yes, the Portal Stage seems to be based on the Disney movie "Atlantis", or at least the creators got inspired from it.
There are parts in the movie that show the EXACTLY flying faces of stones that are in the Portal Stage. The flying faces look all the same!
Also, on the intro, when Shan and Quan Chi travel to kill Liu, the lights like lighting comming out of the center of the blue circle in the portal stage, that seems to be surrounded by all the stone flying faces, are the SAME thing that happens in Atlantis when the City is covered by water.
Some Light from the center of all the flying faces throw lighting lights just the same way in the MKDA game, then the city is protected with some blue glows and all.
just a thought, if Uve watch the movie Ull see what Im talking about. Everything is the same thing.

its true though ed boon gets his ideas from a lot of different movies...can u name em all?
I felt that MKDA was based on one of my favourite movies, The Mummy Returns. I mean think about it: The movie was about the return of the Scorpion King, and the rising of his army.
In MKDA, it was The Dragon King, and the rising of his army!
The Sarna Ruins temple looks a lot like some Egyptian backdrop.
And one of the characters, Drahmin, looks a lot like Imhotep - in the process of reconstructing himself!

i have to disagree on that.. Big Trouble in Little China was definitely one of the inspirations for mk..but the true orginal one was ENter the dragon wit bruce lee..the whole idea of mk was based on that movie..and some characters too..like goro..shange
Mortal Kombat wasent really inspierd from China stuff, but it sure had the great feeling of it!
I just loive the mnusic of Mk1 and 2, they sound chinnese and all. And BTW, the Budda statu in Mk1, was actually a little statu that the backdoor neighbors had, boon just took a pic of it, and put it in the game.
oh, BTW, i just watched Atlantis in some channel, and U have to watch it! The sceens of those faces, the lights and all are just like MKDA, every bit of it!

Dude, Rayden is styled exactly after the Lightning Storm from BTILC. Also, another Storm is named "Thunder." That's enough proof for me.

CONCLUSION: MK:DA and all MK is just a rip off from Hollywood movies.

Yeah, this was said in another post somewhere. Ed Boon and John Tobias both admitted in an interview that they got the idea of Rayden from Big Trouble in Little China. Also, Lopan looks a lot like Shang TSung from the first game. At the same time, the whole idea of going and fighting on an island is a lot like Enter the Dragon. I've never read that they admitted that but it seems pretty obvious.

True enough MK is a pretty rip off but with the two films BTINLC and ETD if you mixed both of them they make the game quite authentic.I agree with the_new_mr with the way Raiden is the thunder guy in BTILC and the island thing with ETD.I would just like to point out that I think that ED BOON stole the idea for Fujin the same way they done with Raiden I mean in BTILC theres another guy who had long hair like Fujin and had Wind Powers like Fujin but true enough Fujin had white hair but still the same idea and then in MK:DA Kung Lao has the exact Hair style like the wind guy in BTILC and the same with Raiden but white hair instead.definitely,MK is related to BTILC in a big way.
