<img src=newspaper.gif border=0> MK: Deadly Alliance wins Best Brawl at G-Phoria awards
I can't help but think that whoever goes online first and does it well(with little lag and such) will get a big boost.
Say MK6 and MK Kollection go online, with all systems, in a year or so. Now say Tekken doesn't go online for another 3 years.
Like I said, the online thing could change everything.

Even without online though Tekken's community is HUGE. It would make no difference at all if it never even went online. MK NEEDS to go online though for competition. It still wouldn't help the tournament scene any though. MK just isn't the worldwide fighter the other games are. Not to mention even with online, it's not as good as going to an arcade, traveling to meet new people, and it's going to have lag that ruins matches. Not many people are willing to travel either. MK is in a league of it's own literally.

Sakura Wrote: Ok so when this part of the press says MKDA is the best fighting game it matters and it ends the debates and proves that MKDA is really the best. But when other people in the press say MK is not as good and that games like VF4 are tops it's ignored and they are hated. Yeah, ok. |
Actually it wasn't the press or anything that voted for these games; the press just picked the best ones for the catagories....we the gamers voted for the games that won at G-Phoria. The only thing is; they where only taking votes at EBgames; not any other store.
So it was US the fans who voted for Mortal Kombat as the best fighting game not the press just to clear things up. Guess thats a good slap in the face to all who say Tekken and VF are better games huh _NEO_?.
Also those who are bickering about which game will be better when it goes online and MK going to suck cuase it will have lag well Capcom vs SNK 2:EO is online for Xbox and people are saying that it is the best fighting game right now for Xbox just because it's online. Even though it's like 2 or 3 year old game; online play just revived it. There is is practacly no in the game and the little bit that is; it doesn't even affect it at all from what i've heard. Me and a lot of other fighting game fans can only expext better results when DOA:Online is released and when MK6 is released in a year and a half. The only thing that can probably screw up online play for people are those using dial-up still; but that won't affect Xbox users only those PS2 and NGC users. I'm not trying to start another console war but if online play gets screwed up for those systems it will be Sony and Nintendo's fault not Midways. I'm sure Boon and company will try and do there best with the technology for those systems with what ever time they have to work with.

OMG...........u must be joking. tekken 4 is WAY better. i mean not only is the game solid but look how much comp there is for it especially when compared to MKDA. it wouldnt matter if MKDA was better in every way to T4(which it isnt), the fact that T4 has tournaments where people actually show and it has a community of people who r willing to travel for comp/tourneys makes it way better then MKDA. what good is a great fighting game if there is no comp for it. i mean u hear this on the forums all the time here "wait till MK6.....then we can finially play each other and see who is the best" but u dont see tekken players say "wait till T5 so we can all play". u know y u dont see that, cuz tekken has MAD comp now and MKDA has none. i stopped playing MKDA cuz no matter how good i was it didnt matter cuz no one but me was willing to go to tourneys. once i saw that MKDA would never have the comp that other fighters do i went back to T4, and just so u all know, in the actual high level tourney scene MKDA is laughed at and not respected as a fighter. maybe MK6 will do ok but i believe that even with online that u will still have the same lag problems as mame. i believe that without an arcade presence of MK6 or a community/fan base of people who r willing to leave their homes and travel for comp that MK6 will be like MKDA is now.............dead. |
Neo, I don't have a problem with your opinion that Tekken is way better than MK. In fact, I too had a hard time finding competition for MK games to the point where I had to travel to Philly for a tournment. So you do have valid points.
However, for you to come on an MK fan site and state that MK6 will be dead like MK:DA is foul. It's so dead that you waste your precious time contributing to this MK community?
I'm not gonna bash Tekken just because I think it's boring but I'm certainly not going to register to a Tekken site just to tell everyone that their game suck.

I pretty much agree that MK owns Tekken in every way. Doesn't have the depth but that has never bothered me. Well not until recently anyway when I realized I've maxed the game out. Only gripe is competition so hopefully no one took what I said earlier the wrong way.
LOL NE0 come on, high level Tekken player? MDJ and them are high level Tekken players. You're nowhere near...

