They're mentioned, but I think it's a little too soon to call it an all-caps official announcement. The message is just that Kratos' involvement as a guest character will be kept to an appropriate minimum.

When were they mentioned in the video? I didn't even hear the word friendship...

Okay, so, he says that Kratos wouldn't be performing friendships because there's no humorous side to Kratos. That I understand. But how is "Test Your Might" humorous? I mean, yeah, the way they did it in MKDA, they added a bit of comedy to it, like if you don't get it, the character will freak out and hold their arm in pain, and it's kinda funny. But they could just handle something like that a little more gracefully with Kratos. The sheer concept of Test Your Might is pretty cool, and not really "komedy".

Best way to find answers is usually to read the news article.
As noted, there's a PlayStation blog with more information and quotes: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/03/24/kratos-vs-mortal-kombat-ed-boon-and-stig-talk-shop/. Cheers.

Cool video, can't help but think that all this added attention to detail SMS wrung out of NRS for Kratos is probably a big chunk of why there's so much attention to everything else in the game. Forget all the butthurt complaints, seriously this is about as close to a complete MK we've ever had, and attention to detail is a huge part of all that.

Kratos looks beastly, nice to see a couple ref's to GoW2, I hope one of his fatalities is him going to town on the opponent with that big ass hammer he had in that game.

I'm sooooo intrigued by Friendships, I don't know why but I'm completely for it. His stage looks great, I hope the stage fatal is the opponent getting stuffed into Pandora's box.

Screw Hara Kiri's. Sick of people asking for them. There's so many reasons why they suck.

First of all, the winner should get the satisfaction of finishing the loser.
Second, when it comes to who can input the commands in faster, it's always the loser because he can start the moment he dies, no set up....so all we'll see is stupid "I stabbed myself" endings instead of any actual Fatalities.

Fatalities, Friendships (confirmed as far as I'm concerned), and maybe one other funny thing, that's all we need. The colorforms animalities were stupid too.

but Babalities? .....I'd like to see that. Turn a whiny loser opponent into what he is. A crying baby. fitting.

Friendships, Babalaties, Animalities... They are a thing of the past. And they weren't really that cool to begin with. Rather ridiculous concepts in my opinion and I would not want either of them to return ever again.

This game might be based on nostalgia, but it is also darker and more serious than ever, so those childish finishers shouldn't return to this game. It would be utter pointless to put them in. Then I'd rather have more fatalities.

Not even Brutalities should return, in my opinion. They were nothing but excessive combos which ended in an exploding uppercut... I've always found it rather lame. Had they done it more like Killer Instinct's Ultra Combos, then I'd might go with it, but if not, then let it stay in the past where it belongs.

Though Hara-Kiri's were fun, I agree with what's already been said about it should be the winner who gets the triumphant finisher.

After a few months of doing the same fatalities, I think it's a nice change of pace to do something different like a humorous friendship move. If you don't like it, then just pretend they don't exist, and never do them. Most people will welcome the change of pace every so often when the blood and guts loses it's shock value.

After a while, friendships stop being funny as well. They just become redundant... or rather, they already are.

That can be said about anything... Still, it's the polar opposite of blood and guts.. and if you've seen some of the fatalities already, then you know that a lot of them are also pretty humorous.
Tell you what. They'll keep the Friendships in, but we won't tell you about them. It'll be everyone else's little secret.

Kratos will appear in Mortal Kombat when the game hits US shelves April 19 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with Europe just a couple of days behind.

So he actually does show up on the 360...

No, he's a PS3 exclusive character. That's been said from day one and hasn't been changed. Why do you think he'll be in the Xbox version?

I think it's got to do with the fact that Kratos should be able to crush anything with little effort. Seeing him old his hand in pain, because he couldn't crush some block of stone, doesn't seem very Kratos like.

The Kratos gameplay looks amazing.. he will be teamed up with Quan Chi in Tag mode...

Y'know, that's the exact same first thought I had while watching the interview. I wish NRS was as anal about the details as Kratos' creators nitpicking the shade of gold on his chains.

They certainly have a knack for coming off... 'less than brilliant.' :-\

Really? The characters I care about in MK look quite awesome to me... Moreso than Kratos. But I guess it's a matter of opinion.

I'm just happy to see how excited sony santa monica is to have Kratos in MK! I'm glad he's not going to be more than just a name for this game too (though he still fulfills that role too)

Key words there.
Also kinda funny ones coming from a fan of a character whose skintone is never the same in each render the MK team puts out. That's the sort of thing we're talking about here, they've got no sense of consistency.
Sure she's brown in the game itself, but advertisements and promotional material should match what's in the game exactly. Why isn't Raiden's outfit the same from one render to the next? Where was Sub-Zero's scar in Deception? What was up with Shaolin Monks? Why can't we get a healthbar that says "Noob Saibot", even when the announcer says it?
You don't see most other developers making those mistakes. Most developers are fiercely protective of their creations with attention to detail. The Halo guys wouldn't even let a movie be made unless they had creative control, for instance. And the book tie-ins to their franchise are all strictly canon. Can you imagine if we had THAT as MK fans? Books? That are actually about the canon and don't have any retcons, errors, or holes? That would be fucking amazing! That sort of attention to their intellectual property is what I wish we saw from Boon and co.
And you can't blame the errors on Midway cheapness because they're still doing it.

Well, it's how they are in the game that's important. Because that's what I'll be playing. A render is just an image, and an image can be modified.

And now she looks like she does in the game. ^^
