Hsu Hao's original name was supposed to be Khan

He was supposed to be a mongolian warrior

The name caused way too much confusion and the MK team decided not to call him Khan to avoid any confusion with the story line

But I would prefer that Hsu Hao was a mongolian warrior. I think that is storyline as Red Dragon isn't so good.

Yeah, I know what you mean. He was one of those "one-time only" type characters. And rayrokka, I remember sometime ago you were saying that you were taking a look at the MK6 storyline and you didn't see Hsu Hao in it anywhere, am I right? So do you think that means that Jax's ending in MKDA actually occured?

I would have liked to seen Hsu Hao be his own kind of warrior with a different storyline and a different look but I guess it is a bit too late for that.

And it's Shao Kahn, not Khan.

Yes, they wouldn't want another Reiko incident. Shao Kahn and Hsu Hao are 2 different people, like Reiko and Shao Kahn.

I was surfing the net one time and I found an MK plot FAQ. Here's what it said about the Hsu Hao/Shao Kahn connection:

"Originally Hsu Hao's name was going to be Kublai Khan. In his first released screenshots, his name was listed as Khan in his health bar. This lead people to believe that he was actually Shao Kahn, despite the slightly different spelling of the last name. Even when his name became Hsu Hao, people still believed he was Shao Kahn because removing H and u makes his name "s Hao". But as you can plainly see from his story, there
is no conceivable way Hsu Hao and Shao Kahn could be the same person. There are so many reasons as why they are not the same that I don't even
know where to start."

So there you have it. You can see the early sketchs of Hsu Hao (after unlocking them from the krypt)and see the name Kublai Khan. But this is a good plot FAQ that I found.

I know exactly where you got that from. You got that from Gavok's MK thing. Yeah, that one is the most reliable in my opinion. You can also find it at ]0MBAT's site.

Kubla(i) Khan was also a Mongolian ruler iirc.

By the way I thought Shao Kahn was also spelled differently ( after )?
