I was at home of my cousin...somewhere in 1993.
We played MK...and...it...was...great!
I loved that Pit-Fatality...and Scorpions Spear...and his Fatality...and Sub-Zero's Ice Blast...
Then came MKII...whoooha...WOW! More Pit-Fatalities...
...so on and so on...
How was that by you all!?

My dad bought me a Genesis for my sixth birthday along with MK1, and he had gotten all of the fatalities and cheat codes from one of his friends at work, and we would stay up all night playing each other and doing fatalities on each other.
Those were the days.

So long ago I feel old :(. Like most people I stumbled across it at an arcade (about a year before the home versions came out). The arcade wasn't in my town though so I only got a glimpse of it. Can't say I was hooked at first because I got ripped off by the machine first try and lost to Scorpion (I was Sub) my first match. I played a couple more rounds and thought nothing more of it. About a week later our arcade got it but I wasn't aware of it. I walked to the arcade and there were ATLEAST 20 people around the game. It was insane at the time. So I figured I'd play again and some kid killed me with raiden and did Raiden's special moves and fatality. THEN I was hooked. I wanted to learn everything for every character so I bought the EGM where the fatalities were listed a month later I believe(I have no clue how that kid knew everything before any guides or anything came out). I just played everyday after that and have pretty much been playing MK everyday since then. When MK2 came out, shit. The arcade was packed everyday for months. So I would hang out at the mall for hours everyday after school just to play every chance I got until I became a god at it and I would sit there for hours killing people. I won't forget when I got to fight Noob Saibot and the day 250 battles were played for pong. Now I'm all giddy thinking back
.

My mother used to clean my grandfathers laundry at the local laundrimat (sp) and they had MK 1. I used to play it every now and then and then one day it was gone and MK II was in its place and me and my once friend played the hell out of it.

Way back when I was like 6 or 7 My Mom bought me a Sega for Christmas and I think I got like 3 games for it: Sonic The Hedgog 2, Shinobi 3, and Mortal Kombat. When I played Mortal Kombat I was hooked. I also remember begging my parents at random to let me go see the Movie one night and we drove all around town until we found a thearter that was playing it.
I used to play it on a nintendo. So, U know it was ugly, crappy, no good sounds, no good graphics, no FATALITIES!....But for some reason, I just loved the story and character moves and all.
On that nintendo there where like 1000 games, a LOT of fighting ones, but the crappy mk1 was the one I always liked....THEN, imagine my reaction when I first saw it on arcade, and then on PC.
Mk2 shocked me like hell. Mk3 even more! MkTrilogy became my fave.
Mk4 was awsome, but i wasent as impresed as I was with Trology. THEN, Mk Deadly Alliance gave me one reason to stay alive....Mk6.

One of my good friends just couldn't stop talking about the release of MK2 on Sega Genesis back in the day. We would always tease him about it. Then he invited me over to play some of it and I've been hooked ever since.
Now the tables have turned and I'm the one being clowned on.

I was at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video(can't remember) and was looking for a new game(mostly because the one I wanted was already checked out). I came across MK2 and played it. At first I was like, "uhhh
" I didn't like it because I didn't understand the plot, but got to like its gameplay, especially Scorpion(he rocked). Then MK3 came out. I rented it and was like, WTF is this, no Scorpion. I only rented it once and was really ticked off. When UMK3 came out I rented it and thought, "Hell yeah, this is MK". MK:T came out and bought it. But eventually my S.O.B. cousin jacked it. (always hated that spioled freak). As soon as MK4 came out, I bought it the first day. I was hooked on it and was undefeatable in my neighborhood. It was great for a while. MK:DA came out and I reserved one. When I bought it, I was like, "WOW
" I thats how I came to MK.

Back in 1993 the only fighting games my two brothers and I ever played were Street Fighter and Street fighter 2.Then a family friend brought over and gave us Mortal Kombat I was hooked it was an awesome game.We all hung out after school playing constently.Well then we went to video world and boom we see Mortal Kombat2 we rented it and like with the first we played up until it had to go back. Then unfortionitally we never owned 2.When 3 came out we bought it on Sega, then when Ultimate came out we bought it on SNES.Well thats how the obsession began. Now im 15 and recently I kept playing my Mortal Kombat 4,and since the SNES is broken and MK,MK3,and UMK3 are missing,I rebought MK-UMK on sega caused I really missed those days.I started when I was 5 now 10 years from then Im still a die hard fan.