I used to always play Tekken and I am still very good at it, but the game is just boring, yes, BORING. There is no depth in the story like in MK, the characters (Some) look very square-like, like, some body parts for example (head, hands), I hate the way its game play is, is not as fast and free as Mks. Tekken is a good game, I admit that, but seriously, compared to MK I think its nothing.
Now with all the new stuff MKDA has brought and given, Tekken is just low. BTW, MKDA is not dead, I play it (like someone said) everyday I can, for hours, and like me, there are many. The game is just so full of stuff to do that its impossible to get bored. I love the styles ideas, its just something new and very original, and best of all, U end the fights killing the other character! Not just with a stupid K.O. or a normal thing like characters staying flat on the floor. Im glad Mk won, it deserved it.

Yo, why did you edit from "one of the top players in the US" to this east coast crap? High level is people that actually win tournaments, get talked about when big tournaments come up, are actually ranked high, etc. I've been reading TZ for a couple years now and have never seen any of those luxuries for you. But I get the general sense you're a mid level player. Which in Tekken isn't bad at all. Though I suck and probably always will so don't think I'm putting you down. Blah I'm not arguing. I just always reserve "high level" with the best in the world. Can you honestly say you are in that category?

when T4 first came out i was top 5 in almost every tourney but then i stopped for a while but then got serious and me and JOP trained for EC4 last year. at ec4(T4 worlds oct 2002) i placed 10th out of 200 people. what i am saying is that when i played i was top.

like i said, in early 01 when T4 first came out i was top 5 in almost every tourney and then i stopped till EC4 where i placed high and now that i am playing again at the last major tourney i placed top 5 and took JOP(who is a high level player) to last round, last match, last hit. now how could a mid level played do that.

I feel sorry for you... everything is about tourny's and placing high. Where's the fun...I have never seen you mention "I have fun playing this game" It's all...I'm the best in this blah blah. Video games are about having fun shesh...

If it's last round last hit, luck might have something to do with the last hit. But dude I seriously don't care. But there's so many territories out there for Tekken. Being top 5 east coast means you're high level that territory. But when you mix all territories in the world together, you're mid tier lol. Are you playing at EVO? I'd love to see where you come out in the tournament there. KOREANS MUST GO DOWN! Is MDJ and them competing?
quan_chilli Wrote: But when you mix all territories in the world together, you're mid tier lol. |
maybe now because i just started playing again and i have 10 months of rust but when i played at ec4 i actually beat jrlime from korea(he came with MDJ) jin vs jin 4-3 in a money match so i was pretty high level back then. i lost to maddog-jin and bronson in the tourney and they ended up placing 1st and 3rd and my match with bronson was REAL close. i am not going to evo cuz i'm not ready. i mean 10 months of rust is a lot and i know that i am not ready to play at evo. RIGHT NOW in the world maybe u r right and i am not high level but right now even with the rust i am still good enough to get top 10 in any US major tourney and after some hardcore training hopefuly a top 3 placer.

that is fun. playing hard and going to tourneys and playing against other top players. playing games simply to play them isnt fun for me which is y i have only played arcade fighters.

I agree. If you just play for fun, than more power to you. But I spend a lot of time working on my MK skills. Why? Because I want to have a reputation of being a good MK player like MKL. Playing against him is something I will do when MK6 comes out and some tourneys happen (hopefully more than two). That will be fun to do because we both play hard. He's the champ so heh, like anyone, I'd like to see if I compare. Basically it's like anything in life. You work at something and make it your life for the benefits that come with your hard work and also to feel good about yourself. Its sort of like basketball. You got real players and you got casual players. Casual players go up and play ball at the YMCA three times a week for pick up games to have fun. Real players devote their life to the game for the fortune of the NBA and to play against the best players in the world to have the reputation of being one of the best if not the best. Same applies to MK and everything else in life. One isn't better than the other though. Hey sometimes I wish I had more of a life and just played MK casually just to have fun. But in the end I'm glad I've spent my life playing it because of the rewards I've gotten and the reputation I have here. That's why I play it and will be the only reason until I'm dead (cheesy).
After talking with MKL for a couple hours this morning, I see why he says what he says. He's very misunderstood. But he is the best there is and that's why he plays. He's not talking crap about MKDA while discussing T4 in this thread. By "dead" he means there's no more competition because there isn't. Unless there's some MK tournments we're not aware of.

Ok, this thread's gotten too far off track. This is about celebrating MK: DA's award, not about Tekken is better or Tekken is worse and what not about it. So let's try to get things back on track here, or make a Tekken post in the General Discussion forum. Thank you.
