I'm not sure exactly how accurate this is but I think that Rayden in MK1 didn't have that much faith in the Earthrealm fighters or something like that so he participated in the tournament.

One thing about Rayden in MK1 that I'm mostly certain of is that he witnessed the fight between Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

And as for Quan Chi, I did forget to take Kitana's konquest info into consideration, but I don't quite remember if she just defeated Quan or did she kill him....

If she just defeated him, then perhaps Quan could have escaped and then encounter the Onis. And then by perhaps absorbing Drahmin's strength and energies, Quan became more powerful and then later on he learns of the Dragon King's return. I doubt that Quan Chi will side with the Dragon King unless he does so as a trick to either destroy him or to take away his power for himself. I bet he will try to use Shinnok's amulet to turn the Dragon King's army against the Dragon King.

this is in response to mister_satans reply to my post. Quan could return weakend due to the fact that drahmin fell in with him. Drahmin could have taken power from the IS and from Quan himself.

was that ending ever used?

nope

so it never happened

I know it was never used. The point is, it reflects Raiden's role in MK1. I think that if the MK team had Raiden's current mentality in mind during MK1 they would have given him a completely different ending.

its not really a plot hole

just a different way things could have gone

thats what most MK endings are
plus i dont think they planned a MK2 p.s i guess drahmin could have sucked all the power..but it seems highly unlikely that ending reminded me of that episode of X-men evolution where mystique and magneto both entered the machine that speeds up their evolution
