry if none of that makes sense to you.
