Where is Shang Tsung?

With the variations feature it would be really confusing to have a morphing skill, as you would need to learn both the character and the variations to know what you're doing. If Shang comes back I'm not really sure we would be able to morph (and in at least one case he would morph into 2 separate characters).

See, the possibility of that excites me. It just adds to the depth and makes us Shang Tsung players look that much more awesome.
But in all sincerity...outside of Deadly Alliance, Armageddon, and MK vs DC, you always needed to have a good feel for the entire roster of the game to play as Shang effectively in random matches. This was especially true in MK9 (with its more complex gameplay compared to MK2 and 3).
Learning as much as you can about the other characters is just par for the course for Shang Tsung players.

Glad i could help
Ps2 era id put them in this order from best to worst...
Shaolin Monks
Deception
Deadly Alliance
Armageddon
I honestly think Deadly Alliance and Deception are pretty damn equal as both are better than one another in different areas. Armageddon almost as good, but fails short in too many areas. Shaolin Monks was the best made game of the four hands down.
All in all like i said id say DA and D are pretty equal but they both arent as good as MK1-UMK3. I didnt play mk4 so idk about the comparison there... MK9 proves they should of never left the 2d plane.
Well all I have to say is that if this is some sort of a "hint" or "possibility" of Shang Tsung being involved with this game, I'll certainly welcome it.
But here's the thing, I don't really care for his old self as much as a huge fan that I am of his. And since clearly his "powers" were transferred, wouldn't that mean he'd just be an old geaser for this game if he is to return?

Shang Tsung was only in 4 initial fighting MK games (MK1,2,3 and DA). UMK3, MKT and MKA are excluded for obvious reasons. As for MK9, that was just a rehash of MKT with a twist or two.
So, pretty much, I believe Shang will be in. I hope his MK9 ending is canon. Instead of stealing souls, he can steal spirits.

Absolutely not. This blasphemy. Of the PS2 era -

MKDA

MKSM because I don't really count Shaolin Monks.
MK vs DC was the blasphemy.
I'm basing that list on my hype level and experience. I thought they took what made MKDA great and expanded it in MKD. Konquest, fatalities, gameplay, and even the Krypt. We lost out on some tombs, but the key requirements made it a greater challenge. And MKSM had just about everything I wanted from an MK adventure game. Yeah of course there were things about it that could make your skin crawl, but if we really wanted to pick-apart all the games on that list, there's something (or many things) awful in every one of them.
I could probably give DA the gold, but I still stand by Deception being the best overall. Of course that's subjective, so to each his own my friend.

I agree for the most part. I played with Shang once in MK9 then left him alone until I felt I'd covered enough bases with the other characters. Then I tried him again and it was all gravy. The inclusion of variations though does raise some serious questions as to how they'll handle that. He could just have the soul steal move again that limits you to the variation your opponent is using.
Something tells me he will be a NPC anyways though. That or DLC if we're lucky.

Y'know, I really think my "Motaro's ghost" theory has legs.
See...'cause NRS refuses to model his.
And ghosts sometimes don't have any.

Gotta lot to reply to Later.. But I will say like many others before me, it did look like Kahn transferred Shang's soul. So maybe Kahn held onto his soul for whatever reason or took it for himself.
Also, Motaro mustn't had been the bad guy we all thought he was. Misunderstood in a world of tyranny andShokan. ....Ghost with no legs? What about that half screen body of his? ;)
Back to Tsung, I forgot whether it was mentioned he had power on his own or it was just from Kahn... but that would explain him using magic should he return.
Also... why is Shaolin Monks counted? It wasn't developed by the Chicago team, nor is it a fighting game.

Bringing back that MKI no sweeps on the boss gameplay. Motaro's ghost as the boss confirmed tbh.Y'know, I really think my "Motaro's ghost" theory has legs.

If Shang is out there some where without a body, wouldn't his soul or spirit just shoot in to a corpse? Say maybe...Meats?
As for Motaro, he had his four legged self in MK9 storymode, just to kill him off? Bring him back two legged and better than his MKA design.

Some people need to stop crapping on MKvsDCU, not only it had better gameplay than the clunky MKDA-MKA games, but also had that game never happened, MK wouldn't be where it is at today.
I guess some people are only here for the gore.

I've played it a few times and thought it was decent. It's definitely better than MKA although that may not be saying too much.

I would love to see Shang Tsung come back with a new character arc. It would be interesting after all these years to see him journey to being on the side of Earth or at least against the Netherrealm. If Liu is indeed the boss or a sub-boss it could be really interesting to see Shang going up against him as essentially a good guy. I want something fresh like that for returning older characters.

Oh no, not at all. They hit the nail right on the head with that one.
Him and Lambert were the best choices for their roles. Then Bridgette.

Yeah it is. First off it basically alienates the hardcore mk fans.... Second, the game played worst than DA-A imo. I played that game for about 2 weeks, around 300-400 matches, and then threw it away.... It still bugs me MKvsDC is considered to be "MK8"

Right? At least Raiden screwing everything up in this new timeline kind of means that MKvsDC never took place. So I can erase it from history.
Anyways, I don't want Shang back. I assumed he died with Sindel like most people. If he comes back it should only be as a cameo in the story mode, back in his old form without any power. And hopefully he's killed off this time for good.

The only good thing about MKvsDC was the MK costumes, especially Shang Tsung's which brought me back to the MK3 days. The rest of MKvsDC sucked donkey balls.
