Now Mortal Kombat has been around for nearly twenty years.I was 10 in 1992 when the 1st MK came out. Now I am getting close to the big 30 Its amazing how fast time flew by. But when I saw MK2 I was in awe of how awesome it was. Me and my friends were hooked on it. I remember I got MK 1 on the Super NES for a birthday gift in 94. My parents obviously didn't hear about the extreme violence or else they would not have bought it for me LOL. And my mom was really strict with everything. I really wanted MK2. I could use Liu Kang at the arcade and beat people older than me his move set was so easy to remember. It hasn't changed at all since 1993!smilesmilesmile

I was 15 years old when MK first hit arcades. I remember watching people playing as Scorpion and Sub-Zero and even Sonya. I must've played that game hundreds of time. Then MKII came out and I was hooked.

I was 9 years old when MK was released (Crazy!). I played it at a local movie theater. The gameplay was different but similar enough for me to get the hang of it due to my experience with Street Fighter 2. The digitized live actors seemed really realistic to me, and the fatalities were a very alluring gimmick that had me coming back out of curiosity. Once MK2 came out I was already on board as a fan!

I was a wee six years old when Mortal Kombat originally came out in the arcades. My older friends had it for their Sega Genesis and I played with them sometimes. My parents later bought MK2 for me on my eighth birthday, and subsequently they also got me MK3 and MK1.

While I don't have the games anymore, I still have the strategy guides I got with them. One of the MK2 guides came with temporary tattoos that I also never used and still have.

Unfortunately I don't remember things like the first characters or fatalities I ever saw. I was a bit too young to really remember, although I was very amazed that The Pit II had concrete on the bottom instead of the oft-rumored lava at the time.

Well I was born 4 years after MK debuted but luckily for me my cousin loved MK and he gave me his super nintendo and all of his games with it that had the first three on it and I can remember my brother showing me scorpions TOASTY fatality so I stuck with scorpion as my character I remember loving ED Boons COMEHERE!!!!! And I remember thinking the ninja masks on MK4 had ears on the top lol.And I always wanted action figures and I never found any until the Deception line.Man I still want the old figures though but any way thanks for giving me the chance to remember things I forgot :)EDIT:as I said below I had the Scorpion costume and played MK with my other cousin(that is my age) because he had a Sub Zero costume that was a long time ago.I also only played MK on arcade once at a pizza place and I played MK4 in a greyhound once for 3 hours straight(it was so cool to me because at the time I only thought they had 3 games)and I went crazy when I found out about Deadly Alliance I had to play it.now I have lost my snes MK but I still have MK2 and 3 but I'm missing a cable for the SNES but I have the three on PSP and I have MKA,the ultra horrible MKvsDC,and the legendary MK9 on the 360 and MKT,MK4 on PS1 but I'm thinking about collecting all of them minus MKSF.

I was 8 at the time and used to play it all the time at a friends house. I was quite good with Johnny Cage. The MKII came out and I was sold for good.

I was around 6 years old when MK1 came out. Much of what I remember was after the game hit consoles.. going over to a friends who owned a sega gen. and needing parental permission to turn on the blood code.

I had to nearly beg my parents to buy MK2 for my SNES... which they did and I was one happy camper. grin

I was 10, I was in the 3rd grade but I didn't actually hear about it until the 4th grade when a kid I knew was spewing everything he knew about it to me, I was blown away I had to see this game. I begged to go to the arcade, and finally my mom drove me, and there it was. The first thing I saw was someone knocking the AI opponent into the pit. I saw the blood and the heads and I was like omg. The funny thing was, I got into that game so much and just a couple months later, I remember going into a convenient store, to look at the new game magazines and there on the cover on Gamepro was MK2. I flipped out I didn't know MK2 was in the works. (no internet back then ;) )

I wasn't even born when MK debuted in arcade machines. In 1999, (I think) I was like 3 years old then (or 4?), I was visiting my grandparents' house with my parents, when I went into my three uncles' room, I saw MK Trilogy for the PS1.

My first experience with Mortal Kombat was when I was eleven back in 1993. I went over to my friend's house and he had Mortal Kombat on the SNES. He showed it to me and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I begged and begged my parents (well my mom anyway :p) to get me the game for Christmas, which they ended up doing. I spent the better part of the next year playing Mortal Kombat on the SNES and, when I got a chance, playing Mortal Kombat 2 on the arcade at the local bowling alley.

In fact me and my friends used to skip lunch at school and save our lunch money. Than after school we would use our lunch money on the MK 2 arcade haha. I got the habit of just making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and putting it in my backpack along with something to drink and that would be my lunch at school.