I went to a local bookstore with my dad when I was in the 4th grade, back in 1993. He asked me if I wanted a magazine. I picked up a copy of EGM with Goro, Sub-Zero, and Kano on the cover. Until then, I had not heard of Mortal Kombat. As I read through the magazine, I saw this game that had all this blood and guts in it. I was interested in trying it. Soon, my friend and I were taken to Burger King by his mother. She let us have some quarters to play the Mortal Kombat game that they had in the back of the restaraunt. I chose Cage, and he chose Sub-Zero. I won. From then on, I loved Mortal Kombat.

Well, I worked at a local theatre back in the wee beginning of the MK days. I remember this new game just being installed in the theatres' arcade room called MKI. Me and a couple of coworker friends started checking it out. We played and played for hours every day. We would come in on our days off just to play...Sometimes after all the movies let out and the place was closed we would have our own tournments of 4 or 5 guys just spanking each other. I cain't even began to tell you how much money that game made off the ushers at that place. Those were the days man!! Then MKII came out, well thats a horse of a different color and we all know that the fever had spread to the world by then!!!
Well back in the day in 1992. My mom and I would go to the mall every weekend. She'd give me 10 bucks for the arcade while she went shopping. I walked in the arcade one weekend and was getting change, when I saw that everyone in the arcade was standing around Mortal Kombat. I went over to see what everyone was watching and the frist thing I saw was Liu Kang uppercutting Sub-Zero into the pit. I was only 11 years old and I'd fallen in love. LOL
The frist Mortal Kombat character I ever used was Kano.

My next door neighbor use to babysit me and my brother so he brought up mortal kombat for genesis and he knew every move. I was hooked and every time a new mk game came out he would let me play it with him. That was along time ago and he moved out with his family so i don't know if he still plays mk.

In the beginning, to me, Mortal Kombat was like some freak accident that you didn't want to look at, but every so often you just had to take a glimpse to remind yourself why you were so horrified. I had heard about the characters from a few kids that knew the game well, and I tried to argue in favor of the Street Fighter series. Yes, if you can believe it, I used to hate Mortal Kombat as a little kid. My mom said it was sickening and I agreed with her. Then, as time rolled on, my brother started getting into it, and wanted the games. I eventually followed, like the conformist I was back then. The first time I played MKII in the arcades, I picked Johnny cage, and got my ass handed to me by Scorpion, and he did his spear slicer fatality on me. I couldn't believe what I had just seen! My knees were shaking, and I couldn't keep my thoughts straight! On that same day, I saw a guy doing amazing with Sub-Zero (which I find surprising, since projectile attacks never work on the computer). The very first time I saw his ice shatter fatality, it triggered an everlasting bond between me and Sub-Zero. I had to find out more! I had to make it mine! But most importantly...we had to convince the ultimate buzz killers....our parents!!!! URRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
All we wanted was a little twist to our fun, but no! That was too much to ask. I had already become desensitized to ultra-violence at the time, which was my best, yet most useless, argument at the time. I craved it for years. That is...until one Christmas. I don't know how the hell my brother did it, but he convinced the shit out of my parents in his list. As we opened up one of our gifts, we thought we were dreaming....MK3?!!! At least one of us has been hooked since.

I went over to my bros house when MK1 had just come to the home versions. He had been playing for a while with Liu Kang and Sub. I chose Scorpion because I like yellow. The first couple of matches he kicked my ass. But after I figured out how his spear and teleport could be abused, I wasted him over and over. He stopped playing me because he had no chance at all of winning. I had never really played fighting games before, I seemed to be just naturally good at it.
My bros comes over sometimes and is rather disgusted to still see me playing some version of MK. He says "Don't you ever get tired of that?" I said "You kinda get into it after a while."
Fighting games are weird that way. Some people look at them and see a just another videogame. But for some reason, others focus on them like Forrest Gump on a ping pong ball.

My brother and I just bought a Super Nintendo, and we wanted to get some games for it. We went to a FuncoLand at the mall, and we looked around for a while. We got a few games, then we had to leave. My dad said we could get one more game, so I looked at the shelf, saw MKII, and decided to get it. I was absolutely blown away. I remember the first time I saw a Fatality performed. I got my ass kicked by Baraka, and he knocked my ass into the Dead Pool. I literally had to pick up my jaw off of the floor after I witnessed that.

I was at a friends house and they were playing mk1. I may have played once, i dont remember, but wanting to play was me just wanting to fit in. Anyways, i thought nothing more of it until i heard mk2 came out. I went to toys r us and bought it. I loved that game and played it a lot. I wish i never got rid of my sega...
Then i went and bought trilogy. i wasnt a huge fan, b/c i was still young when i had mk2. But i did really like trilogy. Anyways, one day i discovered that trilogy was just kinda gone. Ive never seen it since.
And ive never played since then until i bought mk:da.
