Acclaim Goes Bankrupt; Auctions Off Rights to Mortal Kombat

Looks like Acclaim, who published the first two Mortal Kombat games originally on home systems such as Super NES, Sega Genesis, Game Gear, Game Boy, the PC, and even Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn, is filing for bankruptcy. As part of the bankrupcty, they're auctioning off the rights to tons of the games they still have the rights for, including Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat II, and MK1+2 Duo. David R. Maltz & Co. Inc., who specialize in handling auctions of these sorts for corporations, have not yet announced the day/location of the auctions but are already accepting offers.

So what does this mean exactly? If I buy the rights for Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 does that mean someone will have to pay me to use the games in a compilation or what? What about the characters in the games?

Because I may be willing to enter the auction myself.

I highly doubt that man, Acclaim compared to Midway is not even a match worthy of a good comparison.

Every time Midway has been in trouble, they make games to bail them out.Acclaim on the other hand, well........

Anyway, if I was rich, I would buy it but I don't have 6-10,000 to spend for thie bid.

Lets hope Midway buys the right back to the games. It 's one of the supposed reasons why we haven't seen Midway release a Kompilation because of this fucking probelm. Besides Midway is the only company I see that even deserves to have the rights to the game.

Wait wait wait. I don't understand! DOesn't Midway already hold the rights to the MK1 and MK2? If no then how is it they put it in the MAT collection?

Acclaim made the home console versions, and MAT is the Arcade version.

EDIT: Funny thing I just noticed when I was at Target, they sell this Midway home arcade machine with 12 old Midway games on it, but they are all crappy non-arcade versions that were published by Williams. Not all that pertinent but still a tiny bit topical.
