Play a real fighter game such as SF, Tekken, VF, KoF, ect.. AT A COMPETITIVE LEVEL and you will easily answer your own question.

It's because Mortal Kombat is goes all the way on being a real fighter game and also due to over-the-top fatalities (Oh how funny some of them are!)