My dad got stationed in Florida from September 1995 til September 1996 when he retired. During that time Mortal Kombat 3 was all the rage. It was tearing up my arcade charts and during Christmas 1995 the game was getting released on the SNES and Genesis. So everytime I start to play Mortal Kombat 3 I instantly take of Florida and my life in general during that time frame (I believe I was in the eighth grade at the time). It was actually one of the happiest times of my life. I think that's why I have such a strong attachment towards Mortal Kombat 3. It's my favorite game out of the first three, even though I think Mortal Kombat 2 was over-all a better game than MK 3 was.

Sektor, Cyrax, and Smoke were my favorite characters in MK 3. I thought the cybernetic ninjas were the coolest things ever. I still am very found of the three today (even if Smoke never got automated now thinks to the reset with MK 9) but I strongly dislike the updated designs for Sektor and Cyrax. MK 3 Outfits for the win. ;)

For whatever reason I missed out on Mortal Kombat 4. I didn't get back into Mortal Kombat until Deadly Alliance came out, which I bought on its release date. I still played MK 1-3 a lot between 1997-2002 it's just that for whatever reason I never got MK 4 for my PS1 or N64. I think it was because I never played MK 4 on the arcades like I did with MK 2 and 3. After playing - and completely loving - Deadly Alliance I went back and bought MK 4 for PS1 and eventually ended up buying a Dreamcast just for Mortal Kombat Gold sometime in 2003/2004.

So yeah... that's pretty much it. I was 11 back in 1993 when I first played Mortal Kombat and I'm 29 now in 2011 still playing Mortal Kombat. I felt I was lucky to be there early on when Mortal Kombat became what it did. The Mortal Kombat craze of the early-90s was a one in a million chance deal. Younger players today might have discovered the games through the newer releases or from their older siblings but it's just not the same. Between the games, the two movies, the TV show, the MK live tour, the cartoon show, the comic books, and the action figures Mortal Kombat was a total cultural phenomenon from 1993-1998. I was happy to be a part of it.

My dad used to say I was "Mortal Kombat crazy" when I was a kid. The summer of 1995 was definitely the peak of Mortal Kombat though. MK 2 was absolutely dominating the SNES and Genesis (every kid in school that wasn't a complete ass had the game for either the SNES or Genesis :p), Mortal Kombat 3 was blowing everyone away on the arcades, and the build-up and wait until the August release of the Mortal Kombat movie was painful. I don't think I've ever in my life wanted to see a movie as much as the first MK film. My dad took me to see it opening weekend and we had a blast. He knew all about "GET OVER HERE!" and "FINISH HIM!" from me and my SNES copies of MK 1 and 2 so he at least at somewhat an idea of what was going on. He already knew about Scorpion and Sub-Zero because of me haha.

Not much else to say. Mortal Kombat has had its ups and downs and was pretty much a completely dead franchise by the end of the 90s/early 2000s. It seemed like the fad was over but thankfully Deadly Alliance came along and revitalized the franchise. The 'second' era of Mortal Kombat (Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon) wasn't the cultural phenomenon that 1993-1997 was but I was happy that, at least from a gaming perspective, Mortal Kombat was still alive and kicking.

I was 20 when MK 1 came out. I never really heard of it. I was more into Zelda and Final Fantasy and other RPGs and totally missed the boat on Street Fighter 2. I did like beat 'em ups like Final Fight though. Anyway, I heard everyone on TV freeking out about it and had to try it. Unfortunately all I had was an SNES and we all know how that turned out. Anyway, I still loved the game. When MK2 came out I preordered it from Radioshack of all places and played it for many months.

I wasn't alive. 1997 when I was born, and my first MK game, 1999, was MK4. About 3 years later all I did when I got home, hop on the N64 and play MK4 and Trilogy. Those were the great times.

All the action figures, Jade, Scorpion, Jax, Sonya, Sub-Zero. Haha. Great times.

I first played MK1 in florida at a arcade. They also had a UMK3 arcade, and I fucking loved it.

Then in 02, I got deadly alliance for my gamecube and loved it. Shortly after in 05, I got midway arcade treasures for psp and had a blast with mk2 and mk3. I also got the gamecube and xbox version that came out in 06. I'm so happy to have played every single MK game besides MK Gold. Never gotten my hands on that one.

I also had an old SNES that I got from my uncle for my birthday. The only game I bought was MK2 and It was so much fun. I kept using the 30 kredits cheat to beat Kintaro. He was so fucking hard! Still to this day cannot beat him within my first 5 tries.

I was about four when MK1 came out, but I didn't know about it until I was around eight when my older brother and I got a Genesis. Even then we never got MK1 we just rented it from the local grocery store, however we did have MK2 and UMK3. Then we had Trilogy when we got a PS1 a couple years later.
